- This was a pure religious experience at points. I mean good god (lol) I felt like I was peeking behind the curtain of reality at points. Had some tears, some laughs, and a lot of grooving... come hang out and enjoy our Phish Fry of the week courtesy of our supporter Justin

Hey man, we appreciate you. You're the best Phish reactions out there. It's not just that you appreciate the music but you connect with it in the way real fans do and quickly. You're in deep the quickest I've ever seen and it's a lot of fun to be on this ride with you. I'm sorry about the loss you've had in your life. I hope you get to see the band live. At least you can find the things that give you joy.
That’s very kind of you to say my friend thank you. I connected instantly from the very first video. Once chalkdust torture started going… I was done for. I’m in for life now lol. Thank you for having me!
Phish in the late 90's was untouchable. They still had all the gags and were pushing the boundaries of sight and sound further than anyone else. It truly was a magical time to see this all unfold each night.
This is becoming more fascinating every week. Its like watching myself 28 years ago trying to wrap my mind around this phenomenon. Keep digging bro. There is so so so so so many layers. Love it.
I appreciate that bro thank you! I’m gonna keep digging. I’m hooked 🪝 🐠
Love this Ghost. Of all the Phish reactions, you're truly doing it the best! You're doing the all timer jams and fully appreciating the bits that make them so highly regarded by fans which is awesome, so thank you!
Next one should be a Reba (either St. Louis ‘93 or 10/31/94) or Divided Sky (Chicago ‘94 or 10/31/94)
This community is here for you dude. Sorry for your loss. Much love
Thanks man. It’s been a lot of loss. But, it does give me a unique perspective on how precious life is.
Mikes slapping that bass like it owes him money
REBA 10/31/94! YOU WILL LOVE
Being from California, that show was my first ever "home game" and predictably changed and charted the trajectory of my musical horizons.
Your genuine reactions and emotions with this music are very cool.
Hey thanks bro I appreciate that. I try my best. But when the music is this great it makes my job pretty easy. Plenty to love and to talk about lol
Week 6 of saying listen to Fluffhead
The Tweezer from this show is pure and utter filth as well. Even more space and funk. I'll be waiting for the video 😉. Great reaction as always!
I can’t wait until your introduced to CK5. He truly is an amazing artist. The lights add so much to the shows for me.
So sorry for your loss man. Don't understand people who are telling you to be grateful or judge you for feeling sad about losing friends.
Phish makes me cry often, and gets me through the ebb and flow of life. Im glad you discovered this band, and that this jam spoke to you. Keep your head up! Love you pham!
Isn't it amazing how they can do deep funk into spiritual blissful awakening, back into funk and screaming rock n roll? These jams have brought so many of us to those spiritual places peering beyond the vail just like you talked about, and that's what keeps me coming back, and it warms my heart seeing this music touch you so deeply, like it's touched many of us. Truly one of my favorite jams of all time! You're finding your way into the deep end of Phish, and a very different side of the band than the proggy stuff you've listened to so far. You're going to love 8/17/97 Bathtub Gin!!!!!
You hit on why 97 Phish is my favorite. The space. They really set the stage with their patience and it draws you in deeper and deeper. Then when Trey gets locked in it's all our glory bliss from another dimension.
Also the section after the peak or climax where there is just an afterglow of bliss... That is called the strut.
Love that you just listened to your first 97 era song, you are on the most epic journey. Ghost is such a good barometer of the sound of any Phish era, more than other songs IMO It was real early in the less-composed batch that became core jam vehicles. Theme from the Bottom, Twist and Piper. 97 is a whole thing unto itself, 12/7/97 is my favorite show from that time period. Also, Phish makes me cry all the time, and like, most of the fans will tell you the same thing.
That peak from 9-14 minutes of this Ghost is my safe place. No matter how many times i hear that jam it never loses its appeal. Totally know what you mean about getting completely lost in it
@@Throwawayjim119 yeah that was absolutely entrancing….. I loved every second of it. Brought my ass to tears 😭 😂
This is a gym peaking cardio jam at least 2/3x/month
Thank you ❤ this is astounding ❤
I'd recommend a few more from 1997.... MAZE(12.11.97) & Bathtub Gin(8.17.97) lots more actually. Fall tour was out of this world
plus 1 for Went Gin
WOW! That was amazing! Thanks Justin for bringing this awesome song to us! And thanks L33 for sharing the religious experience! ☮❤🎶
Go all the way, lets see a Fukuoka Twist>jam reaction. Best set of improv they ever played. Or Went Gin for just the most spiritually uplifting jam they've ever played. Makes me feel like I'm flying through clouds of joy. Phish heals.
All of these Live Phish releases are great, worth a listen to each some of their best stuff. The Worcester 98 show was the one I heard after years of listening and actually "got it" and became completely obsessed.
Really cool to see someone discover the very best of phish and completely “get it”. You really can’t go wrong with 94-00. 11/22/97 Halley’s Comet is another top one from this tour. Think there’s video of it. Also, 12/30/15 bathtub gin has a great fan-shot video (amazing jam), so it would not be blocked
You have phriends here now. Much love man. Happy to make these a regular part of my weekend watching/listening.
I think our guy is ready for Reba. I maintain that bittersweet motel Maze is a must.
Yes! That Maze rips and the footage is pristine.
93 St Louis
This was an awesome piece of music .. a trip Enjoyed it
Looking forward to this one. This Ghost is pure fire!
I really enjoyed the almost 70's groovy mood in the beginning, transitioning to more prog than back again. Thanks Justin for the great pick. Love the reaction, Lee. We've got your back! Blessings all.
They are so good at navigating so many genres at a time in just one jam. Thank you for watching as always Shirley
“Like a religious experience.” He’s starting to truly get it…
This one was pure spiritual awakening at points.

Welcome! Brother.
People who have never sat down and really listened cannot possibly understand this, and it would sound crazy to most, but it's true. It's almost meditative. I'm sure lots of my family thought I was crazy seeing as many shows as I have of the same band.
He def gets it
That was such a ride, Justin! Thank you so much!
I’m glad you enjoyed too, snoops. I’m loving this ride so much
I think of all the bands that are new to me, Phish are tops! I give a 'Yay' when I see them on the playlist, Lee!
Teared up during the jam and while you were talking about Soloman. This was a deep one. Glad to be here jamming with you!
He would have loved these guys. I wish he was here to listen and jam with me.
THANK YOU so much for doing this. It has been my only request of anyone that reacts to Phish.
Back in the fall of 2013 during my freshman year of college I had a few people I had met that were very into Phish. While I had known of them and listened to a few studio songs, I was encouraged to give a live jam a listen. This was the first that I chose while studying one night. At about the 12 minute mark I had a very similar reaction, just left absolutely speechless and started to tear up. It was the most beautiful music I had ever heard. I spent the next few hours diving into as much as I could. I’ve always wondered if someone would react the same way. Needless to say they have become my favorite band and I HUGE part of my life like many others. Welcome again to the world of Phish. Interpret all their music your own way, I’ve always felt that’s what they’ve wanted when playing in stage. It’s amazing to see everyone’s emotions come out differently. We welcome you to a show as soon as you can make it, you’ll have a blast. Thanks again man.
Hey man I’m glad I could show you its power is universal. When the piano from page comes in at that point it’s like some distant melody that you remember from some past life in some other place.. I’m honestly kinda tearing up just typing this out geez lol it’s just so powerful man. I can’t even find the words. It reaches into your soul and just doesn’t let go! And then of course they ruin the mood and just make you happy again like always . Bummer. 😂😂 just kidding
Loving your journey! I will recommend Maze from 12/11/97, which is available on UA-cam.
This is a top 5 jam for me….just oozes with white boy funk.
"cow funk", in Trey's words
Glad i was there to witness this pure bliss. Was amazing night of music. You should check out divided sky!
So this is a big step, moving out of heavily composed, prog type shit of the early 90s into the open ended funk of the late 90s. Eager to see your reaction, because you’ve stated the prog type stuff is your sweet spot. I have a feeling you’ll find phish hits more than one sweet spot.
Yep, I recommended this ghost but then I retracted when I realized how much he loves the prog shred!! 1990-1995 is still the best era of Phish! With 97 through island tour a close second!
@@FlowerSupply420 late 90s were da 💩 Summer '98 for me.
@@rubbertoe2001 yeah this is a new sweet spot for sure… I love it haha
Funkier than James brown on a bad night

11/22/97 Halley’s is to me the best piece of music I’ve ever heard !
Phish is like a fine wine… they only get better with age. Don’t buy into the “Elitist” that’ll have you believe which ever Phish.0 they think is best. They have ALWAYS ROCKED and ALWAYS WILL…. Get your ass to a show asap!!!
This is such a fantastic Ghost. Glad you are getting a taste of their more groove based jams. Reba, Divided Sky, Fluffhead are stil must hears for your prog ear.

Ok just finished the react. I can totally relate to your loss. And Phish is so cathartic in the most surprising ways. I have listened to countless hours of Phish, and there are still times I can be moved to tears.
Ghost is one of my favorite grooves in the catalog, and its celebration of being in a dark uncertain place is just really such a beautiful juxtaposition.
Well done, and I really can't wait to see the next one. I am fully invested in this journey with you and cheers mate.
You aren't totally alone, we are all here with you in this strange design.
I appreciate the kind words, my friend. It’s a lot to deal with but I try to just let it be. But it’s easier said than done. I miss everyone I’ve lost so much it hurts. But, I continue on in their memory and try to keep their memory alive the best way I can. I love how cathartic (as you put it) this jam is. It’s absolutely fantastic. Wasn’t expecting it in the slightest but it hit me hard lol. I’m glad to be apart of this family.
@@L33ReactsSpeaking of strange design... that song might be poignant to listen to- on the channel or off. One of my favorite little ballads from them. Might speak to you after this emotional reaction. Love ya man!
@@L33Reacts Wait until you hear Dirt. Its gonna wreck you, in the best way possible. Do it on your own time. 7/20/98, 12/29/97, 12/2/97 some good options.
47 years old, was on tour for lts of years and I love your new energy and reactions. what its all about. tgipfs. thank god its phish fry saturday
It went from, "It's like a religious experience" to, "It's almost like a seance"😅😂🎉
😂😂😂 I didn’t even notice that. Very true. It flipped quick 😂
Someone get this boi on a "Split Open and Melt"! 12.31.99 is killer. Thejourney has just begun my friend. Theres so many mind blowing jams. From island tour cavern to boise 99 ac/dc bag youll be finding new ones for years!.
+1
Remember the sound of the squeaky door opening in the middle of the jam?
Tinley park LP release SOAM
I was there. The Crosseyed and Painless that night, or Rock and Roll might be the high points.
Sorry about your losses. You made me cry remembering losing my best friend 17 years ago on my 26th birthday. This show was the first Phish cd I bought when I was first getting into them and we spent a lot of nights listening to it. I highly recommend the Tweezer from this show.
After my friend passed I met one of his friends from college who was also into Phish and became my show going buddy. 10 years later I met some of my new best friends through that friend and this band. I felt lost for several years back then until I felt like I’d finally found my people through Phish. Hope you can make it to a show one day to experience the magic.
A good tune. Very cohesive, leading one another. Very nice. Unpredictable.
Thank you, Justin M and Lee.
You said it yourself. A religious experience. Truly amazing. Was honered to see over 30 shows in the mid/late 1990’s
I’m here for the phish reviews,I stay for L33’s gorgeous hair!!!
😂😂😂😂 thank you! My girl said she’s jealous of my hair. I’ve never dyed it, so it’s healthy lol
I was at this show.. .it was dope af!
You have some of the best reactions on youtube. Be proud. ❤
This feeling you felt is why we keep going over and over again…GET THIS MAN TO A SHOW!
I love watching you “get it” in real time man. There is no band like Phish and this show is a great example of how they can sound completely different, but still uniquely themselves. One of my fav shows, including the tweezer to kick it off.
Do what you can to make it to a show and I think it will change you. It’s the best scene. Keep doing what you are doing, us phans love it !
I’m glad to hear you enjoy it, my friend. This was beyond words and reactions. Just pure audio ecstasy at points. They went places here I’ve never been with music and I’ve listened to A LOT… it’s crazy!
So sorry for the loss you have encountered. That is so hard. Think we are all proud you are finding joy in life and with us on Saturdays.
This is so much fun. It is bananas to try to describe how deeply enjoyable this is. The way that this period felt in the arena was just so enveloping - it just washed all over you so intensely. I cannot wait for video and I hope you see a show (they play Merriweather) - it really is a spiritual experience and they have only grown through the years.
Moved onto the cow funk way too quickly but a request is a request I guess. Was hoping for more foundation laid before the 1997 jam evaluation. Definitely please go back to 94/95 again because the work is not finished there! Love these vids!
I elect 1993. Before the blow up
@@jayredz7807anything 92-95. All the pillar songs should be run through from that era first.
Your reaction is exactly why people travel across the world to see them, the music elicits a wave of emotions that usually mirror the tone and style of what is being played, its the closest to thing to a spiritual experience you can have...keep on ripping!
Reba 12/31/95 video or album of that show on UA-cam. Fucking amazing. Right up your ally
And you are just getting started.. I like early 90's Phish but the new stuff is ridiculous too!!! Enjoy
Absolutely loved this musical magic it took me away

He’s taking the same path I took almost. Break in with a live one and straight to fall 97. This is fun to watch.
So much to hear and such little time.. but that’s ok at least I get to savor the journey one track at a time.
Hey I’m glad you enjoy it @ctbojar thank you for joining me
@@L33Reactsretreat back to ‘92-‘95! Many more mind blowing legacy pillars of the band’s catalog to discover before delving further to the second half of that decade.
Their funk journey really began when they covered the Talking Heads album Remain In Light for their ‘97 Halloween show. Story of the Ghost is the first album to come out with this change in sound and it’s pretty dramatic from their previous album Billy Breathes. I got so stoned when ghost came out and listened over and over with a friend of mine. Moma Dance is a killer groove track, and Meat is cool. Guyute too.
Halloween 96*. Then they really went balls deep in the funk on Europe Winter and Summer Tours.
When you're at a show, and the band is at a major crescendo and you realize you're standing on your toes! Nothing like it.
If you want a tear jerker song, and yes you will cry, listen to Miss You. From the time i graduated high school until i was about 30, i lost around 1 friend a year for various reasons. The toughest was my dear friend Jimmy. I got him into Phish in 91? We saw our first show at Arrowhead Ranch in NY. He went on to see over 300, maybe close to 600 shows. He passed New Years days after the Bakers Dozen shows. Every time i hear Miss You... I just cant.
Wait until he hears Fukuoka...
plus 1 here. Recommended this and Went Gin, scrolled comments and two other folks already beat me to it. Some of the best Phish ever.
Such a great listener man! Glad ur lovin phish
Thanks bro! Yeah I’m surely loving them. How could you not?? 😀😀😀
Page totally takes over this jam about 10 minutes in. Glorious
It’s absolutely breathtaking. Hauntingly simple melody that calls out to your past self that slowly evolves into something past normal music lol can’t wait to hear more 😂🤯
One of my favorite jams.
Wait til you see them live with the lights, crowd energy. Nothing better than a Phish show!
...like a Swiss watchmaker!!!
Phish is very spiritual. I've been seeing them since 94. I had a recent Phish spiritual experience at their fest this summer. Saturday night set 2.
The beauty of '97 is that it had both ambient space funk but it still also raged as well.
Here is a great example:

Limestone '97 Bathtub 🛁 Gin 🍾
Honestly, overrated
@@whitmatthews6740 the last 5 minutes of that peak exist in a place they never went again. It may not be your favorite, but i don’t think it’s fair to call it overrated. Touches my heart in a way not many do
@@Throwawayjim119 I like it, but in terms of technicality it's not a great representation of what Phish can really do in an improvisational jam. There are much better Bathtubs for that; 7/29/98 and 7/20/98 are 2 of my favorites. Certainly still worth a listen but when we only get one Phish reaction a week I'm trying to make them count 😂
yes
@@whitmatthews6740 I was at the one at Riverport Mo. In 98. My fav out of the ones I've seen live. But the 97 Limestone version is crisp and the video is on UA-cam. So,....
Sorry for your losses. You're not alone man.
97-98 is funky and weird, fantastic shows all throughout
Also sorry for your losses man, shits never easy
It's about time you got that funk.
12/30/97 AC/DC Bag may be one of the most massive globally encompassing peaks ever done.
Since you're adept at picking up on the individual instruments, I think you'd really enjoy Big Cypress (12/30 & 31/99). Fishman was so incredible during those shows, and his cohesiveness with Trey and the other members was insane. He was mimicking Trey's guitar lines on drums so much throughout those shows. Someone else suggested Split Open & Melt, that's a great suggestion. It's so solid and tight through multiple transitions it sounds like the jam could have been composed. Antelope, Runaway Jim, Tube, Down With Disease, Crosseyed & Painless, just to name a few others from that show that were standouts... but really you can't go wrong w/ any Big Cypress tracks.
Edit: Trey said in an interview sometime in the mid 2000s that they consider this the peak of their career. Of course, they got back together after than and have played another 15 years so far so who knows if this is still his stance but a lot of fans would agree.
Hey thanks man I appreciate that. I’m down for whatever from these guys…. They’ve already earned my trust that it will be kicksss every time lol thank you for the suggestions
@@L33Reactsabsolutely, I love watching people getting introduced to Phish but it's much better when they understand what they're hearing, that's why I really enjoy your vids
How are you gonna mention Cypress and not mention Sand>Quadrophonic Toppling?
@@tombadil64you're right, that transition out of sand is some of the most beautiful and unique music I've heard them play. Can't believe I forgot that one
@@whitmatthews6740 yessss, probably my favorite jam/s of all time. Such a silly little riff, but it makes me feel all kinds of grateful to be alive
The spirit moves me to listen.
Just listened to "The Moma Dance" from The Gorge '98 release. Definitely queue that one up, it's a banger!
Forget the Tahoe Tweezer. It's kid stuff. Listen to the studio tracks "Reba" and "Run Like an Antelope" from their second album, Lawn Boy. Exceptional studio work from a band that has some struggles in that setting.
Musician’s music. All the emotions
Shout out Justin and L33 for a fantastic choice.
It's like a religious experience in so many ways. As good as the "sermon" is, the community and phellowship are just as important. It fills your cup in all ways. Many of us have semi-structured our lives around seeing them live for those moments when IT comes out.
Let us know when you're going to a show, you'll have 30k new friends.
If you want to do something fun, pick one of these songs to go back to each time you move to a new year. Tweezer is a good one, ghost is too.
“Carini” 10/18/13 ua-cam.com/video/hR3lVxqgaMA/v-deo.htmlsi=g6Nz4a4DhV5veNjt
It shows their harder side in the composed section, and the jam elevates to a “composing new song on the spot” level they hit sometimes.
I second this. One of my favorites. ⭕️
Treys favorite ghost
Divided Sky 10-31-94
Magnaball Tweezer>Caspian
Fall 97 was the Phish Destroys America tour. It was an epic run.
Providence Bowie on deck. You'll be glad you did.
Will just keep suggesting the Tweezer > Prince Caspian from 8/22/15 on their official channel. You gotta open it up and watch some video dude! Welcome to the rest of your life, you're stuck with us. 😂
Haha I will eventually. I’m honestly enjoying the whole audio only trip…. It really makes you focus on the wizardry that is occurring lol
Fishman was an absolute beast in '97
Its awesome that you are checking out other years and eras! Love A live one but their catalog is so vast it would be far too easy to spend years just listening to 93-95. Another one for your list: Fluffhead from 12/31/11, mostly since there is a really good pro-shot video on UA-cam of it
PLEASE GO SEE THEM LIVE!!! Truly life changing.
Riverport Gin
on the 7/15/98 Portland, OR live phish release, extra song at the end. One of the most all encompassing jams ever done.
This version has been a religious experience for ages but this time, after the 94 raving you have followed, seemed to me a fair explorations of their outskirts, that will find a magic place in Florida Millenium
Protein give me some damn reba lol

You could make a whole series reviewing 1997 phish songs. And you should. With youre drum / percussion background. You’ll love the “cow funk” era that is 1997 phish
Then...Nassau Roses are free into cool madness...
Tahoe Tweezer is phenomenal… but you should spend some more time in 95-99 for a while
