Frostpunk is a semi-steampunk world set in the early 19th century after a cataclysmic event known as “the Great Freeze” destroyed the Earth. This is an extremely harsh world with extremely unforgiving circumstances. When I first played this game early last year it wasn't the brutal, albeit extremely fun city building mechanics that hooked me. No, it was the world. What happened to Earth? What caused all of this? What is this world truly about? So many questions and so few answers, until now. In this series, I aim to break down the first Frostpunk bit by bit in order to gain a better understanding of the world and lore of this incredible game.

What I love about the game, is that, because the story is as vague as it is, there's a lot of fanfic potential. I am starting a story right now, exploring the pov of a single guy who's in charge of one of the cities. He doesn't know everything, he doesn't tell anyone else's story. He's just telling the world what happened how he experienced it.
(Slight spoiler) Personally I believe the sun dimmed, because of the flavor text found in the observatory.
Isn't there mention of a bioweapon called the Saffron Cloud
@@ScuffedWardenNever heard of that, I believe the Sun dimmed.
@@declanjones8888 you find this out from a relic, which you can only get in endless mode
I thought the sun dimmed are due to the meteor shower caused valcano activities with ashed all in the cloud.
@@declanjones8888 One of the relics from the Endless mode of the game is a description of the Saffron Cloud. It is basically some top secret British technology piece which tells something about sulfuric aerosols (that may actually cause a global cooling). It is unclear, but the community accepted version is that this is a British superweapon (analogue of the Atomic bomb) that somehow got accidentally triggered and may have started the Great Frost, but also may have triggered after the Frost already begun (perhaps causing the Storm that hits New London, who knows?).
Ah yes the game where I try to be the most sound and moral person around but get critiqued by my populus for making them eat soup...
That soundtrack tho is immaculate
Are you really playing Frostpunk if you aren't feeding your citizens the remains of the dead in soup before sending their children to work 10 hour shifts in the coal mines?
@@justsomecanadiandudewhat about feeding a child sawdust meals, force her to work in the coal mine for 24h before telling her to work another 14h before having her leg and arm crushed by an automaton?
@@henrycooper3431 nono, automatons take away the people's work, which we do NOT want
@@justsomecanadiandude They love to work so much that they're willing to work to their deaths--literally.
I have expierienced such cold only once before: Camping in Canadian Winter.
Shayne, please keep talking
This game, is so good. The music, the atmosphere, the grim dark reality and hard decisions, plus great systems, that are both simultaneously complicated and easy to use. Resource, time management, moral and government. This game is amazing. The world the developers made, is something I want to learn about so badly, and to experience so much more with the sequel later this year. I am very excited to see what you have found, and can't wait for the next video. Can't wait to see how all the relics of the past that you can find in freeplay will come into play.
thank you Shayne no enough people talk about Frostpunk lore.
Can't wait till we can dig into the frostpunk 2 lore
Imagine the opposite of Frostpunk. Hellpunk lol. The world just kept getting hotter... sounds like us.
That is literally Arizona during the summer 😂
It'd be nice to see more of these
last thing i expected, but welcomed
Can't wait for more !
Hyped af ngl , cant wait
Look all I'm going to say is...I was justified using prison slave labour to make my generator. We even had nine days to spare when we were done.
Apparently having Labor Speech for hope and 9 people die is Crossing the line, but Labor Speech for hope and having no one die isn't. It kind of bugs me because otherwise i was pretty much the manager of the best workplace anyone could hope for, hearty and consistent food, All of my generator construction zones were either safe or unhealthy (literally 1 under safe), Prosthetics for people that were amputated (Rare as that was), a Labour Union that i would listen to the demands of 90% of the time, plenty of stockpiled food and coal for the upcoming winter, braziers for everyone's house and having 9 people die apparently makes me a massive piece of shit who deserves to be cast into the generator i made.
@@ScuffedWardenDevs in general are bit of soy cucks, but what can you do
Can't wait for the next Ready or Not video!
It’s been almost two weeks, where’s the next RON VIDEO
Ooo Frostpunk
Played the flats for hours and built a psychotically large city. I hope they give us a sequel focused on the main cities.
Wish granted.
@@jonsimpson6240 yeah I left this comment then saw the news. It’s going to be awesome
@@jordanlewis4983 everything looks promising.
I’m kinda sad that the feeling of coziness is gone in frost punk 2, but I like it
@@El_Negro2003 that's a pretty funny thing to say about this franchise.
I get what you mean, but it's a logical progression instead of just cookie cutter sequel, which is nice. Hopefully they might do some more dlc for the first game to expand on the early setting still.
you should make a video on disco elysium
More of this
Of course its Britain
Grand Solar Minimum 2020-2053
Just starting to replay Frostpunk again, what a coincidence 😅. Looking forward to your next video.
Not really important, but right before the Great Frost comes, while England and presumably other countries are setting up the Generators. During the Last Autumn DLC there are several mentions of a "Balken War" going on.
Balkans be Balkans.
@@Butter_Warrior99 This is true.
So it was Belkan witchcraft ...
I knew it
Through one of those weird youtube rabbit holes I have ended up here.
I am now quite interested in knowing more about frostpunk as, when I am playing, the cities survival is slightly more important than asking why we are here.
Shayne please shut up and upload the next RoN video! Jk...but seriously though
