My man you are a lifesaver! I plasti dipped my wheels and the coating was too thin so it was a pain to takeoff! I was on my way to a detailing shop and they ask for $150 to take them off and then I found out about your video. I sprayed rubbing alcohol on my wheels the night before and I woke up the next day took them all off in one hour! THANSK DUDE!

Thanks for this video. I've been debating plasti-dipping the rim's on my 4runner. Was worried about removal.. this changed my mind. Going to pick up my brake pads right now, gonna snag a couple bottles of plastidip, while I'm there! Thanks man!🤘😎

Faster way, spray oven cleaner on it, let sit for a minute or two, it will start to bubble up. Next blast it with pressure washer and it all comes off in seconds. Not all oven cleaner is created equal, that natural lemon or orange crap won't work. I used Walmart house brand oven cleaner, like 2.78 a can which was enough for four wheels. This will also remove non clear coated rattle can paint jobs, like all those rims that people flat black rattle can painted before Plasti Dip became popular. It will not permanently damage factory clear coat but may make it soft for a while so do not use anything hard to scrape off paint, if there are any stubborn spots, use a nylon bristle brush. If you don't have a pressure washer, go use one of those pay and spray car washes.

It's easy to remove because who ever applied it did it correctly with enough thickness, not because of the rubbing alcohol. Rubbing alcohol also isn't the "main ingredient" that plastidip uses, it's naphtha.

If it's too thin to get to peel, why not clean the thin layer spotless so you can apply more coats to stick properly? Then try a heat gun or propane torch (keep it moving), to get it to start peeling.

You were lucky the rubber coat was thick enough. I used WD-40 and lots of elbow grease... in my case the rubber paint dried over the summer and the rubber layer got too thin to peel it off. WD-40 helped dissolve the rubber + WD-40 soaked sponge & old rags helped remove it. After WD-40 it is necessary to use water with dish soap and clean rags to remove the greasy residue & have the rims perfectly clean. Final step is to apply paint wax & buff it off to protect the surface and reduce the amount of brake dust sticking to the surface.
