This is a tricky one, and not really in the key of A major due to the G major chord. You could think of this as the key of A mixolydian which is the same notes as a D major scale. But, when you get to the E major chord (V of A major) in the 4th phrase of the chord pattern then you would use the A major scale. Thanks
This backing track sounds like Oasis :) I think you should put a Britpop sounding guitar. And a tambourine over the top of this and will sound like Oasis :)
In theory this is A mixo but I can´t manage to make that sound right. Now trying Aminor pentatonic including some makor 3rds, see what happens. The later is what Kenny Wayne does on his song, other than his tune being on D
I think A mixo (D maj) works, but you have to switch to A major when you get to that E maj chord. Or, use a pentatonic that works over the whole thing...
I dont know what bowiemusic is talkin about ! i loved playing over this with A major and panatonic scales and i wipped in some slide to boot ! check out my CD here on UA-cam
You might try F# minor pentatonic pattern starting on 6th string 2nd fret and notice the tonic/root moved on you to the A (its the familiar go-to favorite pattern starting on F# as the first note of the scale, BUT don't make the mistake F# it won't be he Tonic/Root just because it's the first note, the root will actually be A) The A major pentatonic works. (both are relative scales, both have same notes, but the tonics/roots move on you from where you are used to them if you play to minor tracks allot, this track is A major and that's the wrinkle ;-) I think you will have luck there. Sounded good to me playing it this way. Very nice track to play with and get those Billy Gibbons pinch harmonics with the neck pup and nice amp tone. this link may help. www.all-free-guitar-lessons.com/images/a-major-pentatonic-scale.jpg

whats that guitar in the pic called people??
I call it Murray.
Not sure how this is A Major. I can hear a natural G in the second measure of the four that make the riff.
mixolydian A major It's the chord progression from A to G that makes it. Read about mixolydian scale and it will all come clear.
Its in A minor ... not major
No, but you can play a-minor pentatonic to it.
