Major respect for John doing this. His house. His rules. Don't like them? He gave an option. To me, he is doing a major service to his 'real' fans. Tolerating one person who is screaming wrecks the experience for the hundreds who want to enjoy the music.
Stands against antisemitism, racial prejudice and anything else that’s hateful and stupid. He doesn’t run with the pack, doesn’t worry what people think about him. John, you’re respectful. It’s why I respect you.
As a lifelong fan, I was thrilled for this first-time opportunity to see him. I treated my adult children to this concert because we as a family, enjoyed the years of his memorable songs together. We’re Michiganders that live near Toledo and love the smaller venues like Stranahan in Toledo. Let’s begin with the underlying elephant in the room. John Cougar Mellencamp admittedly states “he has a difficult personality”, as seen on an interview, and I feel he was “the” contributing factor in this fiasco. This isn’t one incident, it’s a pattern. From where I was sitting, I barely heard the heckler’s remarks, just a voice yelling his name periodically and shouting out a song request. Regardless, the primary disruption for me was John’s continuous bantering with this buffoon. I’m certainly not condoning the hecklers actions, but why not ignore it, or use two minutes and have security remove the menace, rather than banter, halt the show, and threaten to truncate the set by 10 songs? He literally sucked the air out of the room leaving many of us bewildered. From my point of view, I’m gobsmacked that a seasoned musician/entertainer lacks a protocol or plan “B” for these situations. But, he chose to continuously engage, escalate, then implicate 2,000 other obedient, paying customers . It’s his show, we paid for the goods, and he bears the responsibility to deliver. Instead, we got a pilot that continued to fly in turbulence, reprimanded innocent people, before finally ditching the plane--- over one unruly passenger. As a side note, overly reactive and hypersensitive artists should realize that their songs, lyrics, and stories reflect “their” personal life, not ours---and they've been paid handsomely for it thanks to us. We recreate personal memories using their songs with our own life experiences, time and space…that’s what we pay hundreds of dollars for to hear and feel.

Awesome he did this. Went to see Springsteen a couple weeks back in State College and I just happened to sit ahead of the most annoying person of my concert going life. The guy insisted on yelling “we love you” constantly looking for some kind of acknowledgement the entire night if Bruce was telling a story, playing a softer tune or if there was any kind of silence.
I am not a Mellancamp fan, but he is 100% correct. The crowd screaming and whistling. What the Hell is going on with people now. Why would you scream, yell and whistle at a Jackson Browne concert ? Didn't you come to hear the music ?
There was a Seinfeld episode where Jerry went to the office of an audience member that was disrupting his show and he heckled her while she tried to work. It was pretty funny. Imagine if Mellencamp shows up at your job and screams at you while you're writing your TPS report, (reference for Office Space fans).
Says a guy that has obviously never went to a concert venue or bar where, by the way, Little Johnny Cougar got his start. John is full of shit but mostly himself. Sad and tragic, but mostly pathetic.
@@rcandrews4334 Okay, so the Grammy winning singer with dozens of hit songs, who was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and has achieved great acclaim and financial success is "pathetic." But you, an angry incel troll who spends his time insulting people who he's jealous of in UA-cam comments, you're *not* the pathetic one? Got it. What a raging genius you are. Why don't you go spend your time j*cking off to your pics of Trump and Putin instead of trying to belittle people who don't even know you exist and who will never read your lunatic ravings? Sad!
Could've been announced in a smoother style. The best way to announce things to the audience is to keep the rhythm section playing at a soft level while you ask nicely. Carlos Santana and Bruce Springsteen employ this technique. JM's announcement comes across as a blunt "Get Off of My Lawn" approach.
John Cougar had every right to or say what he did! This guy earned his way here and dedicated his whole life making good music. If your a drunken idiot who got a ticket for the show, why did you go if your going to heckle him! Taylor Swift got upset with 2 girls at one of her concerts for taking selfies of themselves, calling them out which I am sure embarrassed them greatly, which to me is far worse treatment to a fan base than this. There will never be another singer like him and should be shown with nothing but respect.
I went to go see Roger Waters last September and all I can remember was a group of fuckers next to me screaming shit the whole time instead of the concert itself. Very unfortunate especially considering these concerts could be the last
All I could remember was the giant Star of David emblazoned on a pig prop as part of his stage show, and his rants about how Putin is right, "the Nazis are in control of the Ukraine government." Why would Frankfurt, Germany want to cancel his shows?? Just doesn't make sense.
Agreed. In the old days, it wasn't anything that a few sharp words and the threat of an ass-kicking, wouldn't resolve. Backed up, of course by an actual ass-kicking, should the threat fail.
To any Celebrity, Athlete, or Famous Persons: WE PAY YOUR BILLS WE MADE YOU WE CAN MAKE YOU DISAPPEAR JUST AS FAST AND IF WE PAY DUMB PRICES TO SEE YOU THEN WE CAN DO WHATEVER THE HELL WE WANT!!! DONT LIKE IT? QUIT
Well well, you're typing in ALL CAPS, so you must be right. So let's see if we understand your genius logic. If you buy a ticket, that gives you license to scream and shout and make yourself the center of attention during a quiet acoustic set. And the 99% of the audience who also bought tickets and want to actually listen to the music? They have no rights in your analysis. The one loudmouth selfish person reigns supreme. Kudos to you. You've managed to encapsulate the entire MAGA movement in one ridiculous UA-cam comment. 😆
Very well put. I have been seeing live music for over 40 years. The last decade things have changed. And for the worse. People like John said go to the bar if you want to talk loudly. We paid money to see a performance not listen to your story.
For slower sparser songs I absolutely agree. I didn't say good money to hear someone yell over a nice performance. Now if the music is loud and rocking and those screams get mostly drowned out then cool...
I like this. I had to put up with so much screaming and yelling earlier this month at the Buddy Guy concert that it made it hard to enjoy. A lot of people don’t understand the complaint and think they are supposed to join in singing. To hear this addressed by an artist is great.
I guess I’ve reached the “Get off my lawn” phase of my reaction to idiots who can’t or won’t allow the rest of an audience to enjoy an artist they’ve paid exorbitant fees to see in concert. WE DO NOT COME TO SEE OR HEAR YOU! Whether it’s the tool with the cellphone having to let all creation know “Hey, I was there!”, or the American Idol wannabe who must render every song an audio toothache, or the raging alcoholic spilling his eighth beer down your back while cheering the headliners appearance onstage, concerts have become a courtroom exhibit of why the rest of us fantasize about retreating into the woods alone. Personally, I won’t even consider attending a show at a venue that seats more fans than a movie theater, has an open floor where you must stand for the entire show, or pay to see a popular artist who has a rabid following. Small, intimate venues of little known artists just starting out have almost always provided me with a better experience than those of the supergroups in a stadium anyway. As a society, some of us become so ensconced in our entitlement because we believe our dollars are our permission slip to act the fool in a public setting as if let out of our rooms following a parental grounding. I choose to stay home now in my old age for the most part, unless a new or unknown artist truly intrigues me and the venue is comfortable and relaxing. My days in the ‘70s of trying to see everyone of note have morphed into a case of agoraphobia.
Made me think of the first time I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan in Chicago. I had this pinhead behind me yelling throughout the show to Tommy Shannon "Goodbye Johnny Winter, hello Stevie Ray". You can't get away from these fools.
I remember seeing a concert back in the 70s where someone in the crowd kept loudly whistling to nobody's delight but their own. Finally, one of the band members shouts out "Will someone please shoot that fuckin' bird???"
This should also be announced regarding use of cellphones at the cinema before the movie; dare take it out, answer it or just put it on and you can pick it up at the reception when you leave. Or leave all together right now.
My wife bought tickets to see John Mayer as a birthday present, first concert I had been to in over 40 years. The SCREAMING coming from over my right shoulder completely ruined the experience. The young women absolutely shrAAAreaked the entire concert as if she expected John Mayer to put down his guitar and come on over and just make her day. I couldn't hear out of that ear for 2 days. We paid quite a bit of money for these seats and it totally sucked. Thanks JCM for bringing this issue to light, but it won't matter.
Too many “ fans” have been watered down for conduct by watching something like “ Idol “ or similar “ talent “ shows . Someone sings 4-5 lyrics of a song and everyone goes crazy yelling and screaming . I don’t know how the judges can even get to hear anything . ( don’t get me started on those shows anyway …. !!) Talent ???? Singing one tune ….. really ?
God bless him for this!👏 Pretty much word-for-word what I've been saying about these assholes for years. They ruined many a concert and bootleg recording for me
Good question. I gather from talking to other fans online that this was a preemptive thing. He has been doing this at the very start of his quiet acoustic set (3 songs long), because he hates it when people scream and draw attention to themselves during this mellow part of the show. Things were certainly raucous during the rest of the concert and he didn't seem to mind. 😄
Thank you. I did this once at a Paul Rogers concert. I felt so guilty afterwards and I'm so glad that I feel called out and put in my place. Thank you John. But I did have a good time!
OMGGGG I wish Paul McCartney would make this speech. You pay $400 for a ticket and people to your right, left, front and behind bellow "HAYYY JUDDDDDDDEEEEEE DON'T MAKE IT BADDDDD" off key. WTG John M.! And Tim, thanks for posting! 👍👍👍👍👍 Not saying you have to be quiet as a church mouse, but these people take it too far. Settle down and enjoy a great show, no?
This did really happen to you? Oh, brother. I've never been to one of Paul's shows, simply cannot afford it. Now, it seems everybody wants to be in one of the first three rows because then you get a chance that Paul will invite you up to the stage. Except it seems several people have been invited more than once, and the requests are getting more and more about themselves than about Paul. I think it started with a girl who wanted Paul's signature on her arm so she could have it tattoed in. Then there was more requests like that, and fast forward ten years and people want to get married by Paul.
Dont care much for john and bruce's concerts cost to much. Its nice that he said this. I know years ago phil collins and billy joel both did similar things, although i think they were a little more heated in the way they said it, and were put down for doing it. Im 57 now and used to play in clubs and i know how folks can get. But with the price of tickets i pay im not the slightest bit interested in how close someone sounds to the performer. I came to watch them not listen to others. But, unfortunately, thats part of the experience.
I totally agree, without exception there is always one way too intoxicated bro at every show who has to scream over and over and over every time there is a quite moment. Thank you John for feeling like the rest of us. Listen to the music, if you want to bro out go back to the dorm.
Was his first song "Hey You Kids! Get Offa My Lawn? 😏 In all honesty I agree with him. During an acoustic set just enjoy the music. If an artist hits a high note or an extended note well, I can understand showing appreciation. Otherwise, sit back and absorb the moment.
The worst is as the applause is ending there's always a couple of jackasses who have to start yelling "Woooo!!! Wooooo!!! What the hell is that? Does that make you a wild and crazy guy or something?
It’s part of the show., part of his schtick. We just saw him in Vancouver. He said the same thing here. Other YT vids of this tour contain the same clip. I have to agree with others comments that he seems cranky these days but I get it. Lights go down, crowd cheers & a mind-numbing 20 min video intro to his show had his audience pissed off. Nobody cares. Boo birds showed up. Mostly tuned down, slower versions of the hits. Campfire vibes. A long way from the Farm Aid feels. Didn’t play “R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A” & a few others. Brought his grandkids on stage to sing. Cute I guess. Seen John 4X now. Farewell friend & thank you for the songs of my youth.
In addition, can someone also make a public service announcement for the ones who feel they have to dance wildly thru the whole concert 6 inches from you?
Saw John Hiatt in Denver last week and every time there was the slightest pause this guy kept yelling for a song he wanted to hear. Hiatt just ignored him. Other than that it was a fantastic show.
Bruce Hornsby has people write their request down and bring it to the stage because he says everything just sounds like a mumble with everyone talking a once.
He HATES the cougar name--- when he was just getting started, record company told him that nobody would buy a album from a guy named Mellencamp. They suggested the Cougar name, and he dropped it once he proved that people WOULD buy an album, from a guy named Mellencamp.
Never really cared for him. I understand his message but think he could have said it differently. I’ve been to a concert and couldn’t hear a song for this reason but just feel it could have been put nicer. My opinion!!

Any Major Dude...

This guy's out there.
Love this! I wish more artists would do this. Shut up or stay home. I paid to hear him, not you.

John being John after all these years
PRICELESS 🤣🤣
THAT'S EXACTLY RIGHT
SHOOT THE SHIT BETWEEN SONGS
NOT DURING THE SONGS
Awesome he did this. Went to see Springsteen a couple weeks back in State College and I just happened to sit ahead of the most annoying person of my concert going life. The guy insisted on yelling “we love you” constantly looking for some kind of acknowledgement the entire night if Bruce was telling a story, playing a softer tune or if there was any kind of silence.
Raider nation. The Boss priced me out on this tour. But I've seen him 5 times already.
NOOOOOOOOO
You paid good money and that sucks.I must admit I liv in podunk Wv and will never get to see Bruce. He and John are my Americana legends.
I had that happen to me in the 80's at a Bruce show so i said to these 2 girls ''It's not the Beatles so shut up''And they did LOL
Pure Arrogance
I am not a Mellancamp fan, but he is 100% correct. The crowd screaming and whistling. What the Hell is going on with people now. Why would you scream, yell and whistle at a Jackson Browne concert ? Didn't you come to hear the music ?
It's a result of what I call the "Pay attention to me, look at me" generation.
@@ge2623 I agree
@@ge2623 Yep, sadly that's correct.
There was a Seinfeld episode where Jerry went to the office of an audience member that was disrupting his show and he heckled her while she tried to work. It was pretty funny. Imagine if Mellencamp shows up at your job and screams at you while you're writing your TPS report, (reference for Office Space fans).
Sounds like somebody has a case of the moondays.
Eeeeeyeaaaa, I'm gonna have to go ahead and ask you to keep your forking mouth shut, mmmmm k? Great!
@@ge2623 hahahha
i never got that memo. :(
I'll tell what I'd do if that happened, man: Two chicks at the same time, man.
He is right.
Sad!
I wish that such an announcement were made at every gig that is acoustic or more intimate in nature. Good for John.
All. Not just acoustic.
Never mind a concert. Actually wish this was broadcast to a good portion of the general public every time they walk out their front door.
They need to make this announcements at late night talks shows as well. WooHooers should be thrown out immediately.
SO YOU THINK FOR SOME REASON ELECTRIC PERFORMANCES ARE O.K. ? 😂 😂😂
What a DB.
He’s getting a little grumpy in his old age😂
He’s always been grumpy.
Have you gone to a concert these days? Prices are crazy and people are obnoxious. Glad I saw all the greats back in the 70s and early 80s. 🤘
I welcome his grumpiness
@@thelastrebelshow1627 Well said.
Go talk somewhere else, I agree with him
John Cougar had every right to or say what he did!
Very unfortunate especially considering these concerts could be the last
All I could remember was the giant Star of David emblazoned on a pig prop as part of his stage show, and his rants about how Putin is right, "the Nazis are in control of the Ukraine government."
Why would Frankfurt, Germany want to cancel his shows?? Just doesn't make sense.
Agreed. In the old days, it wasn't anything that a few sharp words and the threat of an ass-kicking, wouldn't resolve. Backed up, of course by an actual ass-kicking, should the threat fail.
@@Jeremiah_Johnson139 hehehe
Alex La Rosa -- should've trashed them like a hotel room!
Google when he spat on a fan during The Wall tour. It was awesome.
True definition of a CURMUDGEON!!!
Hero! I saw JD Souther tell people to Shut the F up and get the F out for talking.. It’s about time!
Why would someone do that to this legend!! He gave us so much in the music world
He got well paid for it
For slower sparser songs I absolutely agree. I didn't say good money to hear someone yell over a nice performance. Now if the music is loud and rocking and those screams get mostly drowned out then cool...
Ironically, they're still doing it while he asks them not to.
And he's responding positively to it cuz it's what he expects
I like this. I had to put up with so much screaming and yelling earlier this month at the Buddy Guy concert that it made it hard to enjoy. A lot of people don’t understand the complaint and think they are supposed to join in singing. To hear this addressed by an artist is great.
Exactly! Why would anyone want to go see their favourite artist and sing along?!!!
Is he drunk?
Thank you
That's a fact! Thanks for sharing this video...😀
I had this pinhead behind me yelling throughout
the show to Tommy Shannon "Goodbye Johnny Winter, hello Stevie Ray".
Exactly.
I wish all artists would do this.
Unless ya Come back with with some paint, brushes and a Canvas!I'm all over ThaT!Said John!
I just don’t like this guy .. I really don’t
And here you are?
It's johns party! And he'll cry if he wants to!
At a church you can sing loud but only the preacher is allowed to yell.
Evidently you've never been to Church of God sermons, where they have seizures and speak in tongues.. lol
Depends on the church I guess
My wife bought tickets to see John Mayer as a birthday present, first concert I had been to in over 40 years. The SCREAMING coming from over my right shoulder completely ruined the experience. The young women absolutely shrAAAreaked the entire concert as if she expected John Mayer to put down his guitar and come on over and just make her day. I couldn't hear out of that ear for 2 days. We paid quite a bit of money for these seats and it totally sucked. Thanks JCM for bringing this issue to light, but it won't matter.
Yep! People have no respect for others.
I feel like saying this anytime I go out in public
Too many “ fans” have been watered down for conduct by watching something like “ Idol “ or
similar “ talent “ shows .
Someone sings 4-5 lyrics of a song and everyone goes crazy yelling and screaming . I don’t know how the judges can even get to hear anything . ( don’t get me started on those shows anyway …. !!)
Talent ???? Singing one tune ….. really ?
God bless him for this!👏 Pretty much word-for-word what I've been saying about these assholes for years. They ruined many a concert and bootleg recording for me
What were the audience members screaming about? Just curious..
🤣 it’s a concert old man. Can you imagine The Beatles saying this shit in 1964 ?
Thank you.
I did this once at a Paul Rogers concert. I felt so guilty afterwards and I'm so glad that I feel called out and put in my place.
Thank you John.
But I did have a good time!
Have some self respect
Fonz wants his hair back !
Now I am wondering if he is in fact a fellow Brit?
"We don't whoop and holler in here!" 🇬🇧😂🤣🇺🇲
Dont care much for john and bruce's concerts cost to much.
“Bro”?
Always one?? Try hundreds or more
He's a lot of fun, glad I missed it.
Was his first song "Hey You Kids! Get Offa My Lawn? 😏
In all honesty I agree with him. During an acoustic set just enjoy the music. If an artist hits a high note or an extended note well, I can understand showing appreciation. Otherwise, sit back and absorb the moment.
Totally agree although John has never hit a High Note.
This mf sounds like he’s spent his whole “off time” in a bar
Hell yes!
This was a great song.
Absolutely brilliant 😂
The worst is as the applause is ending there's always a couple of jackasses who have to start yelling "Woooo!!! Wooooo!!! What the hell is that? Does that make you a wild and crazy guy or something?
John,I bet you can't confuse your fans, John... hold my beer
Who is John Mellencamp?
John Mellencamp stoped a show after a heckler said something.im sure I can't put the link but just look it up
MY MAN!!!
“It’s either my way or the cry way." --John Cougar Menstralcramp
Well said
In addition, can someone also make a public service announcement for the ones who feel they have to dance wildly thru the whole concert 6 inches from you?
John let the Cougar out for a moment there. :-)
Maybe if he hadn’t smoked 500,000 cigarettes he could still sing.
Brilliant!…X
If you are going to film the whole show or any part of it while I m trying to watch the show I ll do whatever the Heaven I want too !
Time to take the keys away from grandpa
👊 You got that right!
Saw John Hiatt in Denver last week and every time there was the slightest pause this guy kept yelling for a song he wanted to hear.
Hiatt just ignored him.
Other than that it was a fantastic show.
He probably was on the special sauce
Bruce Hornsby has people write their request down and bring it to the stage because he says everything just sounds like a mumble with everyone talking a once.
"1 RED ROSE"!!!!!
This is one of the main forces behind "Farm Aid"? Wow!
John Cougar Mellencamp, y'all... one of a kind.
He HATES the cougar name--- when he was just getting started, record company told him that nobody would buy a album from a guy named Mellencamp. They suggested the Cougar name, and he dropped it once he proved that people WOULD buy an album, from a guy named Mellencamp.
Well said!!!
The more you know…👍
Love it! Nothing worse than trying to enjoy a real performer and some idiot fool thinks that they need to whoop and holler through the whole thing!
John's "little man complex" has eclipsed the typical ugliness of the condition and evolved into a thing of beauty.
The older he gets the more the name Cougar fits him better!
I thought he was gong to mention karaoke. Not church
Never really cared for him. I understand his message but think he could have said it differently. I’ve been to a concert and couldn’t hear a song for this reason but just feel it could have been put nicer. My opinion!!
Then you are definitely not familiar with this man.
did he acquire dwarfism?
Little squirt.
