      +Keith Tinkler - Indeed. I like the added depth of sound to Emily's music which the sax and flugelhorn bring into the mix. Overall I think that these Stuttgart concerts have firmly established Emily (here at age 13) as a professional jazz musician. Who else on this planet is doing this sort of thing at this age?

      She plays more then just one song in this video (as is implied in your comment). she actually plays seven songs including the encore. Then song that garnered her her ASCAP award was the first one "The Old Office".

    W O W...Excellent performance! (and she wrote most of that! and she did it ALL from MEMORY, too!!! I just GLAD that Quincy Jones hand picked her bass player and drummer. They play very well together! I just wish they'd put a pickup on the bass. He has to beat his brains out to get it lou enough to be heard. He's good!

    Ahhh, Emily of Pittsburgh. That great cosmopolitan city noted for all its young gifted classical/jazz composers. Lol😂 This girl's story isn't even once in a lifetime; it's just once. There's loads of great young instrumentalists around the world, but mega-talented composers across nearly every known genre? Not so much.

    Love this group but sure wish the flugelhorn player would buy and play a trumpet. I have no idea why anyone would play that horrible instrument. Get a trumpet. All the musicians are exceptional and Emily keeps it together with her unbelievable skills and talent. Great jazz, enjoyed it tremendously. Thank you Emily for who you are and what you do.

      @tyowongndeso 9 років тому +4

      +Leng Sorhaindo joey is awesome, i'm proud of him!!! I'm indonesian too so my excitement for him is doubled lol. btw ppl often compare emily to joey which in my opinion cannot be compare coz they both extremely talented but extremely different too. Joey strength is in his improvisation, while emily's in composition. emily almost never played other ppl music in jazz, she mostly only played her own songs like in this video. Jazz is herway to have fun and feel freedom. 1st and 3rd song she composed for the event, mean 2 or 3 weeks before the event. and the 2nd one is 3 months before.

      But she improvises on her own compositions - they are rarely ever played the same.

    Emily,
    De verdad, perdona, pero qué cansado he acabsdo después de este contcierto....
    Tu sabes que la musica es ritmo, melodia y armonia basicamente....Aqui ¿En donde esta la melodia...? ¿Y alguna progresion armonica algo bonita? Solo he oido casi continuamente una matraca ritmica de mil notas por segundo... como un beato cuado le da la fiebre y se pone a rezar a mil nobis por minuto... Parece que se te hubiera acababo el tabaco y solp pensaras en acabar deprisa para irte rapodo al estanco a por la nicotina que te calme... Cusndo acabe de escribirete esto, me voy a dar una panzada de estandars con gente tan *virtuosa* con las teclas como tu, pero mas tranquila, mas madura... No se... Keith Jarret
    ... ¿Le has oido en Londres, su *Danny Boy* ? ¿Y a Larry Williams recomponiendo el tema *Midnighr Sun*, destrozado genialmente por Al Jarreau en el Quincy Jones 75 Birthday Live de Montreaux 2008...? Despues de oirte lo necesito....
    Creo que te pasa una cosa: *Estas mal dirigida....* Eres muy joven, no tienes la personalidad cuajada todavia y te dejas influir quizá por los agentes artisticos que estan a su vez desorientados por los directores de festivales de musica., que no piensan ni en la musics ni en los artistas... piensan en la taquilla y erradamente en el circo. De ti, quieren que hagas circo... que toques muy deprisa, lo que sea... aunque no sea jaz..... como has acabado haciendo... y tu *que todavia no mandas en ti*, cedes a su juego antimusical... ¡What a pity!
    Me voy a despedir de ti, enviandote un par de ideas que trasmito frecuentemente a mis propios alumnos. Se trata primero, de una definicion de la musica, que mo ha sido superada por nsdie desde que se pronuncio. La escribio un filosofo del s. VI, qur fue ministro del emperador Justiniano con el que acabo por cierto muy mal. Solo necesito siete palabtas que están en latin y luego traduciré: *QISQUIS IN SESSE IPSUM DESCENDIT, MUSICA INTELLIGIT* que quiere decir: *Cualquiera que sea capaz de descender a si mismo, ese sabe lo que es musica* .Meditalo.
    Y la segunda idea es un semisilogismo muy cierto: * El virtuosismo es a la musics, lo que la beateria a la santidad...*
    Recapacitalo tambien. junto al otro. pennsamiento. Te tienen que hacer replantearte varias cosas importantes para tus actitudes musicales.
    Hs sido un placer, tener ocasion de hablarte a ti de estas cosas. Si te llegan te afectaran creo que positivamente. By-by.
