Juvenile flying-fox goes to an aviary: this is Oops a Daisy

- Oops a Daisy is a juvenile female Grey-Headed Flying-Fox who was hanging out of the colony during the day in a suburban guava tree.
Little Daisy put up no struggle when I netted her, though she was a little cranky with me.
As with many of the little batties, her time in care wasn't totally without incident, and on evening one, one of her eyes was a bit goopy and gummed up, but this seems to have cleared up; staining with a fluorescent dye showed no ulceration or corneal scratching.
She's a skinny girl who will benefit from buddies and feeding with the crowd. I'm told that she is busy stuffing her face at every opportunity and is soon going to turn her skinniness into something more resembling a pork chop. I love chubby bubbies.
She'll go into the release aviary in a few weeks, and may be released through the cage under the colony if there are enough other late juveniles needing this, or she could be released with adults, since she already has had a wild upbringing with her batty mum, and wild survival smarts.
Yay, a proper survivor. Ya gotta love a survivor.
Tolga Bat Hospital takes donations for our batties. Tolga is an awesome place in Far North Queensland, which has charity status. By sending donations to them, they get a percentage (and deserve every cent) and they can allocate money to me for batty expenses without it becoming part of my income stream (which makes tax time difficult).

Mention Megabattie or Meg in the PayPal message box and the money will find its way to me.
If no message box appears, please email Jenny to tell her that the money is for me.
IMPORTANT: If you pay through the PayPal Giving Fund, can you please email Jenny with the AMOUNT DONATED and the name under which you have donated, OR just forward along the PP receipt.
The Giving Fund doesn’t charge any fees (so the bats get more money) but PP doesn’t itemise out the amount, they just send a total every month, and we don’t know if the money is for Tolga or for Megabattie.

Longue vie à toi petite fille de la nuit.
Regimental judgemental.
And off she goes to her new life. Have a good life, Miss Oops a Daisy.
Good quick reflexes you have, Miss Meg!
She was ready for bat company after suffering all those indignities, including the final ones of receiving a bright pink girly collar and a chip. Unlike many you have shown us, she moved toward the other bats instead of waiting for them to come to her. She’s tough!
👍🏼 I noticed that, too!
A biter! This girl can stand on her own. She will love the aviary. ❤❤❤
Miss bright eyes Oops A Daisy,🩶🦇🤗💕💕 has joined the survivor silent judgement stare group!😳🦇🥺🦇 VERY WELL DONE Meg!!👍🥰
She woke up on the wrong side of the robe hanger this morning!
So feisty! Good sign but dont nip the hand that spoils ya! ❤🦇
lil' Daisy is looking pretty good in the aviary.
lets hope she will make it.
Noice
With so much sass in such a small package, I've no doubt she'll be bossing her peers around in no time!
I was waiting for the "don't even think about it" moment...😅❤
Hi Meg love all these babies thank you for helping them lv Ann❤️❤️🇬🇧🇬🇧
Wow! She instantly joined the ranks of judges without even going through sniffies! My goodness!
What an opinionated and determined little battie person! Live long and prosper, little Daisy!
You must be a star trek fan!
She says I am gonna think about it. I wanted purple and not pink.
She looked like she was smiling when she was with the other batties! 😊 So happy to see her doing better! Excellent outcome!! ❤❤❤
Just look at all their faces so cute
I' so glad Oops is fine and is with her new friends. She Will be back to wild soon!!!!
Have a happy life adorable Daisy! 🌷🌟🍀💖🎊🎊🎊
She's on her way! Daisy has such a delicate little head compared to the other bats. After you leave Meg, I bet the sniff fest will commence.
❤❤❤❤
💙
💕👍🦇
Excellent. And wow! So many bats in there, you all have been working hard.
Good luck to you sweetheart!!!
Don't bite mommy
And Daisy looks so cute ❤
We don't like it when batties try to bite Meg. On the other hand we like batties feisty so that they do well back out in the wild. I'm glad you're feeling better - and feisty - sweet Daisy. ❤😊
Yes, Oops a D. Is a sweet girl
What little wonders they are, each and every one.🎉🎉🎉🎉🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Shes got her feist up! Good luck little Daisy ❤
Lovely bats, yes we love survivor's, thank you Meg. ❤🇨🇦🦇🍁
Well done Meg! So pleased for little Daisy. Such a character.xxxx
The meet and greet looked successful! Congratulations, Oops a Daisy! Dream of flying free!😇❤️🖤🦇🖤❤️
Daisy will have her way…by hook or by crook!!
Oh she's so tiny with the other battles! Good luck little miss Daisy ❤❤❤
Oops a Daisy, you are too cute. Glad she is doing better!
She was a lot better, ready to bite you. Looked bright-eyed aswell
Pink is not my color 😂❤
As the bats hang there in ranks silently looking at you, cloaks wrapped around them, it reminds me of my childhood Sundays and the church elders.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Meg's got some lightning reflexes, yes?
I know if they're going after me by their attitude, however sometimes you're handling a passive bat and it takes umbrage to something and I feel the teeth on my skin. Sometimes it's a warning, sometimes it's a nip, and sometimes it's a bite. I very very rarely get bitten so usually I react at the same speed as they decide to administer punishment.
The lack of SNEEFS for the new girl surprised me; it's almost like shaking hands for batties I assume. Reminds me of my cat Samhain, who is friendly but MUST sneef the heck out of your hand before you're allowed to touch her! 😅
I put her closer to the other bats when I put her in, however I also stayed to watch and these bats are still fairly skittish so I doubt they did any sniffies until I left.
Sad that so many of the animal species are so afraid of humans. It took me time to realize that we humans truly have a condition and disposition to harm those that cnt protect themselves. If I was given the choice I rather not live among humans.
In my life I have been lucky to have met and had as friends, some really really nice (not sugary sweet but just good people nice) people. Some people are worth knowing.
If you look, you find teh occasional gems who don't put themselves out there but quietly go about doing what they do with no fanfare or expectation of reward.
She is so ready to go!😁❤️🦇🇨🇦
Nah, she's not chubby enough to let go, however she thinks she's ready to go.
She is being a nippy little cuss!...I hope that means she is a survivor and will be ready to take on the world soon!!!
I love how they’re all staring at us!

The condemnation of the inverted meerkat jury; you have been found lacking; sentence will be passed...
😂
My goodness !
I feel intimidated at the same time overloaded with cuteness ha ha 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I will have to speak with my lawyer first for an appeal 🤣
And you’re right, they kinda do look like inverted meerkats !!!!!
Oops a Daisy snapped during collaring likely thinking: "I trust you nice lady, but I'm no 'cat' -lucky this pretty pink collar doesn't have a bell to mess with my sonar!"
Hi Linda
Flying-foxes don't echolocate; no sonar.
They navigate by sight and have large eyes; they see well in the dark with the aid of reflectors in their eyes to maximise the ambient light.
@@Megabattie Guess I might say Oops- but instead I'll say WOW .Thank You...I'll keep learning (maybe even study up a little-but learning from your videos is so exciting)
@@lindayoung58 LOL. Live and learn. I discovered that bats have elbow caps a few weeks ago, after 17 years of looking at bat xrays I never noticed they had elbow caps.
