  • Here is my fastpacking lightweight backpacking gear load out. This backpacking kit is perfect for 3 season or 4 season wild camping down to approximately zero degrees. Sometimes you need to travel light and fast so you need to take some ultralight backpacking gear with you. I've got all my camping gear in a 44L backpacking bag.
    My backpacking gear loadout includes all my food and snacks. No cheating! The only thing missing is water but my hydration reservoir is included in the overall weight.
    To achieve a light weight thru hiking gear set up you really need to think 'light' from the start. This means being weight conscious right from the very start. It's not just the weight of your wild camping gear, you need to think about size too. Fortunately most light outdoor gear is smaller too so this will happen naturally.
    I used this set up for my OMM (Original Mountain Marathon) 2 day backpacking event. I had to hike fast throughout with period of light running too.
    This backpacking gear list isn't necessarily perfect, but it gives you a starting point if you want to consider lighting your load.

    This is so reminiscent of when we were little kids and would pull all our toys out of the toybox to show our new friend all the cool stuff we had.
    Backpack = toybox
    Tent = electronic baseball game
    Sleeping bag = Star Wars Millennium Falcon
    Stove = radio controlled Ferrari
    Power pack = Hot Wheels collection
    And so on...
    I leave all those stuff sacks at home, though. Not because of weight, but because they're so fiddly and cluttery on the trail.

    Great video Andy. Ive subscribed and watched your videos for easily 1 to 2 years now and never commented. I feel given recent events that I just wanted to say you're a credit to the backpacking community and I love the level of detail and research you conduct on every review. Your channel is certainly the most progressive and well respected in the backpacking/wild camping space, in my opinion. Keep up the great work and please keep the videos coming. Very inspiring!

    Brilliant Andy...... Absolutely brilliant info, and like others have mentioned, the effort you've put into the info in the descriptions/links is appreciated. The 2023 OMM video and this one are cracking, hope your subscriber numbers increase as you well deserve it. ATB

    A bit different to my daypack/2 day pack i use here in the forests and fells.
    Water is very clean here so I just use a Millbank bag and then boil it if I need to.
    A folding saw, a knife, fluorescent vest and loud whistle.
    Paracord, fabric tape, basically enough to cut tree branches in order to support a leg injury and tie/tape the leg up.
    I could go on but you get the picture it’s more safety and rescue stuff just in case for others too.
    Kendal mint cake! That’s a great short term survival food 😊

    Yay You've packed a Durston tent even though you are most of the time knocking them. Always love your videos Andy... Brilliant!!!

      I don’t knock them, I only point out to people the main design elements are borrowed from other tents. Check out my X-Mid review and my trekking pole tent group test, I say multiple times how good the tent is.

    I always struggle getting everything in my 50L Atmos ag, my issue is the tent, I have to carry the Fjallraven Abisko dome 2 for me & my Mrs, I do give her the poles & pegs to put in her bag, but the tent itself is quite large in volume, just about fit everything, however it is tight!
    The big Agnes rapide SL is a fantastic mat, tried loads of different ones and finally found rapide SL this summer.
    As always great video Andy.

    Great informative video Andy. 7kg is pretty impressive, especially as you don't seem to have skimped on anything.
    I thought I'd done well getting my solo car camping kit down to about 10kg - without food or water lol

    Your load out here is similar to what I use, although I don’t have the Montane bag. It looks like a good piece of kit with the pockets on the straps, was wondering if they are they big enough to fit a large-ish iphone inside? Might treat myself to one in the summer.

    Thanks for another great video Andy. Could you tell me how the Trailblazer feels with that much weight please ? I've been looking at them for while but don't want to pull the trigger and buy one if it's not going to be comfortable with 10-12 kg. Thanks again.

    • @BackpackingUK
      @BackpackingUK  8 місяців тому +1

      With 1L of water (so approx 9kg) I genuinely didn’t notice it but I am used to carrying much more weight. I personally wouldn’t want to take it to 12kg, there’s not enough padding in the shoulders, hips and there’s no suspended frame. But up to 10kg no problem 👍
