    This is by far the best 18650 spotwelder I've used to date, fast doesn't get too hot and consistent welds. The end result would have looked much cleaner with new cells rather than recycled - but recycled cells work for me.

    On the output it is best to have as little resistance as possible. I therefore tinned the output leads connection to the board and as the bus bar connections. In addition I soldered the copper cables into the copper electrodes which I hold in position before pushing the foot switch. I get much more flash and have never needed to move the power from the lowest setting to spot weld successfully. This was after advice from my electronics guru friend, who said that to get the amps up as much as possible the resistance must be as small as possible and demonstrated the maths to me using v=ir.

    I bought one of these too after trying like 3 different Chinese spot welders. Nothing else compares totally worth every penny. But you should really try the auto mode on that thing! I got a foot pedal for it but never hooked it up. The auto mode seriously save so much time and make the task of spot welding large packs a breeze!

    This spotwelder is probably the best available for 18650 cells! I followed the development on YT - brilliant idea! Anyway your welds look very weak to me - you should at least use 80 - 100 Joules! And i would do 4 weld spots on each cell instead of just 2 :-) Instead of the annoying music you should better just talk and share your experience :-)

      I'm so sick of talking and editing my incorrect pronunciation & info I love this style better. That said next one I went a toattly different direction and did an under 2 min script then voice over first - then got the footage - see how that turns out.

    • @OperaBass3
      @OperaBass3 5 років тому +7

      @@FixItYerself Oh but it is. It simply doesn't appear in your dictionary. Look on line. The original technical use of the term "moron" is obsolete and in most modern uses deemed offensive when applied to individuals. "Moronically" (adv) the root is now a term of disparagement alluding to foolish and stupid lapses of taste. The suffix -ic and -ally denotes use as a modifier and intensifier in adverb form. In the case of the overwhelmingly loud and distasteful background "robot music" excoriated in my original post, the phrase "moronically repetitious..." is not only vivid but apt and warranted.

    I would think that you would want to hold the electrodes as vertical as possible in order to reduce the area of tip contact. Since all the current passes through the tips, temperature is not just a function of energy delivered but energy per area of contact. Tilting the electrodes contacts the tapered sides of the points and increases the contact area, distributing the current over a larger area, and reducing the temperature. When you angle the electrodes you can see this in the shape of the dents created.
    It might be possible to estimate the area in contact by measuring the resistance between the tips prior to the weld, and adjusting the delivered energy appropriately, but this would be difficult to do with accuracy I would imagine. In summary, I think you would get better and more consistent welds if you hold the electrodes more vertically.

    nice project.
    how is the spotwelder being powered? in your vid its powered from a battery pack, are there other ways, or is that the way to go?
    also isnt the fuse installed in backwards? i mean they dont have polarity, but shouldnt it be installed so it can swing out when loosening the nuts? in your case if you ever have to change the fuse, you would have to unscrew them completely?

    • @HBPowerwall

      It's being powered by the recycled 18650's on the wall just taped 4S off the 14S battery, it'll run on little lipo packs with high VERY high amp draw ability or a car battery as well.
