Hello from La Punta! I was here in the 1980s when there was nothing but cabanas with hammocks you could rent for a dollar a night. It is still pretty rustic - with everything that can make a digital nomad happy - high speed Internet, party life, co-working spaces, cheap rents - and an organic food store!

Most people skip Oaxaca city on their way to Puerto Escondido, big mistake . It’s such an old colonial beautiful city . Oaxaca city and Puerto Escondido combined would make the perfect most beautiful vacation combo .

So you took my advice and went to Puerto Escondido and Playa Zicatela 😉. After 10 years Lloyd must have found the village so changed. After 25 years I think I would find this place transformed, but I think it always remains a magical place, indeed I think it could really be the right place for you to live there (Mandy seems to actually have this idea 😃). Puerto Escondido became famous in Italy for a 1992 movie ... the theme was precisely escaping from everyday life to go to a hidden place ("escondido" was therefore the right name 🙂), where not to be reached by problems and negativity ... I love Southeast Asia, I know practically everything (I was married to a Thai woman), but I think that Mexico (or other countries in Central America) could be the right tropical place and most suitable for several reasons for our lifestyle. There is actually real Oaxacan culture and cuisine in the area (rather than the generic beach grub offered in la Punta), a vibrant and authentic Mexican Centro, several better beaches that you did not explore, in town and within 30 km; and two beautiful "municipal capitals" set in the mountains: San Pedro Mixtepec and Santa Maria Colotepec. For people attracted to Tulum - yes, you can go to La Punta and find your tribe - IG wannabes looking for a photo backdrop (bring your floppy hat and flowy dress), their next smoothie, a wave and a rave. For everyone else, please know that there is more to PE than what is depicted here and many UA-cam videos offering a more comprehensive overview.
I have just arrived Escondido first day 😂 had an incident with police already but they actually were really helpful and helped me home cause I was lost ahah I was scared though surrounded by 8 cops with guns at 1am in my own lost in Escondido, only arrived an hour before that. Next day morning now and I’m here looking for what to do lol

Either carry a weapon or don’t walk down dark, quiet alleyways late at night… having just said that I realise how this was my fault and could have been avoided haha I only got a small bite

I went to Puerto Escondido with a friend 40 years ago. So magical. Hardly anything there then. It was so beautiful. We had such an amazing time.
