I don't know what to think. Anyways thoughts on Milim holding back? Ready for That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Episode 20 Review?

1) She is holding back, trust me, she can literally split the sea like Moses as if it was nothing.
2) Art really felt off at some points this episode
3) They did not skip so much, its this fast in the manga and LN. One thing they did not explain is that Gluttony is the fusion of Predator and Starve
4) Milim really is devoted as Rimuru's BFF
5) One thing that wasnt mentioned were the different threat classes tho its not solely in this episode(catastrophe, etc)
6) Veldora is stronger than Charybdis and potentially equal to Milim (considering theyre both on same threat classes)
7) As stated 2 episodes back, Milim is ONE of the strongest demon lords. There are only a few among them who can hold a candle with her (I can literally think of only one of them xD)
All in all, Milim only works for the benefit of Rimuru. Thats all I can give to you without spoiling any future content xD
Hint: Just like in naming a monster, they get stronger, defeating/killing individuals to procure some "requirements" would also make someone stronger regardless of training.

Charibdis is just a foil to show how powerful millim is, literally an engine of destruction and in terms of raw power the strongest of the demon lords, so i don't think anything was skipped.
James Tydd this episode was also to introduce the beast demon lord, show case the fighting capabilities and set up plot with the “majins” however that scene with the king of dwarfs and his council men had more content and information, was rushed but they got the main points
Oh. Chibi. They actually didn't skip anything here. This was how the fight went in the manga and web novel. There are no real stakes where Milim is present and wants to fight for your cause. They were never in danger, to begin with since Milim joined them.
And yes. She did hold back. A LOT. like A FUCKING LOT.
They didn't skip much of the fight, but the buildup to it was cut a bit short. Not that anything major was completely absent, but some things were only shown briefly or put into narration.
Wait, this was in the web novel?! I literally read this series in December and don't remember Chrybdis.... I thought there were a few chapters about the daily life of Milim in Tempest, she trains Rimiru a bit, get her dragon knucklers from Kijin as a present from Rimiru and then goes off to show her fellow demon lords. Get hypnotized by Claymen, murders Carrion... then we switch to Rimiru and his adventures with the chibi quintet. Meet Ramiris, birth a demon doll, fight not Chloe, take out some trash, birth Diablo.... pretty sure that was the flow of things. I really don't remember Chrybdis, unless the translator cut it from the translation because it was dumb and pointless. I mean o would have at least out a cliffnote mentioning it.... which chapter of the WN is it. I'd love to reread it?

no Chrybdis was not in the WN only LN, Manga, and Anime. from what i can tell it was pretty much just to show how strong Milim is when shes holding back

@@TheEnabledDisabled It is a little when considering that Rimuru's side is tired while Charybdis isn't and can still regen all of that while Rimuru's side is no longer able to dish out as much damage continuously.
Sure she one shot it, the same way my brother opens a jar of pickles on the first try after I loosened it.
@@TheEnabledDisabled Rimuru's squad would not really defeat Charybdis at all at their current powers, yeah it 30% is not really little, but everyone on his group already used up all their power and energy, that 30% damage done will eventually be healed in no time, since they cant keep up their offense anymore at that rate.

By the way, Milim has a kingdom of her own, though she doesn't govern it. She just started living there around 2,000 years prior and thus protected the place she lived in, killing invaders and passing monsters. Due to that, the inhabitants of that region began to worship her as time passed. Now, Milim is essentially the living god they worship and she lives in a castle they made for her. lel.

@@freman007 She's the 2nd person/being to have become a Demon Lord in that World's history, but in terms of actual age, she's the 5th oldest out of the 10 Demon Lords.
She's part of the 1st generation of Demon Lords, with the other two in it being a lot older than her(as in both of them came to be during the age of dawn of that world, not long after it was created).
As for the 2nd generation of Demon Lords, two of them are also from that world's earliest ages, while the third one in it is younger than Milim.
Among the Demon Lords from the 3rd generation who are still alive, the youngest one is Leon, who's only 200 or 300 years old(I don't remember which it is), while the other 3(Carrion, Frey and Clayman) are 500+ years old.
Milim's attack gave me eargasm.... again.
Also wish they explained "Gluttony" like in the manga.

The thing about Charybdis that they failed to explain so far, is that it is a spiritual entity, and as such more or less indestructible.
That gargantuan monster? Yeah, that was just a construct. The true charbdys was that odd thing on Phobo's chest at the end of the episode.
Milim could easily one shoot the construct, but that did not really remove the treat of Charybdis, merely set it back until it could have regained strength and possessed a new host, and at that time it would be back again, just as strong and dangerous as before.
So, yeah, they did fail to properly demonstrate just why is Charybdys considered at the same level or nearby to the Demon Lords. Not just its individual strength, though that is considerable, but it's capability to withstand near anything.

She's literally an end-of-series level character, it's just that she has had that power level since 2000 years prior to the beginning of the story and that she decided to show up in front of the mc at the beginning of the story instead of at the end.

To be honest, Charybdis was bodied pretty quickly in the manga as well. I don’t know for sure, but part of its attack was probably to showcase the gap between Rimuru and Milim. In that way, your response to how powerful Milim is is pretty much what they were going for. So yeah, a bit of world building to show Rimuru and us what the peak looks like.
That fight with the fish didn't last long in novel or manga it was only to be used to expose clayman and the clowns. The top dog demon lords right now are Miliem, Leon and Guy, there is also a fairy but she isn't battle oriented. Hmm a person named Guy is always a savage

Yup the Gluttony is the upgraded version I think in the web novel the author explained this, but yeah this is anime adaptation so they need to cut things.
Gluttony is explained in vol 4 when Rimuru travels to the western kingdoms

There is no "apparent" with Milim, it is absolute....unless she can be contended with, and only one can do that.

Among the 10 Demon Lords, there are only 2 others who are at the same level as Milim, and one of those 2 got weaker in the past and is thus no longer at that level. The 3 of them are the first generation of Demon Lords. The first Demon Lord and Milim(2nd Demon Lord) are about equal in power. The 3rd Demon Lord used to be about as powerful as them, but no longer is.
The 2nd Generation Demon Lords are weaker than the 1st Generation, but they are still stronger than the 3rd Generation(aka the young generation).
The 3rd Generation Demon Lords are the weakest of the bunch. The Demon Lords of that generation have all already appeared in the anime(Carrion, Clayman, Frey and Leon). Out of the 4 of them, Leon is the most powerful and he's the only one among them to be around the same level as the 2nd Generation Demon Lords.

I am not sure if gia(5th dragon) is stronger than veldora. Milim get her father unlimited mana and that proton beam skill + undestructable body. The power ranking(debatable) is like this1st rimuru dragonoid god form 2nd guy crimson if he use the female form. 3rd milim dragon beam that get stronger the angry she gets, undestructable body and unli mana. 4th choele time control. And the world system protect her meaning every time she dies she can go back to her younger self. 5th conditionally strongest in her true form queen of fairy/spirit ramiris

The manga wasn't this short at all, but they did hit most of the best parts of manga for it. I was happy to see how they treated it.
The pacing was already blazing past everything post-Orc Lord fight.
You can tell by how many of us LN, WN, or manga readers are saying that the anime is skipping important information, character development, and/or worldbuilding.

Rimaru asked her to not kill Phobio when dealing with Charybdis... Phobio lived... Yah, she held back and showed a crazy level of control over her power to do so.
in the manga this arch fight was fairly short compared to the orc lord arch so there was only one episode of fight content anyways.

I remember the fight at least being described as taking longer in the manga. In the way they portray it in the anime it looks like it took less than 10 minutes (because it regenerated twice which was stated to take 3 min.)

It would appear that the LN/WN readers can't agree if any important stuff was cut. Some say the anime made it longer, others say it's sorter. But they all have one thing in common. They were foolish enough to expect something to be as good the second time around.

That's because those who only know the WN think that the Charybdis thing is new, not understanding that it's the LN that's being adapted, not the WN. As someone who has read the LN, the anime has been very rushed since the end of the Orc Lord arc. And it hasn't been made longer in any way whatsoever.
@@sancturillore As an anime-only, I find the series to be entertaining still. The only thing that irks me is the fact that Milim seems to be too op, and the excuse they use to not use her is dumb. Milim is, apparently, one of the most powerful beings there are right now.

Even more so considering that one of the reason they brought up earlier in the favor of letting Milim stay was that it would help defend themselves if Milim in on their side. And yet, when they need her help, they don't want her to help them anymore? That's dumb, I agree. I've also always thought so.
And as for her being too OP... well, she's literally an "end-of-series-level-character" who simply decided to show up early in the story instead. The MC only gets to her level in the last arc of the web novel.
It was pretty much that fast in the manga as well. I had forgotten about this fight altogether until the anime. Also going from what is in the opening the closing it seems there is a lot they are going to have to fit in within the next 6(?) eps that they have left.
Another piece of information they skipped was a small bit of world-building that I believe will be crucial going forwards so they might stated again. They went through an explanation on how different titles are basically unique existences with in the world. Things like Demon Lord or Messiah. And that impersonating one would be very very dangerous. Just a quick tidbit

Fights generally are quite short because usually one of the sides have really significant power adavantage.
As the story went on in web novel though fights didn't get that much longer, but there were so many fights happening all the time, because later on Rimuru won't be fighting against single strong opponent.
this is actually surprisingly faithful. everything in the LN happened mostly as stated. Except that scene of everyone pouring all their DPS onto Charybdis was stated to have lasted for 30 hours. we didnt get to see those 30 hours, we were just told in an offhand sentence that the fight took that long before Milim one shot the thing. and yes. she can do that. she's basically a god
Tbh Milim made the entire thing anticlimactic just when it started to become interesting. I thought we have long passed the point were good guys are OP but I was wrong.

Hey chibi I can explain the details with the demon lords as explained in the light novels. They had 1/5 of a book for there intro meeting that was 30 seconds in the anime when mil showed up first time. And this episode being short is close to what happened in the novel
Remember that the alliance of demon lords made a non aggression pact Veldora? With this, I think that Veldora is same level of power with an alliance of demon lords. I may be wrong but I don't think that he is weaker than a maou, or even a daimaou if there would be such.

They rush a bit bcuz of the manga itself is a little short on this arc and also i think the studio want to proceed to the next arc with shizu's student which you always see in the ending song

To be fair, Charybdis is like the raid boss that you need a bunch of max leveled skilled players to even have a chance at beating. Milim is like that one random npc in the cantina who's rigged by the game, and who's battle only exists for the sake of punishing the player for making the obviously wrong decision.

@@megusmith6258 The first arc with a big focus on the Holy Church happens after the kingdom arc, the invasion arc and the walpurgis banquet arc. Before that we do learn some things about the Holy Church, but the most we get prior to their own arc is Hinata at the end of vol 4 as well as what they did in the invasion arc prior to Rimuru's arrival. That's it.
The anime will only go up to the end of volume 4(end of kingdom arc). So we won't get the Holy Church arc in the anime, except if we get a second season.

am i the only one who feel like things are way too easy for rimiru in this anime...like...multiple broken abilities , an AI that tell him literally anything he need ( he doesn't need to think or try to find a weak point everything is spelled for him) , broken underlings who all are so loyal to him without a really good reason ( the devotion feel so unatural.....the wolf witnessed him killing his dad in cold blood and he brushed it of like it's nothing and now every time he bark it's "master this ...master that")
every potentiel rival become his friend immidietly after one conversation (milim , the ogres , the king and now another demon lord.......like he doesn't know anything about rimiru but decided to become allies with him??)
the show almost over and not a single threate made me thrilled or on the edge.....it's like isekai on easy mode
also the underdog slim gimmick stopped being a thing halfway throu the show....idk tbh this show isn't really as good as i thought.......it pales compared to shield hero which is not even 10 ep in

On your question on skipping content and if it is important.
Charybdis is basically just a transition enemy (aka its basically filler). It does not exist in the web novel and I am not sure about the light novel (it might). They have very limited episodes to finish up the final arc so I can see why they felt they needed to rush it, but from what I can see they used Charybdis to help with some character development that might of been lost if they just skipped it.
lemme just say that Shion riding into battle on Ranga's back was just pure awesome
As someone who did read novel quite far I enjoy these innocent reactions when they hear/see character first time :)
When they first brought up DL in the manga they showed 5+ of them and had a conversation that power scaled DL and Charybdis.
They brought up at that time That Millim was not the strongest but a contender for the strongest. She is the same class as Charybdis, but there being no class of threat greater its ceiling is undefined.
Leon and like 2 others were also brought up as contenders for strongest.
The fight was cut down a little but even the manga devoted no more than 3 chapters to it; thats because its purpose was to show evidence that Rimaru is not the same level as Millim and that Millim is begining to get why obliterating threats is not always best, but restraint is truely difficult when your strong enough to make Gods quake (as I assume she is).
Lastly when people were talking about last season it was brought up... 27 episodes for this season, and that will surpass or meet the manga.
Both Milim and Veldora is considered and classed as disaster class rank monster, while Charybdis and the 3 other Demon Lords are considered as calamity class rank monster. Well, there is only about 4 episodes left for the main story so, I guess they have to speed up a bit. This EP 19 pretty much a showcase of Rimuru's side, Rimuru and his people's individual current strength and power level after the naming/re-naming as compared to Milim using Charybdis and the Megalodons' fight as a reference. Like who can 1 vs 1 and take out a Megalodon (basically Benimaru, Hakuro, Shion, Souei, Ranga), who need slight assistant with each other (Gabiru & Geld), and who need more than 1 person (Souka and her 4 members), who need a whole team to just on even ground without any death (Goblin rider team, 100 pegasus knight team etc). Charybdis's skill Magic Jamming basically greatly reduce all their Magic Attack, while Rimuru's side Magic Power damages are greatly reduced but still able to take out the Magalodons means something. Normal power level of magic attack will technically does zero damage or unable to even use it properly. Charybdis's extra skill Ultraspeed regeneration also makes him hard to be taken down by Rimuru's team current full force. As you can see Rimuru's Black lighting after affected by the Magic Jamming also doesn't do much damage to Charybdis. Orc Lord/Orc Disaster is like Demon Lord level 1~5, Charybdis power maybe like a Demon Lord level 30~40, while Milim is like a Demon Lord Level 100++(based on anime's at least 10 times stronger than Rimuru). Rimuru's current power is maybe like a Demon Lord level 10 as compared to Milim? At end of EP17, Tear mentioned that Demon Lord Frey was worried about Charybdis's revival, the reason being due to Charybdis is the Ruler of the Sky and its 2 skill is total anti to Frey's ability, so its a threat to her. This episode also let them know about the clowns that have been doing dirty jobs secretly, and they start to get the bigger picture and start to link to Demon Lord Clayman, who seems to be the mastermind of the whole issues to instruct Gelmud to create the Orc Lord and thus lead to the destruction of the Orge Village. Footman was 1st shown in EP10 where Benimaru told Rimuru they all about the high level masked Majin that he saw, which he had mistaken Rimuru as a comrade of that Masked Majin in EP9. I am quite curious how they going to end the main story at EP23, I am guessing this season might end with a cliff hanger that leads to Season 2. I think those who only read the WN, are missing out alot of stuff, as WN is just a draft when compared to the refined LN. I recommend those who read the WN with the LN, should go read the LN as well. Will be like a new game plus with new things added and some setting changed, and new routes and change of appearance timing of some characters. For those who only seen the Anime, can start with Manga to fill in the missing details in the anime, then go to the LN, try to avoid the WN until you have finished up to the latest of the LN. WN is like the draft of the Novel, while LN is the refine final version of the story.
it was ment to be short since this battle was ment more as a demostration of 3 things, Rimuru and Co standing in power, a Demon Lords standing in power, and where Milim fits there
I did brought up from the last episode that they did skip the part where they explain the ranking tiers among demonlords and how milim is at the top tier with Veldora which explain why it was very dangerous for him to flying around when he could destroy mountain or lands without even having the ill intention to do so. Also the fact that Charybdis was at a between of calamity to disaster tier because in realist his power is disaster level but only reason why its not seen as a demon lord or push down to calamity level is its inability of rational thinking. The ranking system among the demonlords are Catastrophic (highest tier) - Disaster (mid tier) - Calamity (lower tier) - Hazard (lowest tier) which in chapter 37 its where they explain this before the battle begins. They skip the fact why MC needed to use gluttony and shape-shifter abilities at the same to separate Forbio and Charybris at the was affirm that 90% they were merged and in less than an hour Forbio would have revive Charybdis again. The only they don't explain is where the MC is place in the demonlord class system at all.
So.. it's still 2 chapters per episode. The Charybdis fight is the same in the manga, it's so fast.

there were also a lot more megs than that. making it way more difficult. also Charybis had the skill gravity manipulation which allowed the other megs to fly and help reduce the damage taken. which is why the battle lasted days. the other reason is that the princess role was the healing corps. she aided in healing any injured and they skipped over the explanation of what gluttony and what rimeru was doing to charybis. predator and starving ones merged becoming gluttony. and rimeru was using transformation and gluttony to separate charybis from the host while absorbing any magicules from escaping aka as charybis's spirit. after the orc lord disaster arc the anime has accelerated the plot and skipped world building moments. and character abilities. the battle itself was done in one chapter and a few pages of the following chapter, remember that most anime will use 2-4 chapters of manga per episode
In the light novel and manga it is stated that milim is valdoras niece whom is only half dragon
I think the reason why they made the ep fast is because they're on 19 ep, the anime have 24 ep, meaning there's 5 more ep left until the anime is finished so they want to put as many events in the anime until they make a s2(probably)
Things to remember rimuru's predator along with derivative skills cant consume a target if the target is stronger than himself under most circumstances veldora being the only outlier in a prolonged fight neither the orc disaster or Charybdis could hope to actually win against rimuru , in the manga he didnt just shoot lightning at charybdis he tore away a large chunk of its health by point blanking it with gluttony, also remember for future reference he did in fact eat charybdis. There are also only 2 characters as strong as milim in the entire series on the monster side and 1 on the human side guy crimson and the ramiris in adult form (you'll meet them later if they do s2) and the hero veldora and shizue talk about, no one else even comes close not even rimuru
to be fair the fight wasnt structurally long in either the manga or ln. the charybdis fight is only there is establish carrion and frey into the story as it gives them a reason to exist. In the web novel carrion never actually meets rimuru until much later, this was changed on all other mediums.
A lot of things were changed visually, and it wasn't rushed per se since it actually followed the manga accordingly, but alot of extra information since episode 18 has been left out (manga chapters are 37-39). Things that were changed for example: (1) Charybdis is actually more menacing in the manga and doesn't look like an airliner jet. (2) Rimiru tries to absorb Charybdis and fails. (3) Ranga, Souei, and that girl never really gets close to Charybdis or even lands on it. (4)The minion sharks actually look like sharks and aren't armored plated.
Uhhmm.. Rimuru absorbed charybdis' magicules.. right? So he got a good boost now or sumn?

It was short in the novel/manga too. In fact the planning and aftermath took longer than actual battle.
I've read a bit further in the manga, and the current OP and ED are actually teasing future chapters. And the Charibdis arc was a bit quick in the manga, being just barely 3 chapters, if I'm remembering right. Next Rimuru is going to head off to fulfill Shizu's last regret, and the ED actually gives a big hint as to what that is, I won't say anymore than that because I'm not the kind of person to give out those kind of spoilers.
It took 2 manga chapters to do this battle, I noticed most of the episodes are 2 chapters long each.
it made sense for charibdis to be defeated quickly tbh. This isnt an anime about fight. most the episodes for the orc lord were about building alliances but here rimuru already has an army and a "magical weapon" that can one hit chardbis
according to the manga.. the all out attack that they do in 10 second in the anime took about 10 hours in the mange.
Like you, Chibi, I was happy that Gaberu finally got his moment (which was pretty badass for him.) I also agree that this episode went way too fast, but apparently, that was how it was originally written. It was more about Milim and her insane power than anything else.
chibi is rimuru able to lv. up more after taking chiribdis or he's power lv. up this episode doesn't show. i wanted to see rimuru get same or more power than demon lord so many questions but anyways waiting for that day hehe
