    everyone blaming the mother are forgetting that the events they are telling happened more than two years before the filming. The disease must have deteriorated and her face sunk in more making it very obvious that her face was abnormal. The woman took her daughter to multiple doctors multiple times and was clearly worried about her. People living with a person dont notice gradual differences in their appearances. Get a grip and dont be so harsh on others!

      @@petrasomeone6963 I’m blind in my left eye, have been my whole life. My left eye is also now green, whilst my right is blue. My blind eye drifts the moment I’m not looking around because it doesn’t focus. My parents straight up just don’t notice it, nor did they notice the change of colour when I was 12/13 (I wasn’t born with heterochromia, the colour change is down to how the light reflects back out of my eye after the retina detached). My friends noticed before my folks did. It’s extremely noticeable to people I’ve never met before or don’t know well, especially the difference in colour. You’d be surprised how blind a parent can be to changes in their child’s physical appearance.

    • @goodaimshield1115
      @goodaimshield1115 3 роки тому +2

      @@Theaterfreak Thankfully, I have no health problems, but I was indeed born with heterochromia. It is not obvious, unless under the sunlight. One of my eyes is brown, just brown, the other is hazel. Normally they look plain brown, but in the sunlight, one had a very clear green colour the other doesn't. No one in mi family noticed. It was my friends at 16 years of age that told me, I had different eye colours, one brown, one very clearly "greenish". When I told my mom, she would keep denying it, saying it was because of the angle of the light, etc. After a couple years she decided to accept it, but she said my eyes should have changed colour at age 16. Looking at old photographs, with 9, 6 and 4 years old, the left eye appears slightly clearer in all photographs. Sure, they didn't change, but none of my parents had realised I had a different eye colour till I told them about it. Though, to be fair, I didn't realise it either till my classmates told me. When you're used to see a person, seing them everyday, if there are not radical changes in very short times, you won't notice them.

      Yeah, the one of these that annoyed me the most was the girl where multiple doctors told her she was anorexic. As someone who has had their own struggles within the medical arena I know there are a thousand things that can go wrong with a human body, but some consultants are very arrogant and make snap decisions without reviewing all the details, even where there is significant patient input suggesting otherwise. I know they go to medical school for years and gain experience every year thereafter, but the person you're treating can guide you if you open your ears.
      Most medical stuff are legends, I wouldn't be here if not for the efforts of our own NHS. But like every other facet of living you meet all types of people with all personality types, most are fantastic, but if you feel your concerns aren't being addressed don't be afraid to ask for a second or even third opinion. If you know you're not anorexic then you can't let people tell you that's your problem. No matter their education. Sometimes experience can lead to complacency and blindness to something outside of the routine every day issues, even if it bears some resemblance to one of those every day things. It's doubly bad that they were female doctors in that instance too. They should know better than anyone to not impose their opinion over your symptoms!

      @@etheladr258 Her daughter does resent her mother's behaviour. You can see in the story she is still hurt by her mother constantly telling her it's nothing and ignoring her pain. Unfortunately, she will have those memories for the rest of her life, and no matter how nice her mum becomes, she can never erase making her daughter feel like she doesn't matter. That will affect how her daughter sees herself for the rest of her life and how people treat her. I have a feeling it will be an extremely hard road for poor Nichole.

    This happens to most teenagers with serious health conditions. It’s “natural” to lose your hair because of stress, to be angry all the time, to cry all the time, if anything hurts you certainly just wanna skip school or want attention. Doctors, parents, teachers. No one takes teenagers seriously.
    I know, plenty of doctors sent me away with similar excuses in my teenage years.

    Shame that there's not more awareness of this condition. I too experienced hemifacial atrophy, which I believe was triggered by the emotional trauma I was in. And although I had a more mild form, it would still cause me mental and physical distress. And despite an MRI scan revealing clear, sudden atrophy and seeing multiple Doctors I never got diagnosed by anyone. I believe this condition is much more common than they suggest.

With all her hardships, there’s no blame for her human mistake in underestimating what was happening to her daughter. What a loving family they are. They never gave up. I'm really happy that there is aesthetic surgery available. She has a happy and bright future ahead. It is human nature to look at someone who is different but it does seem that, for some, human nature causes them to be unkind. On my regular journey to work, among the regular faces there was a new face. His physical appearance was causing him concern in the close confines of our crowded train. I realised that he too was showing discomfort. I looked out for him the next day and saw that he was on the platform waiting for the train. It was raining and he had a huge umbrella. I slipped my wet brolly into my handbag and took a chance. I went over to him and asked if he minded sharing his brolly with me. I talked about everything except his appearance and after that we always looked for each other. We shared hundreds of train journeys together over 16 years and got to know each other. I took him along to social events with friends and although he was nervous the first couple of times he settled in with us and he became the gregarious and charming man he had been all along. He married one of my friends and they now have two children. He told me once he was so glad it was raining and wanted to share his brolly. I'm just glad to call him a friend.

      It is far more complicated. A lot of diseases have the same symptoms and doctors usually assume the lightest diagnostic, the one that is more common. It's logical. Not to mention that doctors have different specialties - what a neurologist would notice on the spot, an endocrinologist might miss. And symptoms overlap. There is a reason people go to medical schools for YEARS. One quick Google search doesn't stand for a diagnosis. Rare diseases are hard to study because they are RARE in the first place. And not all of them clustered in the same country.

      It's something that is fairly new in research but there is no excuse for not doing a basic search before assuming I made things up... embarrassing too how many doctors act like they are above and beyond everything...
      At least being aware of the vastness of possibilities out there should be the norm, admitting if they don't know something instead of just saying it's nothing if they don't know what it could be.

What do you think the mom should have done in that situation, considering that medical care is really expensive in the US? Careless and insensitive? More like struggling to provide for her child, not to forget how young she was when she became a mother. I am not a mother yet, and I can't imagine the emotional strain a girl must go through when she's left to care for a baby while she's still a child herself.
