As it's Vac Scheme season, I thought I'd make a video where I talk about my best and worst experiences during a Vacation Scheme and also react to yours! Long time lurker of your channel, but need to share this story so others can get a giggle from the cringe - Only did one vacation scheme (though later ended up as a Paralegal there having not got that TC) and as part of the final assessment my cohort had to have a debate on House of Lords reform. Later at my interview one of the Partners asked me what reform I was most passionate about. I said removal of hereditary peers and explained I thought people should live and die by their own sword. Said partner then frowned and said that on that basis I must not agree with the monarchy. Not the case, but I was in too deep at that point. So, I then had to spend 15 minutes arguing my make believe abolitionists point of view and think I ended up beetroot red before another interviewer took pity on me and moved it on 🙈

This is a bit of a random question, but what time of day do you think it's appropriate to have a coffee catch up? Will this be during lunch, after work? I am starting a spring vac scheme in a month and I am keen to fully get to know those on my team, but I am not sure when it is appropriate to have the coffee catch up lmao.

Is it possible to secure a TC if you got a First from a low uni and a Distinction in LLM at top targeted uni? Will the LLM + legal experience help the chances?

There are firms for whom this will be a barrier for you, but there is plenty of global, commercial firms who are intelligent enough not to care. My A levels are poor, but once I got through to interviews, nobody cared. Do other things (like securing good grades, as you have AND having engaging experiences) to make yourself stand out from everyone who only has good qualities and an excellent uni.
