The slow death of the texture pack can be attributed to many reasons. But how can they survive? Please go viral I spent a shit ton of time on this video lol
I've been playing on a modded server recently and my game crashes if the resource pack isn't installed, so I literally can't play the game without these packs lol
I don't really see how texture packs are dead, the majority of people have never used them throughout Minecraft's lifespan and I don't think much has really changed beside what you mentioned as the rise of minor texture pack changes like vanilla tweaks. at the very least they've become maybe a bit less popular but I think that's more to do with how they aren't as new and people have come to appreciate the default textures more.
I feel like the argument that X is dead just because most people don't use it isn't very good. Like, even take Hypixel, for example. Most of Minecraft's millions of players haven't logged on in months, if at all, but I wouldn't say that the server is dead (although it seems to have peaked a while ago).
I think it's less texture packs dying and more the vanilla textures getting better. Texture packs are still used all the time by a lot of people, especially if you look at most people on 1.8.9. I still use texture packs on basically every version I play on, mainly cause I make a few of the texture packs I've been using. I still end up using mostly vanilla textures, but I've found slight improvements like vanilla tweaks or connected glass are really nice to have (also Fresh Animations, great resource pack.)
@@infernx513 Good point, sorry I didn't notice that before. Although my current instance of that pack has around 160-178 vanilla tweaks, so I wouldn't say I'm using _a few._ Also, I'm running a resource pack that changes spawn eggs to 3D renders of the mob and a 60 megabyte pack I wrote myself that adds over 100 paintings (among many other things). I suppose it's _possible_ that I'm the anomaly here, though.
As a Server Admin, Content Creator and Mapmaker i beg to differ ressource packs are the most important building block for a highly-custom gamemode like you see on servers like Wynncraft or Origins (not the mod). They allow the user to almost change every aspect of the game. I do however agree on the aspect that full-change ressource packs which completly overhaul the game have been singled out mostly to theese gamemodes, as the vanilla textures are well made. I think for the fact that the main minecraft players use optifine or modded clients alone does not leave me in the thought of them beeing lazy, many players I know who play SMPs are using Vanilla Tweaks, which is about the same effort as installing a ressourcepack, also there are many creators showcasing ressourcepacks so they should not be to unkown about. Also Bedrock has a marketplace, yes most of it is paygated but there are all kinds of modifcations available, why do people not use ressourcepacks on bedrock? Bedrock is arguably as active if not more active than java. In my case as a long time player I'd argue that I would not use ressourcepack which completly overhaul the game because - I adapted to the basic ressourcepack - I already have enhancing mods - Compatibility issues, they update the ressourcepack meta version almost every update sometimes multiple times, you dont want to wait on ressourcepack makers to update them, its a hassle to update ^ Ressourcepacks with OF integration always are dependent on third party mods like Optifine or the EFT mod for briding gaps - I can and will install small patches which mojang did not fix for easy play So for my conclusion I think ressourcepacks are not dead, they are evolving and allow players to patch what they need a modular composition and tailored to the user, just how minecraft is intended play as you like. Thanks for comming to my TED talk, stay safe
I'm more of a shader guy when I want to spice up my game, but I will make a small texture pack from time to time to tweak a texture or add a custom item for my datapack with custommodeldata or something.
The old ones aren’t updated and there are issues with stuff like the nether blocks being inconsistent A reason I tend to not use packs is I like modding and a lot of mods aren’t compatible
AS A MAN WHO WAS PLAYING SINCE BETA YOU DISGUSTED ME FROM SAYING THAT OLD TEXTURES SUCKED I THINK ALL PEOPLE HAVE THEY OWN CHOICE OF TEXTURES BUT NEVER... NEVER INSULT OLD TEXTURES IN FRONT OF ME
The "majority" might not use them, and I think it has to do with not only the default textures being better, but also big youtubers not using them/using vanilla tweaks along with shaders. That along with pvp packs being less common as people move away from the 1.8 combat focused playstyle on servers.
I like using the trailer recreation mod pack, its a mix of textures and gameplay mods that make minecraft look and feel like the trailer, I really like it!
To everyone saying packs aren't dying, and providing the fact that no one used them in the first place... well that second point is true anyway. But the thing is, texture packs are infinitely more popular in 1.8.9 as opposed to newer version (they still exist in later versions, but much less popular). And since 1.8.9 servers like Hypixel have been seeing sharp declines nowadays (though I suppose that can be said for Minecraft as a whole), the texture packs are dying with them. Yes, you might use them - heck, I spend most of my Minecraft time with a pretty strong texture pack. But to say that they aren't dying is simply untrue.
I've been developing a texture pack for around a year, an entire conversion of the game. A few little snippets of it are on my UA-cam Channel. John Smith, BDCraft, and others were some of my favorite packs, and I was VERY inspired by them to do so. I'm thinking of uploading the betas soon. :]
IMO shaderpacks took over from texture packs. I like Mizuno's texture pack but shaders takes all the glory. Texture packs are probably more popular on Bedrock.
Well edited video, but I don't really get why you're saying texture packs are dying? While your reasoning could definitely be classified as true, it seems opinion based instead of proving that no one wants to use texture packs anymore. Especially considering that most people I know/youtubers use many texture packs. Also, kind of an irrelevant topic for a video lmao
Personally I think the creativity around texture packs is dead, rather than texture packs themselves. Every texture pack tries far too hard to be "vanilla styled" or some kind of PVP texturepack. The more artistically creative texturepacks tend to get abandoned really quick and/or do not get finished/updated. There is also an extreme lack of texturepacks based around videogames compared to back then. Years ago you'd be able to find extensive texturepacks around any retro game you could think of. Now even the most popular franchises (Zelda, Pokémon, etc) you'll struggle finding a 100% extensive resource pack for. There is also the extreme rise of "PVP texture packs" which are the bottom of the barrel as far as creativity is concerned.
Few other things I found, average age of Minecraft players is actually ages 15 to 21, so not children. Also Covid19 was 2020, not 2019. And this entire video seems kind of pointless? Your title claims that texture packs are dying but you finish by saying that they're not going anywhere? Not to be rude but it doesn't seem like this was really a video you needed to make. Good video though, I do recommend that you fix the sound a bit for your next one, got really loud music at some parts.
i kinda do agree, that the only texture packs existing for newer versions are little tweaks and nothing too crazy, and apart from ppl who use 1.8 not that many use packs
I use a variety of texture packs every time I play Minecraft, so do all of my friends, and I've seen countless people using them too. Youre just looking in the wrong places.
This video is "Bad" in some ways. Most of the player still have a Texture Pack and change it.
