I am so glad you got to this video. I made my 2 daughters in their twenties listen to this and watch the video. I’m an almost 50 year old momma who is a huge Zack De La Rocha fan and have tickets to see them and Run The Jewels in Detroit when this pandemic is over. I believe RTJ is the link from my generation to my children’s generation and their message needs to be heard. Please check out the 360 degree RTJ video for Crown. I am trying to make them watch this one next. It’s so damn good! The fact that I’m gonna see RATM & RTJ when this horrible year is over is the only thing keeping me sane right now, Real talk.

As a middle aged white male American processing the incredible social events of the past year this video was a gut punch that Damn near made me cry. The video is an obvious allegory for the constant fight between black men and the police, a fight that never ends, that starts the moment a black man leaves the house, and leaves both parties bloodied and hurt. I grew up on RATM and their message, RTJ is a 21st century reincarnation. EL’s beats hit just as hard as Tom’s guitar, Brads drums and Tim’s bass. This is art.

The fact the law fought like a man, and did not resort to weapons, or back up help. Gave the man a fair fight.
This is one of the most brilliant videos I've ever seen. The "fight" is essentially a choreographed pas de deux. The lyrics are hard. Against the exhausting pointlessness of the current situation as illustrated by the video, the call to action in the lyrics is unsettling.... just like Zack's verse about the tarmac and the starter jacket in Ju$t.

LaKeith Stanfield and Shea Whigham make this video feel so real. Great camera work!! and Zack comes in with that "I'm miles ahead of you, you can sip my bitches brew?!?!?!" prob goes over a lot of heads but one of Miles Davis' best albums is titled Bitches Brew. I always loved that line
"Ima fella with melanin, suspect of a felony" goes hard as fuck too.
Both "Miles Ahead" and "Bitches Brew" are Miles Davis albums with makes it even better.

El-P - Accidents Don't Happen. Everything about this song is hard af. El-P's voice is a sledgehammer, Cage knifes the track, and Camu Tao crushes the rubble. The bass on Accidents Don't Happen proves that El-P is the best producer of all time. There is no music video.

There's always so much to absorb with RTJ's music and videos. Its easy to get wrapped up in the beat, their lyrics have to be listened to several times, and there's a depth you don't get out of mainstream hip hop. I know you got "Christmas" coming up, but there's still a whole catalog to get to. You still need to check out El-P's "For My Upstairs Neighbor (Mums the Word)", it will punch you in the gut!

With this song and video I had to watch it 2 or 3 times to take it in visually because the audio distracted me, then I switched over to spotify and bumped it in my car to actually listen in detail to the song without that video distracting me.

Who has the best message, a lot of us have the same message. That’s the point. Machine Gun Kelly spent 2 years beefin wit Em, then he covered RATM. ICP beefed forever with Em, then their armies joined sides. That’s where we at right now. Rage is back to push for more, and you should expect more. Understand. We have a United enemy. It’s literally in Wake Up! When he side steps like Cassius and bombs a left on the fascists. There’s lots of work to be done, but we can’t do it without collective action. We can’t do it without you and me. That’s the greater message of Rage against the machine. We can vote as a collective to create the future we want. We can fight for our own future as a society. It might be peaceful, it might not.
One of the guys on their recommended reading list on Evil Empire is Saul Alinsky, who literally set bombs in the 1970’s. If you think property damage was the same as MLK and Malcom getting killed, no. But that’s the level of revolution they’re talking about.
