  • In this video I show you how to service your Mini Cooper S R56. Very easy job that requires basic hand tools, nothing special and no power tools needed.
I personally think it’s great when people service their own vehicles.

As someone who's owned several Mini Coopers and Cooper S, I'd highly recommend changing the fuel filter every other service, and only ever run them on high octane quality fuel, like BP or Shell V power, the extra cost is offset by smother running, instant throttle response, more torque, and better economy.

Yeah I always use E5 fuel. Never E10

I tried it and saw no difference in fuel economy and in uk get ripped off for super petrol - so much more expensive. Most petrol stations don't advertise the price either!

@@terminallyinquisitive1731 I’ve tried running my R56 on E10 fuel multiple times but it just doesn’t run right. I wish it. I know what you mean, you only find out how much it is per litre when you actually go to the pump lol. Some around here are like 1.44 for E10 then 1.58 for E5! Which for a full tank difference between the two is a few quid but still

Great video! Just bought myself a 2012 Cooper S R56 and haven’t got much experience with DIY work on cars. This is really helpful, thanks 👍🏻

Hey bud, planning to get a 2012 Mini Cooper S, what are your thoughts on the car? the one I am looking at has 200k KM mileage on it. @joshuawhatley5798

@@denny_georgemy wife got one with 100km. Burns through a quart of oil every 500 miles. I've had to do numerous repairs and service to it from shocks and struts fuel filter thermostat etc and no matter what it is. It is always an excessive pain in the ass. Terribly engineered cars.

5w 40 is probably about right mate. You want a higher viscosity on cars that are older. Especially ones like this. I use Forte oil fortifier which essentially increases the thickness of the oil. I also use Forte valve seal contitioner in an attempt to avoid a costly trip to the garage. If you intend to keep the car its worth thinking about. Unless you have money for new engines lol.

Unfortunately we are thinking of selling our Mini in the next month or so due to it being extremely expensive!
We’ve owned it since March 2021 and have spent over £3k just in repairs, baring in mind we spend £3k just buying the car. So we are over £6k down and it’s just not worth it anymore.

On your Odometer, right next to the Miles/KM traveled, there's a triangle with an exclamation point. What is this? I have it on mine too, and I can't get it to turn off.

It could be that you have a service light on, a broken bulb, under inflated tire. Could be anything. At the time of recording this mine was the service light but I’m not sure how to switch it off..

To finally check oil level and for leaks around filter I'd run the engine for a couple of minutes then let it stand for 10 minutes before checking oil level. Btw dip stick guage on mine - 2012 Cooper S is the same colour as oil - great design not!
