Fun and true fact. The German/Swedish 75mm design became the Bofors M29. This Anti air craft was a successful export during the war but most importantly it was far more easier to operate and it was quite durable. The 88 is a famous and deadly gun that made history by being used out of necessity. However the 75mm AA role lived on well into the 1970's and beyond because technology advances, cost and size of shell. And BTW, the 75mm AA design was reluctantly used by the Germans as well during WW2. One important and almost lost to antiquity is the M51 Shy Sweeper (45 round a minute). The skysweeper concept of a compact mid range AA gun that has a high rate of fire is the foundation to modern 75/3inch/76.2mm technology of today. If you have add the 3inch/50 caliber (76.2mm) anti air, there are a few countries still using them on patrol boats. Also the 76.2mm OTO Melara AA navel gun is a marvel of engineering and can fire up to 120 round per minute. I personally believe that Bofors knew what they had. Made that gut check and because of decision made a very successful product that was used during the war and beyond. The grand daddy of all AA guns is not the 88 but the Humble German/Swedish design of what would be called The Bofor's M29.
Cheers Andy, I think they did, although some of the AA crew may have been Luftwaffe crew. I think most people mistook other tanks for Tigers rather than the sound of the gun.
My grandfather was in the first war and when a shell went of and went Krupp the shouted out, we know who made you. Still in business now known as Krupp Thyson i believe
I feel for the allies. What a nasty surprise they had. Kudos to the Germans for figuring out how to mount that beast on a tank. We all know how that went.
When that tank came to service is was tougher and stronger than anything and just as fast as anything else. It was also nightmare of maintenance crews and logistical black hole.

Wasn't the Flak 75 also used as an anti tank gun?
This gun was so good they put it on a tank the Tiger tank to be precise
They should have mounted it on anything that could carry it. Simplifies ammo supply and it was probably the best gun of the war.
Gee thanks for being precise. Lol. It only says that in every video about the flak88! Lol
You got a sense of humour respect
Great video sir. Lots of great information.
Cheers!
I love that gun so much it looks good with its wheels on too
Apex of ballistic tech .
Interesting video. Thank you.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome video Alex. Did the gun have the same crews for both roles? Do you think some 88 kills were said to be tigers because of the similar sound ??

British had te 3,7 inch (94mm) every bit as good but never used against tanks one aircraft.
Devastating long range anti-armour gun

@@vksasdgaming9472 Strangely, the Brits were able to slap a 17 pounder on a Sherman and didn't have much trouble.
@@Tom_Quixote Sherman Firefly came to service 1944 and Tiger came much earlier. It was also Sherman which by then was proven design.
Great stuff mate 😀😀😀👍👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
@@StormofSteelWargaming - amazingly accurate research ! and remarkably unbiased, too. Congrats.
In Japan, it is called "Acht-Acht". (Acht mean 8 in German)
Is it said in America?
I don't know about America (I'm British), but we usually refer to them as Eighty-Eights.
ゆっくりの視聴者 flak 88 or 88
We called it the 88 too (eighty eight)
Nice voice and detailed explanation
Thank you!
Produktion Krupp in Essen and Magdeburg
are you really telling ma the British Intelligence didn't know about this 1:10
If they did they didn't stop them.
WAR ..its about making massive amounts of cash
Tbh, they probably had far more pressing issues domestically than checking is Germany were making artillery secretly or not
Please remove the music from your videos, very difficult for we old veterans with hearing loss to enjoy. Thanks.
