had a torn and flipped lateral meniscus from a botched slide tackle that took 23 years to feel normal again. this was the first time ive ever had a visualization of what happened. very cool. thank you.
The articular cartilage never ceases to amaze me. Even on a cadaver, with all the chemicals involved, you can get a glimpse on how smooth and lubricated it is.
I've torn my meniscus on both knees. Each time I let them heal on their own. One took longer than the other but both healed and I'm still playing two man beach volleyball at age 60.
@@BURLESQFITACADEMY Ice, naproxen as needed, knee brace as needed(McDavid is a good brand), light exercise to keep the range of motion and gradually increase intensity. Give it 6 months to improve before going under the knife.
I recently heard from a sports medicine doctor that they've recently found that surgery doesn't help much. (Of course, that's an overall "average," so I suppose there are some cases where it helps.)
❤❤❤in college I was a science major. I took Anatomy, Physiology, chemistry…all the science classes. The college had its own morgue, so we got to dissect real cadavers. It was interesting but at the same time sad to think that these bodies once had life and lives and to wonder also, why or how they died😢
This information is so valuable to me personally because 2 years ago I actually blew my knee out because my knee joint had actually pinched the meniscus tissue, making it impossible to bend or extend without SEVERE pain. All I did was extend my leg while sat down, and brought my leg back close to myself, I felt some kind of tension building and then it locked up entirely. I still have issues today and my doctor told me it was just something I would have to deal with by using physio techniques. It's so interesting to see what could've actually happened inside my knee, thank you for this!!
Tore mine almost in hal. Doc did his best to fix it but it ripped in half while I was still wearing a brace. A year later full knee replacement at 52. Still think it was a good decision 2 years later. No regrets. This was very cool to see.
I've torn one on each knee. 🙃 Had to go with option #2 both times, because apparently when I do things, I do them thoroughly. Both were torn pretty much the whole way through.
I had a torn meniscus on my right knee from a fall. By the time i convinced the dr to do a scope it was bone on bone. Fun fact, 50% of torn meniscus do not show on an mri. I opted for a partial knee replacement but the doc who did the surgery must have been over confident because he botched it. 2 years later his partner did the one test he didn’t and found one ligament was cut way to short and one was left long. Sadly, the revision surgery could only do so much. It’s been about 16 years of daily pain now and I’m not certain a total replacement would make anything better.
The initial shock of a Total replacement is the worse. But, the pain aspect in the long term is so much better. They physically remove the nociceptive tissue that relates the pain from the joint to your body. And a lot of patients I work with, are extremely happy with the results. I’d recommend researching for surgeons with a 4.5 star or higher reflection. And makes you feel comfortable and understood!
I would hate to see what my meniscus would look like in either knee I've torn them so many times thanks to skateboarding. I've never done any surgeries either...
I’m trying to decide about surgery right now! It feels like a crochet hook is snagging it with every step. They gave me the corticosteroid injection 💉which gave some relief but it’s back with a vengeance😅!
You know I want instant results with a total makeover on me I hope there's no one making my choice to what I want to have done to me because I am suffering and I haven't made my fortune yet I believe in mother nature with healing and I believe in science giving me instant results. I am of sound mind I want to improve on my health and looks because I am going to keep up with what I have to do on maintenance. Trust me I know someone has it in for me😂 Long story short I want to be a good Rockstar and build my own community to where I want to live and I will donate to where I came from because I think we all need to remember where we came from in life 😊
Repair of the meniscus is the number 1 most unnecessary surgery done by ortho docs. Many times the problem is bone on bone and removing/smoothing the meniscus does not fix the problem.
I’m 12 I torn my meniscus in my left knee horizontally, the place it torn doesn’t have much blood flow apparently? Im not sure. It hurts sometimes but it still has not healed.
Hi, i am a normal person not a doctor, so i have a question you as a doctor while seeing such a complexity of a human body what you think? What is the purpose of all creature's creation?
Evolved to survive, with many problems along the way. If you want to know why exactly each piece of your body exist - you have to learn it's function and history of humanity, starting with bacteria.
Why would they snip it out if it's torn, It's already torn? I mean , that's what a snip would do too right??? I don't get it. Why wouldn't you just leave it and then?Eventually it would heal up enough so you could Use your knee again because that's what surgery would do??

The most painful injury I’ve ever had. I chose not to do surgery and it’s actually healed pretty good.

I usually just die and respawn at my last save point and everything is back to working order.
Kids need to learn that in real life, you can't respawn, and once you get shot, you don't have a saved point to go back to. You get one life.
@@Primetimetoons-bx2mj you've obviously never tried before. Give it a go😂

Thanks for bringing these videos to us. Being both naturally curious and medically complicated, I've learned a lot.
Relevant. I'm recovering from a tear right now and hoping to avoid sugery
I had a bucket handle 90% tear and chose to not do surgery for the knee. 4 or 5 years later no pain no re-occurring injury. 48 yr old now.
@@zekethefishgeek8690what was your rehab?

Now my knees hurt. Thanks.
I was under the impression that my left knee lateral meniscus was completely removed in 1972 due to a bad cross check while playing hockey.
