    I heard "we tore a flex" and I thought, "BS, that's what you put in the invoice."
    If you took a running car to a dealership and they returned it to you in a non-functioning state and told you, "Sorry bubba, you're on your own", that's like candy to an attorney (or it was 30 years ago, maybe they put "you waive your right to sue us" in the contract now?).
    The problem is, the Genius Bar is full of amateurs who aren't trained to do what Jessa does here.

    • @JessaJones
      @JessaJones  Рік тому +3

      Phone worked, went in for a separate issue. Apple tech verbally assured Megan that her data wouldn't be harmed by their investigation. They took it in back and broke the screen accidentally. The Apple tech admitted he "ripped a flex" (without saying it was on the screen) and said that recovering the data was now impossible but he would replace the phone itself. Second tech confirmed data recovery impossible. She escalated to store manager who gave the Drivesavers referral. Left the store without the phone so she could pursue data recovery. She sent the phone to Drivesavers, got the quote for $3300 and declined. Then found me and sent the phone here where I opened it while filming this video.

    • @tektonike

    The amount of times I've had people come to me with similar issues because an Apple technician failed to do a visual and mechanical inspection of the device when Apple literally has that in their training and it is pounded into your head while taking it baffles me. It takes about 5- 10 minutes to do a thorough inspection and that tech should absolutely have known that was the display flex cable. IDK that they still have stock parts. Part of the trouble doing mac repairs for Apple is they don't let you stock parts. You have to order things only when needed unless you want to pay three times the price to stock a part and then if you do it is really only for testing purposes because when you submit the repair it generates a part order and starts their internal process to pick it from the warehouse and ship it to you asap.

    • @JessaJones
      @JessaJones  Рік тому +5

      There’s no way that the Apple Store in an American city doesn’t have stock screens for iPhone 13 series. AASP or IRP-sure, but not the Apple Store. Even if they didn’t, why not give her an option to come back in a few days to get her data and let her have the replacement phone now?

    I wish I had someone like you to stick up for me and my car. I took my damn BMW to a supposed BMW mechanic because my window was stuck down and wouldn’t come back up. Just one of the many, many awful things about BMW. This was early June in SoCal, several years ago. Right before our worst heatwave. I got my car back with a completely nonfunctional AC. One that had NO issues before going there. Why did it come back broken? Because I’m a white girl with a BMW so obviously I have money to blow to pay them to fix. EXCEPT OOPS I HAVE LITERAL NEGATIVE DOLLARS IN MY BANK ACCOUNT EVERY MONTH. They said they could “fix it” for $800 but couldn’t tell me wtf was wrong with it. Every other mechanic I brought it to had no idea what happened to it, because stupid BMW makes it so it could literally be any one of 100 things. I obviously did it pay them $800 to ‘fix’ something they deliberately broke. And guess what? None of my windows can roll down. No AC (not even fan, it’s literally just dead) thanks to deliberate sabotage. It’s been 100 every day this week, and this is years later. I literally have to pray I don’t pass out of heat stroke and die while I drive because I have a job and am required to drive. It’s beyond infuriating. I wish I could burn the damn mechanics down.

    Just under a month after I got my iPhone 14 Pro Max, my taptic engine stopped working over the course of two days, which I would consider to the faulty device kind of situation. Verizon was only willing to replace my phone with a refurbished one even though it’s a brand new iPhone, an apple was only willing to replace the taptic engine if I paid for everything. Even though it seems like I had a faulty iPhone, or at least a faulty component within the phone. I’m sure there was something in the fine print somewhere but that still just seems like BS. Lol.

      Phone worked but had an issue with cellular data connection. Apple technician assured her verbally that her data was safe during their diagnosis, so she didn't make sure it was backed up. Then they broke the screen and DID offer to replace the phone. She asked about saving her data. Two technicians told her that getting her data was now impossible. Escalating to the Apple Store manager told her that she could try their expensive partner Drivesavers. She sent the phone to Drivesavers and was quoted $3300 after they examined the phone. This was just a broken screen the entire time.

    Here's the question I have from a customer's perspective that I'd like an answer to.
    So, Apple broke her phone, gave her contact to Drivesavers, who quoted her 3000+ dollars for repair.
    Obviously, the screen replacement doesn't cost nearly as much as that.
    Is she still required to pay the Drivesavers' price, or can she tell them to get bend and that she'll only pay for screen replacement and data backup?
    Essentially... is she still screwed for thousands of dollars?

    • @JessaJones

      Megan declined the DriveSavers quote and sent her phone here instead which is the only reason we know about this case. DriveSavers routinely charges people $3000+ for devices that only need a new screen. You can see examples of this on my DriveSavers Playlist.

Those incompetent people deliberately break her device and take no responsibility at all. Then they send her to Drive Savers who tries to get $3500 for recovering her data from a phone that just needed a screen. The thing I truly hate about Apple is sometimes their bad design choices find their ways into non Apple devices. You would think their competitors would be taking it as a lesson on how not to design a terrible device! I know people who if they found they were a victim of this scam might find themselves in jail for what comes next when the "genius" gets his comeuppance!! If you could only get your phone repaired at Apple, they would never have to honour a warrantee again, ie, they just say YOU broke it, and you couldn't do a thing about it.
    As far as DS, if the phone was on and you plugged it into a computer, wouldn't you see the phone. Basically they did nothing as a preliminary check, and charge $700 min just to look at it, ie, it would've cost $700 plus a screen if they are honest, and $3300 if they want to rip you.
