- Which bike is faster? A 2023 Yamaha YZ125 or a KTM 125SX? Let's find out!
We've been building what we think might be the worlds best 125cc 2 Stroke dirt bike, the 'Minizilla' is a YZ125 that's had the full Hardcore racing treatment. The bike is a fully race tuned rocket ship which a big list of upgrades and modifications. To find out how good the bike truly is we're putting the head to head against it's biggest competition, a race ready KTM 125! We've drafted in a true two stroke prodigy to complete the test, and i think you'll guys will agree that Wal Beaney is a real 125cc savage! :-)

That YZ sounds really strong. There's something about a very well set up 2T that just sounds different. Its like a hard but fairly high pitched thump. You don't hear it much outside factory race bikes but this has it.
Thats a heck of a piece of work for a 125cc.
both bikes were great ,but mini has a lot of punch out the corner, and that suspension looks lush, 👌👌

I'm a ktm 125 guy, have been since 2003, I've owned a yam in that time but always gone back to the ktm.
Just from watching this vid you can very clearly hear how potent that yam is, i reckon if i was ther track side the hairs on my arms wouldve been standing on end.

I'd take that YZ over the KTM any day!! The YZ sounds much crisper and the fact that a pro rider gained almost a full second on a bike that's not set up for him and he's not used to says it all. Nice work Roland!!

So the not really any comparison the yz isn't a 125 with the long stroke rod it's a 150
I love Japanese 2 Strokes. I still Race a Honda CR 125, I would have the Minizilla

This bike needs the early 90s YZs rear brake housing protector with the "YZ" cutout. That would
complete it very nicely.

Another banger from yall, i would most likely choose the YZ in my garage since thats what ive grown up with. Not saying i wouldnt like the KTM, i love KTM but Yamaha just has a special place in my heart.

I’m all respect to that younger 😮 !!! What a rider !! 😊 his ktm seems phenomenal , don’t get me wrong but wow even he’s saying that the YZ IS A “BEAST“ 😂😂 I’d rather have his sx 125 in all honesty but that only because of the way it whipped out nicely over all the jumps and didn’t seem to play about too much. It was perfect handling there throughout ,
The yz 😮 well … the power slide just looked amazing and he ripped the wheel up a few times and it looks really aggressive. Also he mentions the bottom end being there for him aswell !! It’s for the pro’s to play with Im thinking and it’s had a serious load of extras to make it the machine it is today !!! We’ll done all round. I’m really happy I watched this video tho. I’ll always be a true fan guys. !!! Keep sending ❤ from wales 🏴

I just bought a 23 ktm 125 sx as a fun alternative to my tricked out 21 crf450r , these bikes are fun . But even with the new mapping KTM put out on the 125 just recently it has random bogs up jump faces, ive shit myself more times in three weeks riding the 125 than in the last 10 years riding 450s hahah, if any one has any ideas im all ears!

id say a stock ktm would beat a stock yz but with those upgrades, 250fs would have their work cut out for them. that yz is a B E A S T

The starting point doesn't get much better than the latest gen YZ. Awesome tuning work tbf. It's insane how well the YZ handles in stock form. KTM are in front in standard power but their stock uspension is questionable. Put the YZ in our garage any day of the week 😊

Definitely want to see him ride the YZ! Great video, awesome 125's. Quick question I have a 00 YZ 250 and Im looking for a kickstart lever. Do you know of a place that I can find one or any other kickstart levers that will work for it? Mine is a 20mm spline. Any knowledge would be greatly apprieciated. In 02 they went to a 18mm spline and that is all I can really find. Thank you and keep the videos coming.
Look for a local Broaching Company and see if they can re-broach a newer kickstarter to a 20mm size if you can’t find a replacement 20mm.

The YZ 125 is one of the most beautiful sounds going as i remember r kids in the early 80s could be heard from miles around the mad head was 17 when he got it 12th april 1982 white yamaha YZ125 i remember it well as it arrived on his 17th birthday and he went straight out on it wheelied it and flipped it came straight off the bike was scratched and scraped aaaaarrrgghh not a good thing proper sick note hewas gutted as hewas used to his DT125175 and the YZ125 was much lighter and had powerband on he just wasn't used to the power bless him happy memories

YZ Mini Zilla...is Bad Ass, for sure. And with only running stock suspension.
YZ's have the best stock suspension little Zillia 😆 Would love to see a show down between a YZ 300 w/ big bore kit vs KTM 300 SX granted only a few mod's can be made on the KTM but i think there is a real future if they made a Husky/ KTM 360cc that would be the ultimate weapon.

KTM ouch. Personally, I'm a Honda man.
Mind you if I'm honest It's not me pushing the bike to its limits it's the bike allowing me to find mine.
What fuel is in the bikes?
would a yz125 with only a 144 athena kit and the rest stock lose to this yz125 with this exhaust and cylinder head?
KTM is the big boy on the block with all those 2-turner options.

like, no offense but my rm125 (2004) makes 41hp stock and its doing about 55hp right now, are the newer bikes less powerful because of emissions rules?

Different dynos make different hp figures. Also depends on the temperature, fuel used, jetting etc.
And there is no way a stock rm125 makes 41hp and definitely no chance it's making 55hp! That's the sort of figure the factory 250f's are making and it's also stock 450 power.
Your rm125 will probably be making 32bhp in stock form.

Can you see if you can make a Yamaha DT125R as fast as a YZ on bottom end , I did but only the people that sore it and rode it believe me

Why didnt u use the GoPro time on the Yammie? The YZ sounds better in my opinion "thru my phone", after some suspension work she will be amazing!

You have to pick the Yamaha, they sound the same but the KTM suspension takes too much money to turn it into a stock YZ KYB. Yamaha = bullet proof
