Solo Gold Mining Camping Trip. I Found Twice What I was Expecting!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 сер 2023
- This story begins on day two of a four day prospecting and river camping trip in Alberta. I found 3 locations that I decided were worth setting up to dig, but never really settled in anywhere long enough to get any real hours on the box. For this reason I chose to do just one cleanup for all three locations totaling about 5 hours of dig time. I was pleasantly surprised by the results!
Thanks for watching!

Kyle your videos are just amazing. I’m one of the people that have been watching for almost two years now. Your attention to detail is right on the mark. I love how you think some things through while your filming. I swear there are times I can almost hear the wheels turning in your head!
Your detailed explanations of how you’ve come to the conclusions you make are always much appreciated. Also knowing that your not shy to be openly self critical and point out where you may have made a mistake only serves to increase my confidence in you, knowing that if you discover a mistake,
your just going to make that discovery a part of your presentation. It’s so refreshing in this “post truth” era we live in.
Please keep up with your habit of taking a moment to point out and appreciate the small wonders out in the wild and sharing how they can be every bit as valuable as the gold your after if you only take a moment to notice. It’s very grounding and I think everybody watching likely loves them as much as I do.
Dude you totally deserve to be in that elite small group of individuals that is capable of acquiring more than a gram of gold a day.
You’ve earned it with the quality UA-cam channel you’ve built and shared with all of us watching.
Than you do much!
Wow, thank you for the kind words... Really means a lot!
One of the great things I like about your videos is your minimalist approach to gold mining, your connection with nature and how you find time to appreciate the little nuances of the outdoors. The experience is worth its weight in GOLD !
Thanks! I think it's the beauty of nature that is one of the main things that draws me out into the wilderness, and so I try to show that during these videos as it's about so much more than just the gold.
G’day Kyle, really impressed with the total finds so far. Your channel and content is excellent for all aspects of prospecting and education.
Can’t wait for part 2.
Keep up the awesome work mate.
Cheers 🍻🍻🍻🇦🇺
Much appreciated!
Great approach to go from prospecting to mining. A lot to consider even for a small operation. Nice job. Great production.
Thanks!
Great time out there fam. What a blast. Keep on having fun getting that Au and living the dream. Gold Squad Out 🤠
Thanks!
Great Job. I didn’t even realize your Chanel exploded as it has. You truly do deserve it. I for one look forward to each and every one of your videos and adventures. Come to Colorado and let’s dig!
Thank you so much! One of these days I'll have to do a big road trip....
Great job & design on your high banker ,handy unit compact.
Thank You for taking me along on your trip and explaining how you experienced things.
ALWAYS enjoyable. 2nd best UA-cam channel on the planet - I don't care that your Subscribers don't watch , I sure as f... do
I’m glad you’re still saving top spot for me Mo😁
@@piratescrew1869 Yup , it' all about YOU James
suggestion? install a flip gate in upper header box to retain clumps and clays longer...work it with hands or tool until broken down, flip then repeat. you wont have to install larger screen at all
I love your hard work, I can watch it, well... as long as you record it (at 4X speed!).
BTW, good timing on the video, you split it up well and it had a good length. Also, sharing your thought processes, and well as your 'cold beans under a bridge' philosophizing are great.
No name Turkey goes down quite well with a cold PBR….. this trip looked really fun 😃✌️
You have good taste for fine dining delicacies! :)
As always Kyle, I really appreciate your attention to detail and willingness to try out new techniques and highbanker modifications.. The filming and editing is excellent. grats on the gold. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks!!
What I feel is a big driver for you was the mat testing videos and your scientific approach. I'm a big fan of those and even more importantly, feeling a kinship with your past personal difficulties...and afterward living vicariously in your moments of beauty, like when you described the enjoyment of the sound of the rain out on the river. I'm so happy for your success, which I hope will keep growing exponentially.
Thank you very much! That rain was really nice... I'm glad the sentiment came though in the video.
Right on brother. I've been watching you're channel for olmost 3 years I believe and I'm still just as entertained as ever. Thanks brother
Awesome! Thank you!
What a great little machine,it's a lot like the little machine I put together,I'm going to start working on the double layer sluice, that's a great idea for a small packable highbanker
That's cool! It's fun building new equipment to try out!
Wow there's a whole lot of gold moving about those river systems.
I’ve watched a ton of Gold UA-cam channels. You’ve become a favorite. I like the nature shots and the fact you are truly hitting it hard and trying to earn some ok money while having fun doing it. When you live vicariously through UA-cam, it’s much more enjoyable to see something executed to the end and not just panning, and think what if… good luck 🍀👍
Wow, thank you! Kind words... I'm glad these are entertaining to live vicariously through, I'm just happy right now to have the chance to get out and try my best while I still can!
Excellent video, moral of this story for me was utmost excellence…lol…nah…it was you just chilling doing your thing..jumping spot to spot, going with the flow, not overdoing the panning and just rolling some rocks. Awesome results. Killing it. Peace, love to you and yours, let’s f’goooooo!!!
Thanks man!
Wooo wooo video before work!!! Thank you Kyle!!!!
You're welcome!!
Very nice and very well deserved for the level of your contribution!
Great video bud
Hope the description is actually good enough to picture cause you seem to work a lot of ground like this where its organics, hardly any stones and rocks.. Maybe you should try a traditional style grizzly bar system with a twist, well, a curve actually lol if you were to have a curved (full 90°) set of bars with a pivot point at the middle, all the organics would collect on that and then you could simply flip it over to dump it all out (hopefully anyway 😂) but you'd keep what you have set up now, it'd be just in front of your punch plates and in theory should keep most of the organics from letting water come over the back and would attach via a rod so it's easy to add/take away. Would also be good for clay
Thanks for the inspiration. Keep up the good work!
Wow!! When did you explode?? So freaking happy for you. I knew you'd become successful. Your detail and numbers, calm attitude and positivity have always been amazing. Just got married and getting caught up on my favorite channels. I wish you so much success!
Thanks! The channel really took off with a couple shorts that were released earlier this year. Not sure how many of those short subscribers are here for the long content as well, but I definitely appreciate the new growth and interest in the channel!
Congratulations on getting married man!!
Great vids man, I've lived in Banff since 2002 & am def westward bound to line up a couple claims & get on the gold myself. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us!
Your shows are great your approach and thought into process and analysis of results is awesome, constant adaptation for better more effective efficient fun finding gold
Great job nice gold and heavy pans
It's easy to get too cute looking for the high grade material on the hunt for fine/ flour gold spots at surface. I am definitely guilty of this. I think a simple rule would be that if you get 'good' test pans across and along the length of a defined pay streak, start going hard. The test pans only need to be good, they don't need to be great. The highest grade spots are rare, and take up precious trip days to find. The bread and butter needs to be average to decent spots, and I find that calibrating my goals and expectations around that works best. Otherwise, it's too easy to get disappointed. If during the process of working a mediocre spot hard, you hit a great paystreak, then that's a bonus. Enjoying your videos, adventures and gear designs Kyle, keep doing things your way!
Yeah, I think you have a good approach going there!
You can tell this Guy 'gets it'.
That’s a proper pile of gold Kyle!
If you keep doing the same thing over and over you won’t learn nearly as much as testing and trying new stuff! Great video and looking forward to seeing part 2! Cheers mate 👍👍
Thanks James! Yeah, I think just focus on whatever drives you to learn new things and the chance of doing better the next time out just keeps going up. I'm going to be starting out at ZERO knowledge when I start doing this in Australia... Probably have to throw out half of what I thought I knew about gold down under :)
@@UtmostOutdoors as long as you’re out there you’ve won half the battle! You’ll do great I predict! 👍👍
great catch =)
Maybe one solution is to dump each test pan into a flour sieve (about 40 mesh or so). Then, count colors by approximate mesh size in 2 separate pans. If 50 % of your gold is +40 mesh, it will certainly weigh heavier than the 100-200 mesh gold. Or, pick a different mesh size, whatever would be relevant for Alberta flour gold (could be 30, 40, 50 or 60 mesh). Mesh size is probably the best proxy for weight for fine / flour gold that is quite thin due to travel.
Hum... That's an interesting idea. I keep hoping I'll just get a better "eye" for it one day... haha.
Bravo mon ami très belle vidéo..🤩..et très bien commentée comme toujours..continue comme ça..😊😊..salutations de France..!!!
Merci!
Gotta see a closeup of all that shiny going into old Crown Royal!
Next week 😀
👍 Life is Wonderful 👍
Yes indeed!
Nice build that high banker.I'm building a spade dredge with a double blade for less back pain.
A "spade dredge" ? That sounds really cool! Is that sort of like a mini bucket line dredge but scaled down to be transportable?
@@UtmostOutdoors yes with 2'' pipe instead of the shaft halfway the adjustable venturi and weld the shorted shaft back on.all stainless steel of course
let's go let's go treasure✌👵
Lower part of the hb looks good but the hopper needs a major overhaul, except for the spray bar, that is good. But remove all matting at the top, it's just in the way really, then instead of the square grizzly make a proper grizzly bar with just aluminium or stainless rods. Then you won't have to put your hand in the hopper and remove material that get's stuck there.
I agree that grizzly bars would help with the organics sliding out, but I like the hopper moss, it actually catches a significant enough amount of gold to seem worth keeping in there. Perhaps independently adjustable angles on the screen area vs the hopper to keep material moving correctly without removing the hopper moss...
@@UtmostOutdoors the thing is you have two spots to clean, it's not necessary. You won't loose anything by removing it, the moss and riffles will catch everything in the bottom sluice.
super - ciao~📢
If you Know you're going to be there, stock-pile the material that's further away, Before you start your machine 🧐‼️
Maybe it should be used a design of a washing machine that spins?🕵️👁️🕵️
😮😮
Forgot to be methodical in the prospecting ?. shovel wide shallow trenches panning every 2 feet of the trench . trench perpendicular to the river coarse about 8-10 ft apart to zero in the streak was what I used to do then gut the gravy . That organic debris can be a pain . For the most part when I willow dug the gold wasn't worth the effort . Trying out gopher holing I notice . hahaha just saw the drawn picture One wonders what goof drew that hahahaha. Kyle you honor me and you honor your audience with great videos
Thanks Bart!
What size classification do you use for Alberta flour gold
For panning I prefer a 12 mesh. I use 20 mesh for cleanups. This highbanker uses stainless mesh with 3/16" holes.
Willow branch rake handle repair + 99 cents of electrical tape changes everything.
Pocket knives and willow branches make everything better!
That looks like cat food 🙂
So do you sell this slus as a unit slus pump and tubeing?
I just made this as a one-off prototype to test some of my ideas. I'm hoping to dial it in a bit more and then maybe make a few for sale this fall if people are interested...
I also like to know,im curious what you were looking at in 25:46 in the video as i even looked 👀what ahh it was a gooder😂😂😂😂
Haha, I was probably just ignoring the camera and just looking down the gravel bar at the paystreak :)
Awesome video bro good wook hey where a guy get a unit like this id like to buy one
It's a home built unit. I might try and improve it a bit more and see if anyone want to buy one from me this fall... Otherwise, lots of other highbankers available from various other companies out there.
Why dont you sleep on your boat. Looks like you could sleep down the middle. Id feel a little more safe and secure with aluminum sides rather than nylon sides. Throw a tarp over it a no worries about the weather.
I have camped on the boat before and it's not bad! It's just a bit tricky to keep mosquitos out of a tarp setup compared to just zipping myself into the tent.
Why dont you just walk down the creeks and pick up the nuggets?
Next time I accidentally stub my toe on a gold nugget, I'll be sure to pick it up!
