Ya que, aunque suene triste, Iván se muestra con gran miedo en la pintura, no sólo por la muerte de su hijo, si no lo que esto significaba para su reino, su dinastía y su herencia al poder, por haber matado a su único heredero hombre "cuerdo". Se dice que Iván, de manera torpe y desesperada, trató de detener el flujo de sangre con su mano, pero fue en vano.
