Consistently among the best guitar content on UA-cam. JJ isn't going to hold your hand for hour long lessons or spend ten minutes "This is how you tune your guitar" but he always picks great songs and gives you plenty to work with. Even though I'm mediocre at best I always seem to pick up something from his videos that helps me. Thanks for what you do!
I'll put on a James James video in the TV to learn a new song and my wife hears the guitar in the video and yells out and asks if its me playing ... I always answer 'Yep, its me wailing away !!" LOL. Keep rocking James, love the lessons !!
Talk about being in the zone !!!! GEEZ 😲 so amazing….. I bet Jimmy Page himself would say “ holy shit that was awesome “ I love watching you play , probably the most inspirational thing I’ve ever seen in my life , thank you.
I wanted to tell you how much I appreciated your Rikki Don’t Loose That Number video! Very easy to see and hear what your playing - I may actually learn that and play/sing at an open mic! ;)
Some of the strumming Jimmy does on the original song, especially at the end is almost Pinball Wizardy. Amazing song! I think it got left out of Led Zeppelin III cause Jimmy didn’t like the lyrics being about the «street corner girl». Shame tho. Would have fitted in perfectly🤘
@@jamesjames9275 That's where I heard it existed. I managed to tape most of it from a progressive FM station. Late 70s or so. Remember trying to figure it out in F & C on my 50s acoustic Gibson F hole that my uncle from Nashville let me have.....if I would learn to play it. Still have it.
I never understood that because it was played on my local FM station a lot. It was a potential hit single for them. But Hey, Hey What can I do? Nothing! I just listen to it! A nice short, catchy, acoustic number but they never put it out like a single. I always liked it! Very strange!
@@jamesjames9275 Love it! :) Late 70's (I was underage) my local pub had a jukebox with 'E4A': 'Immigrant Song b/w 'E4B' Hey Hey What can I do' . I spent many of my youthful 10pence pieces pumping the Jukebox, playing this over and over while honing my pool skills and upping my beer tolerance. It was likely the most popular tune on the Juke - a Zep b side! I seem to recall 2nd most popular might have been Boz Scaggs - Lido Shuffle . Happy days, thanks for reminding me. Off to (re)learn this classic now.
These chords sound dead-on to me as half-step down tuning, to the standard version. Whatever that is, the opening riff always starts with A shape at 2nd (barre A). Makes it easier to stretch to play that riff.
I took a first stab at this song tonight, I found with my 12-string down a half-step, as I usually have it by default, it sounds pretty spot-on to the standard version. It didn't sound dissonant or off-key, to my ears. Which is a good thing, since I figured I'd get frustrated if it didn't match. I have terrible trouble, due to small fingers, stretching to play riffs sometimes, but luckily this one is only going from 2nd-3rd fret or so. Nick Drake I'm not. But I did ok. It definitely sounded like Pagey. At least my version.
I believe Jimmy is not playing a C#m in the four-chord walk down before the choruses. Rather, he plays an E in the same position (fourth fret) as a C#m. It’s like an open-C shape barre chord, just on the first 4 strings. His pinky stays off the third string in the live performance you cite. Cheers
What would have been absolutely hilarious (for me any way) would have been to wear the same red T-shirt as PT and then wait to see if anyone notices-lol!
James James, you mention slowing down the tape. If this is the case, were the lyrics then added to the slowed down track? What do you think? Thanks for the video. One of my favorite Zeppelin songs as well.
What kind/size of strings do you play ? I love your Hummingbird so much I had to get myself an Epiphone version. It sounds pretty dang good for what it is. 😊
It’s interesting to debate whether they tuned down or slowed the tape. I believe they tuned down because the tuning was slightly more haphazard before Jimmy got the Conn strobe tuner. Even on the records, it’s still a little off the cuff tuning wise. For instance, if you listen to the multi-tracks of “Ramble On” you can actually hear Page tune the electric guitar on the fly to the acoustic rhythm track that he is about to overdub onto.. incredible! I think he got the Conn in later ‘70 or in ‘71...before that, they would just tune to Robert’s harmonica or Jonesy’s organ (John Paul Jones’s organ-what about that, come on!) for the live shows. Just a thought...can’t prove anything, but this is my train of thought for why I think they actually tuned to whatever for the original recording.
@@jamesjames9275 I watched the 1995 live video again a few times, it looks like Pagey is playing that D with hammering on and off G string at 2nd fret, rather than the E string 2nd. If you watch carefully, that appears to be what he's doing. I thought it was wrong too, but apparently not.

Best acoustic Zeppelin song for sure
My favorite is Bron Y Aur Stomp...But this one is one of the best for sure
I like your shirt, and your guitar
Your theory is correct.
Always the best. Thanks
As always JJ great lesson and your playing spot on . ✌🏻
Just awesome JJ keep the zeppelin stuff coming.

Amazing lesson! Thank you! :)
Awesome
Man you are great at teaching music
I watched that lesson a long time ago! You can hear it slow down in the cymbals!
your leasons are great. nice to hear you oerform
Playin along on my SJ 200 deluxe
An old favourite and great video. I've been jamming on it since the weekend thanks to a privattricker video!
its beautiful song
Another addition to the set list.
I sure do miss James James. I hope he and Mrs James are doing well

YES that it TY
thank you for doing it in AAAAAAA!!!! :)
In the old video you said “it’s not exactly Paganini.” Great line. Made me laugh.
I remember that as the albumless song. It was hard to find.
I still have the 45 single of Immigrant Song with this on the B-side.

Detroit 95’ P & P tour...I was at this show (You can hear me screaming like a school girl at the end there)
Phenomenal show and tutorial dude ! Thx 🙏
Seen them in Glasgow on that tour.
Extra bonus - The black crowes opened for them...Being a massive fan of theirs ,it sure was a great, great night .👍🏻
pretty guitar man
Wow. I've only been playing it in G-and incorrectly-since 1977. Thanks. Gotta go unlearn my old way and do it correctly. Good job.

Always outstanding i. Is your Gibson 200 your favorite acoustic guitar ?
Hey James, you're the best guitar channel on youtube. You ever consider doing For Your Life? Most underrated Zeppelin riff IMO
Ty ya private tricker.
Damn, I thought this was on the vinyl that I had back in the 80’s. Am I wrong?
Great cover btw!
👍
One of the guitars in the track I am certain is in open g, that’s how i play it
Hey, what can I do while sheltering in place besides making awesome music videos!!

Craig Hollabaugh Vocal doesn’t sound slowed to me. Bonzo’s drums/cymbals absolutely sound slowed.

never clicked so fast lol
Same T-shirt as the Waterloo lesson. Proof he actually has worn a T-shirt twice.
Almost the same chord progression as "The Weight" right before the chorus👍
I think it’s down a quarter step to match the album to match the slow down recording
Hello
On D chord you don’t take of the E string finger, but the G string finger
Huh?
James James You don’t take off
James James On D chord, you take off a G string instead a high E string
@@jamesjames9275 I watched the 1995 live video again a few times, it looks like Pagey is playing that D with hammering on and off G string at 2nd fret, rather than

I gotta watch those finger licking moves at .25 speed
If it helps, I posted a separate lesson on how to play it.
i think its just tuned in 435Hz
A too high to sing tho :(
It’s not in the key of A. It’s lower than that.
It's half-step down at least from standard tuning.
