As I close my eyes and hear your rendition of Raag Hemant's Alap (for umpteenth time), I am reminded of the 'soft undulations of water on a peaceful lake - in constant but subtle motion'. In those 50 minutes of rendition lies the spirit of Khan Saheb, every phrase is reminiscent of him. You seem to have passed the test after-all.

As for passing the test, the really lucky thing in music (and I guess in all of life), is that after you pass one, there's another just around the corner, providing a challenge during the next practice session, concert, lesson and recording. In the "old days", the music was always live :))

Hi Ken. I remember that concert in the Mozes en Aaron Church in Amsterdam. You managed to keep smiling while Khansahib took an unusually long amount of time to fix his string. I am still convinced he broke it deliberately. God Bless.
