@Mack Hannon Is this some kind of renegade marketing for red bull? Stop talking about red bull and bunny hops, that was THE fucking biggest tube Pete nabbed.
@Mack Hannon a pretty good argument could be made that Kai wouldn’t be able to push the limits like he has without the backing of those companies. Just on natural talent alone, he could work a day job on Maui and be a world class charger at Jaws. But he’s trying to, and has, taken wave riding to different realms. Don’t buy the boardies or energy drinks if you’re not into it, but hating on the guy like that? A bit much if ya ask me, but I’m not at the spots he surfs and can’t really speak on the vibes, so who knows? Great ride by Pete, who I’m sure is good friends with Kai
OMG, this is everything, however, best off all might just be the moment when he sits on his board and just takes in the moment of what just happened. Live in the moment. Amazing
Still watching this pretty much every day since it was uploaded. It doesn't ever seem to get old. So many factors had to come together perfectly to make this wave so damn special: swell, wind, tide, the uniqueness of Mavericks. Best of all is that Pete Mel, with his deep knowledge of this spot from decades spent surfing it, is probably one of the only people that could have actually pulled this beauty of a wave off. Think of how many like this one have rolled through unridden because no one was in quite the right position. Think of how many waves like it have been attempted only to end in an elevator drop to the bottom because the would-be-rider was just a little too late, or just a little too deep, or because the board didn't work well enough. People have DIED there, or come close, just to get a shot at a wave as perfect as this one. Pete got just about everything right, and now us mortals get to vicariously experience a tiny piece of the enjoyment he must have felt as a result of the countless hours he's put in at Mavericks. Just that part of it alone is a beautiful thing. This is the kind of shit life is all about. This is why I love surfing. TLDR: DUUUDE HE GOT SOOOO PITTED BRAH YEWWWW
Possibly the coolest 3 mins of surfing ever caught on video. From the most epic, perfect and beautiful wave ever seen in Mavs to his 'moment' quietly absorbing the ride to the crowd going crazy and Jamie knocking him off the board out of genuine stoke for his friend. Just incredible.
@@ianwalton284 disagreed! Tow in is surfing as well, you get a totally different line, you can explore the wave much better . The thing is that with such small heavy board you can never paddle in, so you need the ski of course. It’s a different way of surfing, and Kai Lenny and Chumbo can tow in and surf a giant wave doing maneuvers like on a small wave, which you don’t get by paddling with such big boards, but it’s definitely surfing.
If anyone deserves it, Peter Mel, “The Condor” does. I can’t think of anybody better and more deserving for that beautiful wave then Peter. In credible wave of the year wave of the winter Northern California or Hawaii where ever the wave of the winter he won.
