JUST presented my second box as an Xmas gift (1st box was for Mum’s birthday in October) and again, sooo blown away with the pics and pockets. He didn’t even know explosion boxes were a thing!!! Thanks again!! Xx
THANK YOU>>>>THANK YOU>>>>THANK YOU!!!!!!!! I watch a TON of crafting videos and you are BY FAR the most organized, easy to follow and most creative!!! As a retired primary Elementary teacher (35yrs+), I would have LOVED this project as gifts for my young students! As it is, my grands (all under 6yrs) will be getting their FIRST (but not last - hahah) for Valentine's Day...my close friends, after that...I've been saving to buy a Maker, (since my two other crickets are so old), and this makes me save harder! Thanks again SOOO much and THANK YOU FOR SHARING!
I made one of these for my mum for Mother’s Day. I put photos of us and quotes she says on the cards. She absolutely loved it!! It made her cry but in a good way! Thank you for such a clear guide x
Jennifer this was so much fun. You are very good with giving great directions and that makes it so much easier. I am so excited to give it to my niece on Valentine's Day. Thank you.
made 2 other versions of this a year or so ago. It was so fun, time consuming, since all of it was done by hand, but it was worth it. Will try this one as well, and will be using the Cricut for the first time around with this project.
I have been looking for this every since i saw it online. But it was for sale for the box already made on etsy I wanted to make it myself I wished and wished and wished that Jennifer maker would make this valentines Explosion box and wa-la. Here it is .. thank you so much. You never let me down!

I wonder how small magnets might work to keep some of the notecards closed? This is such a great idea for pictures, sentiments, gift cards! You have so much real estate to play with!
Thank you Jennifer! I just finished making one for a friend and will do one more for my son's fiancee. Directions were excellent, and it is beautiful, even with one-sided card stock. I just have to add the extras in the pockets, and a nice bow. Thanks again!
I love this. I have made three of the large boxes...to put candy in. My daycare clients will love it. I am putting a photo on each of the places where a note goes. all but one..where the kiddos can tell their parents how much they are loved.
I just finished making this and it's gorgeous. I will post on your FB group soon. Just have to figure out what I'm doing with all the white cards - am I stamping stuff or cutting pictures to fit. But I have to tell you that you are an engineering genius, and your tutorial, especially with those tricky folds, saved my life a few times during the assembly process. I did learn in the process that picking four sheets of card stock that looked good if the boxes were stacked and using those, reversing for the base and top, made it easier to find complimentary card stock for the insides, reversing those too. I hope that makes sense. Anyhow, thank you so much for this amazing file.
Ok so I showed it to my daughter and she wants to make it for her boyfriend. He is in the Marines because of COVID he can’t come home because we are a red state for COVID. Now he was told that he wouldn’t get leave to try again for at least 10 or more months. He is very home sick! She said mom I can put little notes, pictures and stuff in it so when he’s down it could open it and open something to put a smile on his face! She sending him a care package with some stuff from home think she is right will be a perfect add in!
She is done! It’s so cute! Now she just has to add her personal notes, pictures, jokes, ect.. She picked all her own papers! Thank you so much for the template. Took pictures not sure how I can send them for you to see. Everything cut perfectly and fit together wonderfully.
Yes, if you sized this down to fit on a Joy, your box would only be 1.5" -- and it would likely be too difficult to fold all of the little pockets and notes and actually fit them in.
I made the box Jennifer. It was fun to do. I bought a sampler package and it turned out well. Thank you for this project. I agree with liquid tacky glue.
This would make a great box to give to a bride for a shower gift ! I hope to make one for my daughter getting married this summer and can write words of love and encouragement on the notes!
Adorable! You always show the best step by step tutorials!!! Thank you for being such an awesome teacher for those of us who wouldn't know the 1st thing about being crafty 😉
I'm trying to make this project. When I upload the SVG file I get an error message saying I need to change the size. Once I delete the layer with the text saying to view the tutorial, I am able to upload the project. However, I am getting many extra layers that aren't in the project. Also, the scoring blade isn't working. Any suggestions? Thanks!
They warn you about falling down UA-cam rabbit holes but this is ridiculous!! 😂🤣. Thank you for sharing this technique. I love seeing the explosion boxes but seems so complex. I see it just takes time. You made it simple. I appreciate your videos all the time.
Such a creative lady, and your instructions are so clear to understand, and well organized with templates etc. Love this and thank you so very much for sharing this lovely project.
Just wanted to ask if we can make the design public in design space once we have made the project? I did not want to post it unless you gave the ok. I have now made several of these boxes and they are a huge hit with everyone who receives them.
I noticed that as well. It actually set to cut instead of score increasing the number of pages. I’m new to cricut and really excited to make this box. Please help!😬
Apparently design space had update after this template was made. Look at Jennifer’s response below to TW where she links a tutorial to how to make score lines and link them to the cut template. Good luck! I will working on this for the first time today.🤞🏾
Hi Patty, this is something fairly new with Design Space. My projects that have score layers are not importing correctly into Design Space anymore. They are now cut layers. While on your canvas you need to change them from cut to score and then reattach them to their base. This blog post will help with that: jennifermaker.com/cricut-scoring-tools-tips/ 💗
Hi Jennifer, I am trying to download the exploding heart file but I'm having a problem next week is my husband 60th B-day and I would love to have it done before then Thanks
Hi Jennifer, I made one of these, but it had 10 or 12 boxes all together, I thought I downloaded the cut file but can not find it, now I see you have a 4 layer one. I would like to make the bigger one, is there any way of getting the cut file again?
Absolutely love how this turned out, it was my first big Cricut project, and I'm so excited to give it to my partner for valentines day. im even making my dog one and will stick little treats in the pockets for her. these would make amazing xmas gifts for that hard to buy for person that has everything. Jennifer you are amazing
What a great project, my crafty littlest Granddaughter (11) is going to love getting this! Thanks for the file and the inspiration! First tutorial of yours I've watched, it's simple and to the point, excellent! Patti
This is soooo cute!!! My son is planning how to propose to his girlfriend and when I saw this I sent it to him with several ideas of how to use it - he loved it and asked me to make it - not sure if he’ll use it for the proposal or something else. I honestly thought it would take a lot longer to make, but it came together really fast and looked great. Already sent it off to him 💜
That is awesome, Dawn! We get a lot of questions about what you can put into the boxes - now we have an answer! "Engagement rings!" 😂 I'm happy you found it easier to create than you thought it would and you loved it! Hope his girlfriend loves it, too! 😍
@@JenniferMaker one of the ideas we had was putting reasons he lives her on all the notes. We also didn’t glue the boxes together as he may do 3 reasons and 1 clue to where the next box is, the last box would have a clue to where he is, with the ring. Either way it’s a great keepsake 💜
Hi I love this design. I just have a question you said you said the lines for score already on the design but when I download it to design space everything was basic cut I don’t know which lines are supposed to be scored. Can you please help with that?
We recently discovered that something happened on the back end at Cricut to cause our SVG files to not import into Design Space with the score layer attached correctly. We do have a blog post that I think will be helpful. You can find it here: jennifermaker.com/cricut-scoring-tools-tips/
Love all the little note card shapes. I can see using them in greeting cards, little notes in lunch boxes or as gift tags too!!!! Would love to see you do a file with just fun little foldup notes.
Okay so I have this downloaded and already on to a on design space and even changed the lines to score lines but now when I click make it the score lines are separated and even when I try to attach them I can't with out ungrouping the individual box and then spend hours trying to put them back in order because when they are together originally and I click attach it attaches all the pieces.
Design Space will sometimes resize patterns on iPads/iPhones, for some unexplainable reason! All you need to do with this SVG is to select the stacked pattern on your canvas and resize it to 11.5" x 11.5" ! All will be well!
As always, great video with clear instructions, thorough explanations and lists of materials needed, tips and tricks, happiness and joy, etc.!! Can't wait to try this! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this! It was a lot of fun, and even as a beginner I was able to do it. It also fits a chocolate orange or raspberry perfectly in the center box!
What are the dimensions of the little note cards? I'm wondering if it would be possible to glue on pictures instead? Also would gift cards fit in the pouches of the first couple boxes? I'm trying to figure out what exactly I can fill this thing with since my SO isn't in to love notes so much 😂😅
At the start of this tutorial I thought there's no way I can do this now I'm feeling confident, thanks for explaining so well and providing the pattern ❤️
Hi Jennifer, I just watched this tutorial and I believe I can actually make this!!! I love how you explain everything in detail. I want to make one for my husband for his birthday in a few weeks. Do you have a template for a birthday cake to put in center of the box?
Hi Jennifer - are you able to recommend a glue for making projects like this? I’ve tried a few but want to know what you consider to be he best one. Hopefully, it’ll be available to buy in the UK. Thank you 😊
I used Aleene's Tacky Glue for this project, Karen! I don't know if it's available in the UK or not, but I hope so! We have a link in our blog post, below! People in our Facebook group have also recommended a product called Art Glitter Glue for cardstock (there is no glitter in it, that's just what it's called!) that you can also get on Amazon! Hot glue will also work - what it comes down to is experimenting on your part! What works for me, may not be to your liking, so feel free to try different glues that are easy for you to buy!!! 😍 jennifermaker.com/heart-explosion-box-template/
thank you Jennifer for this awesome file. I have a silhouette cutting machine and when I cut these out the scoring lines are not scoring lines but rather cut lines and I have a mess here. I Neve r had a problem before, can you help me to see how I can get the score (dash) lines please
You have absolutely out done yourself on this one! I love, love love explosion boxes. I made some for Christmas about 5 years ago (before I had a Cricut) and of course before you made it so much easier! Thank you, thank you thank you for this amazing project! Hugs from Texas!
Hi Jennifer, I Love this heart explosion box, do we need to readjust the size. Cause mines want come out like yours, they are way to small compare to yours... Box 1 red is measuring on the mat 8x8 Thanks for all your help
Sometimes iPhones and iPads will resize our files, even though we don't want them to, LaVonne! When you bring the SVG into Design Space, before you do anything else, change the size to 11.5" x 11.5" in the status bar, or by moving the lower right button with the two arrows on the selection box. If you still need help with resizing, we have a post on our blog about it, here: 😍 jennifermaker.com/resize-svg-files-cricut-design-space/
I love this I am going to make one for a friend... has anyone used patterned card that isnt double sided as i have bought lots of card but none is solid or double sided, just wondering how to combat this.
This was a lot of fun to put together and turned out so pretty! Your tutorial was easy to follow and made it seem simple (although time-consuming of course). Thank you so much! I thought I would let you know that the mat order did not turn out the same for me as in your diagram, even though I never messed with any of the colors. Numbers 8 and 9 were flip-flopped and the same thing happened for numbers 14 and 16. Luckily I caught it before I loaded in the wrong cardstock for those. Afterwards, I attempted to fix the mat order for future use, and boy did I struggle with that. I eventually got it, and now my mat order matches your diagram. I suppose it was a good exercise, but it was painful!
This is super awesome! I’m wondering if you know to cricut those flying surprise butterflies to put in the boxes?! That would be an exciting thing to add in these already outstanding project!!! ❤️
You can upload images, size them to fit on the notecards, then do Print then Cut on them! I recommend you print and cut on sticker paper because then it's just peel and stick -- super easy!
I just downloaded the file and need an SVG for my Cricut. When I uploaded it to my canvas, I received your printed message about needing to add or set the score lines. In your tutorial, you’ve stated you have already done so so I don’t have to do all the work. What am I missing?
Design Space has changed that since this video was made. Here is the way to change the cut lines back to score and attach them. jennifermaker.com/cricut-scoring-tools-tips/
Thank you so very much. I realized I didn’t really read through your blog and the answer was there I only watched your video the first time. I really appreciate your help! I love what I’ve done so far with your item.
So if I don’t have a scoring stylus for my cricut, you mentioned to just cut it as is and not have the scoring stylus on there, but will it cut on the scoring lines if I leave the standard blade in? Just wondering :)
This is so adorable. I highly recommend getting the scoring stylus, it makes it so much easier and gives a nicer finish.
I totally agree!
Lol koala
@@rachellejones1361 I wonder if you ever figured it out, she said either stylus or wheel in the video! 😂😂

Here is a tutorial that can help with this. jennifermaker.com/cricut-scoring-tools-tips/
When I uploaded it to DS it came in at 3.22 inches. What should I resize it to get it the same size as yours? Thank you🙏🏻
Design Space will sometimes resize patterns on iPads/iPhones, for some unexplainable reason! All you need to do with this SVG is to select the stacked pattern on your canvas and resize it to 11.5" x 11.5" ! All will be well!
I just realized mine is much smaller than yours. I used iOS. Oh well, tiny explosion box is still cute
As always, great video with clear instructions, thorough explanations and lists of materials needed, tips and tricks, happiness and joy, etc.!! Can't wait to try this! Thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for this! It was a lot of fun, and even as a beginner I was able to do it. It also fits a chocolate orange or raspberry perfectly in the center box!
Great job!
@@JenniferMaker all my score lines are showing up as cut lines and i am not sure how to fix it
@@SamHam88 mine is doing the same thing. I'm not sure how to fix it either and I was looking forward to making this. Did you ever figure it out?
Thank you for all of your amazing projects and tutorials!!!
You are so welcome! 💜
What are the dimensions of the little note cards? I'm wondering if it would be possible to glue on pictures instead?
Also would gift cards fit in the pouches of the first couple boxes?
I'm trying to figure out what exactly I can fill this thing with since my SO isn't in to love notes so much 😂😅
Check in your layers panel. You can only have 2 layers selected in order to slice. No more, no less.
You said in the beginning to use a standard grip mat, but when cutting it looks like you used a light grip. Which one should be used?
You can use either one for this project. :)
@@JenniferMaker awesome, thank you
Hi Jennifer, does the paper have to be 12x12?
Some do to keep the same size.
At the start of this tutorial I thought there's no way I can do this now I'm feeling confident, thanks for explaining so well and providing the pattern ❤️
Glad I could help, Alicia! Yes, you CAN do this and will be SO thrilled at your result! 😍
Nice Tutorial of the Explosion Box, 4 layers and the 4 lids. Thank you for sharing.
You're SO welcome! 😍
Hi Jennifer, I just watched this tutorial and I believe I can actually make this!!! I love how you explain everything in detail. I want to make one for my husband for his birthday in a few weeks. Do you have a template for a birthday cake to put in center of the box?
I love this! What a meaningful gift for my teen granddaughters. Thank you!
That's wonderful! I'm sure she will love it! 😃💜
First of all this is absolutely beautiful! What are your suggestions to write in each note?
Anything you'd like! Memories, poems, photos, really anything you'd like to add! ❤️
I am going to write in our shared memories and photos.

would it work if i have card stock that is decorative on one side and white on the other side of it.
Yes. You can put the white on the inside or the outside of the box. It's your choice. 😊
@@JenniferMaker thank you for your response
thank you Jennifer for this awesome file. I have a silhouette cutting machine and when I cut these out the scoring lines are not scoring lines but rather cut lines and I have a mess here. I Neve r had a problem before, can you help me to see how I can get the score (dash) lines please
Have you checked out our Facebook group? We have Silhouette users in there I'm sure would be happy to help answer that for you. 😊
@@JenniferMaker no I haven’t will look at that thanks much
For some reason my score lines come up on black mats. It also doesn't let me attach the score line and cut that goes with it.
Can this be done with one sided card stock? If so, what extra steps would be needed? I apologize but I’m SUPER new to Cricut. TIA
Nvm. I re-listened and think I understand 🤦🏾♀️ Lol
Glad you got it! 😊
You have absolutely out done yourself on this one! I love, love love explosion boxes. I made some for Christmas about 5 years ago (before I had a Cricut) and of course before you made it so much easier! Thank you, thank you thank you for this amazing project! Hugs from Texas!
Thank you, Renee! I'm happy you love it - I do, too! 😍
Thanks for this wonderful file and great tutorial!
You're very welcome!
Hi Jennifer, I Love this heart explosion box, do we need to readjust the size. Cause mines want come out like yours, they are way to small compare to yours...
Box 1 red is measuring on the mat 8x8
Thanks for all your help
Sometimes iPhones and iPads will resize our files, even though we don't want them to, LaVonne! When you bring the SVG into Design Space, before you do anything else, change the size to 11.5" x 11.5" in the status bar, or by moving the lower right button with the two arrows on the selection box. If you still need help with resizing, we have a post on our blog about it, here: 😍

@@JenniferMaker thank you, cause I did try it on my iPhone and iPad...
I love all your tutorial, they have taught me so much
Thank you again
Hello, greetings from Caribbean, I just made it but when I opened the scoring option was like cutting, but hopefully I understood 😝.
Hello! You can change the cut lines to score in the operations menu. Thanks for watching!😊🌻
i'm going to try and make an explosion box for my boyfriend i watched about 9 vids and think this one helps me the most🥰thank u keep it up!!!
Thank you SO much! 😊
So cute!
Thank you, Kathy!!
Thank you for sharing so many patterns! ❤️
You are so welcome!
I love this I am going to make one for a friend... has anyone used patterned card that isnt double sided as i have bought lots of card but none is solid or double sided, just wondering how to combat this.
You could alternate between cutting the pieces pattern or white side up. 😊
Hi where do you get the card packs from please?
All of my materials are linked in my blog post 💗
Sometimes learning can be painful. I'm glad you got it! 😃
I can’t wait to do this for my granddaughters birthday thank you for making it so easy
You are so welcome!
I got the file but what are there measurements if you don't have cricut and I'm using scissors?
The PDF files are already sized for you to print and cut out.
Gurrrll you are so creative and smart. Dang this is cool.
LOL! I'm glad you think so, Kathleen! 😍
This is super awesome! I’m wondering if you know to cricut those flying surprise butterflies to put in the boxes?! That would be an exciting thing to add in these already outstanding project!!! ❤️
That would be cool!
@@JenniferMaker Putting one of those surprise flying butterflies in the smallest box would be awesome as well! 🥰💜✨
The kind that winds up with a rubber band.😅🦋✨
How would you attach photos to this? Or is this more for notes?
You can upload images, size them to fit on the notecards, then do Print then Cut on them! I recommend you print and cut on sticker paper because then it's just peel and stick -- super easy!
@@JenniferMaker perfect! Thank you!
Is it possible to just use the 1 outside box lid, so all layers fall open at once?
Yes, you can make it that way.
Can’t wait to try
You totally should! They're SO much fun to make!
So if I don’t have a scoring stylus for my cricut, you mentioned to just cut it as is and not have the scoring stylus on there, but will it cut on the scoring lines if I leave the standard blade in? Just wondering :)
You can just hide the scoring lines by clicking on the eye in the layers panel to hide them and it will not cut it.
@@JenniferMaker Oh my goodness thank you so much! I'm so excited to make this!
