What a great haul you got! Dark Crystal - scared me as a kid in the theater. But films that were scary as children really meant something to most later on. It was like a window into an adult world. The Hitcher was totally before its time - if it released today it would heralded as a classic. You hit the nail on the head - the psychological horror is greater than the visceral gore. Rutger Hauer is amazing as a personification of evil. As far as movies with nudity - the 80’s playground was conference of boys passing on the information about which movies did show skin and when to watch for it 🤣. Lastly I had to comment on Paris Texas - it’s my FAVORITE film ever. When you mentioned it I truly paused. It’s soul crushing and I love it. I have it on VHS and blu-ray. I even bought the book with the original script. I will stop here because I can’t add anything to what you say. Best movie ever. You have impeccable taste and I look forward to seeing whatever you do for the new year.
I saw pulp Fiction on opening night in Brideport Connecticut. I got there 45 minutes early to get the exact seat I wanted. One other person was in the theater. By the time the movie started it was packed. People were lighting up joints, smoking and drinking beer. It was like being in a dive bar at midnight.
These movie choices are all in my wheelhouse! Loved The Hitcher! I saw the remark because I loved the original: that was a mistake. I’m gonna pick that one up!
did you see the Jim Henson exhibit at OMSI back when omsi was by the zoo? I was really young it was incredible, i loved that location. All those movies are amazing. The Hitcher is such an underrated perfect film. His motivation is "stop me".
Thanks for your video content, humorous delivery (intended or not) and great tastes in music/movies this year. For what it’s worth this 52yr old saddo from England is looking forward to more of your spills and thrills in 2025! Much appreciation and love (good old fashioned manly hand shake and bear hug type love - no wokey weirdness from me)!
Time does fuck with you. I’ve recently been thinking that because I didn’t have children, it feels like my life has just been one long year. My brother and sister had kids and it feels like they had time markers watching their children grow up to remind them time is passing. Viscerally. Anyway, just a thought your video commentary brought to mind. Thank you!
I hear you 100%. Both my sister and brother have two kids a piece, and I chose to not have any. Nothing I regret, but I suppose when you grow older without these things it makes time more surreal.
I just watched No Country again in 4K - such a great movie!!
