I'd followed him all season and he'd had a good one, but he owned the Cup Carnival in 79. Talk about being at the top of your game! And this was in an era of multiple top flight pacers.
This was another great cup. I used to try to get to Addington on the 2nd Tuesday in November and I saw 7 in the 70s and early 80s. It is a long trip from Sydney. Like a lot of NZ horses we did not see the best of them in Australia and Lord Module and Robalan were two of these. However even though it is forty years ago I will never forget Young Quinn's Miracle Mile win.
Thanks for this race Ian. What a great race and would never have given Lord module any hope of winning given his poor start and good to see Rocky Tryax one of my old favourites from Hutt Park. Cheers
How to make a top class field look second rate within a matter of about 14 seconds. Lord Module was one of the greatest horses to race in Australasia in my opinion, when his mind was on the job. His win in the Allan Matson FFA in 1981 considering who he beat and how he did it was one of the most electrifying race wins.
Absolute superb drive from Cecil Devine to end up in the one one on Lord Module after Greg Robinson & Rondel broke up. Once let down at the top of the straight Lord Module showed what a great horse it was to win comfortably, but looking at it now it appears Lord Module didn't appreciate the whip and was very lucky it didn't go into a break. I have noticed that there were 2 scratchings from this race, Roydon Scott and Locarno, now that would have been a wonderful NZ Cup if they had started, they were 2 high class horses. Thanks Ian for the upload.
I noticed that in some of his other wins. Cec Devine seemed a bit reluctant to hit him with the whip - example of that the Allan Matson Free For All in 1981, Lord Module finished like a tornado down the outside but I don't think he was hit with the whip once.
Was there that day. Of course Ces Devine caused Greg Robinson to break, hence the enquiry. Saw Max Robinson after the race and he was ropeable, had Ces knock whip right out of his hand. Like dogem cars but what a win it was regardless, one for the ages.

I’ve listened and watched this race so many times, was only 11 at the time but still get goose bumps today.

THe 70's was a magic time for pacing/trotting fans in NZ.

What a neat video, my Grandfather was the owner of Majestic Charger :)

So have i. It's just mesmerising to see what Lord module in the new Zealand cup of 1979
He was a buggar of a horse ,but when he went He went !
He was an enigma. Maybe that's why he was so popular.
Not what you would call reliable but when his mind was on the job one of the most exciting pacers ever.
What I really meant to say was how mesmerising it was to watch what Lord module did.
He could raise the hairs on your neck, he had freakish ability
still gives me a buzz .had the pleasure of cleaning up his dung and brushing this horse .what a beast
