This takes me back! Thank you so much! That was a real blast from the past that I wasn't expecting to find, it's hard to believe this game is 25 years old - I think it's aged well.
I had an N64, parents thought a Playstation was too edgy, but I played Podracer on N64 for hundreds of hours. If I had a PS I would've hoped I had gotten this game, it looks terrific.
Was playing this on a big ass TV and saw the pixels were the size of sugar cubes. I never thought the PS1 would look that antiquated even on a 4-foot wide TV damn
I don’t want to be pedantic buuuut we’re still not quite there just yet. We’re very very close, though. The main things that stands out to me are the shadows, lighting and lack of any aliasing whatsoever. Even back then, pre-rendered shadows and lighting effects looked better than real time shadows now. Real time Ray Tracing is likely going to change that though, since that’s what they were using to make that intro to begin with lol
Oh wow. Thank you so much for uploading this. I’ve been trying for such a long time to remember the name of this game. I used to love playing it all the time with friends after work. Love all the music that goes with it too. Total blast from the past ❤
I distincly remember, whenever the voice said "mine" (at least I assume that's why he's supposed to be saying) I always heard him saying "Lyle" or "Lyle Trial"
It's still nice to see that this game is still ahead of time. Wonder when we will have racer jets like that in the future. We're getting close to have "The Matrix" technology. Games like this is so facinating and makes the future so exciting.
@@purwantiallan5089 Oh yeah! LOL! That intro! I never really noticed the red bull in the intro, I mean I did, but it didn't really click to me as a product back then, maybe cuz it wasn't as popular as it is now. Man, I love Wipeout! Now I play it on my Odin and RP3+. Thank God for emulation! ^_^
Wipeout was the first game i ve played on the Playstation and i first recognized that the game was THREE DIMENSIONAL compared to other games played before in other consoles. It is a very futuristic game.
Prodigy being attached to a lot of the music in the Wipeout series was so massive to me...was two of the biggest things I loved as a kid coming together in a way i didnt imagine was even possible
I didnt remember they used music from prodigy :D and I do recall the other track from somewhere else... forgot the name. Great nostalgia :) Childhood right here !
back then, no brands wanted to put adverts in videogames. And getting proper musicians (Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, etc) to agree to put their music in a videogame was totally unheard of. Wipeout was really ahead of its time and broke new ground. Also, the copious amount of adverts covered up the limited hardware's draw distances!
Looks great! Never played this wipEout'...seems I missed out. Will have to check it out sometime. Thanks for sharing! Great video quality! I subscribed!
Learnt something new today. I was wondering if Wipeout XL was some kind of updated version of Wipeout 2097 on the PS1 but nope, it's just different names for different countries. I was only aware of it being called Wipeout 2097.
Man, I wish you young cats could get the full effect of coming from playing Super Nintendo 2D graphics to this. My friend was the first kid of the block to get a PlayStation. Wipeout was the first game he got. His parents had a 40 inch tv at the time which was HUGE back in those days. They also had a surround sound system. Seeing and playing this in that setup was mind blowing!!!!
ah yes.. the good old days where you needed actuall skill to kick copious amounts of ass :) still one of my alltime favorite games ever. the music, and especially the voices in game are awesome!
I loved this game as a kid! 😍 And just now I came to think of it, after seeing the FPV acrobatics of the DJI Neo. There are some here on YT that can demonstrate the capacity of it, and it’s super beginner friendly too. So I’ve ordered it, and I’m gonna get the FPV package, because taking Whipeout (kinda) to irl is gonna be super fun!
One of the absolute first games i ever played on the ps1, i remember those redbull logos so vividly with the firestarter song on odessa keys, holy nostalgia man...........
Wow. I used to play this game a lot! I think one of the missiles was the termination missile and it was so satisfying to wipeout a competitor with. I'd hold onto it until I got the perfect kill opportunity.
So F-Zero didn't happen then? Don't get me wrong - this is a really nice game but the N64 update of the original SNES F-Zero blows this out of the water.
crazy how we used to play games like this where textured literally load as u go 😂 and we loved it. crazy how far we have come in definition but not in creativity
Just came here from watching the new FAST RMX game on Switch, reminded me of playing this in a nightclub off my face. Can't believe this is 29 years old - were games really as advanced as this back then, wow, PSONE really did change gaming. The soundtrack, Fluke - Atom Bomb, Future Sound Of London - we have explosives. Unreal, tunes we were raving too, I think this was one of the first games to use actual real life tunes (maybe FIFA did first for their menus).

What a time to live in: watching a screencapture of a twenty year old Playstation game, on my Samsung tablet. Too cool
Twenty-*three* years old, at that
Straight outta 1996 😊

One of the first ever video games I played. My older brother had a PS1. Man, the 90s. So long ago!
Ren Hazuki also had a PS1 console on her house as well.
