One of the best organisation hacks I „invented“ for myself years before having my adhd diagnosis is hanging shirts. I hang every damn shirt in my closet, so I don‘t have to fold anything.
I put the wet shirts on a hanger on a rail and hang them in my closet when they are dry. Also, decluttering really changed my life.

Inviting someone over to my house will always get me motivated to clean, tell I'm overwhelmed and having a nervous breakdown.

S.M.A.R.T., in order to achieve your goals, they must be Specific, Measurable, Actionable, that you are Responsible for, and Time-bound. Doubly so for people with ADHD. I'd also add generally people with ADHD don't lack motivation, we sit there constantly wanting to do things, dreaming big and making plans, filling to do lists that eventually become graveyards- it's activation we lack because of our executive dysfunction.

I am currently doing well after giving myself permission to spend only 5 minutes on a task, and any task that I have the mental and physical energy to handle on any given day. This reduces my anxiety and actually feels like a game - what area am I going to attack today? Usually, I work on it for at least a half hour. And often, I pick up where I left off the previous day. For example, gather up a pile of paper and sort into file, shred, recycle, put in "action" file. Next day I look at action stuff and write stuff in my schedule. Next day,I shred. Next day, I begin to file (least favorite part) and check my schedule for something to take action on (often something that has become urgent. ) I have someone I text everyday with a before and after photo and brief summary of what I did. This means that I feel accountable, and I have a record for myself of what I did all week. I need to keep things as simple as possible or I become paralyzed with anxiety, self hatred, overwhelm, etc. I also play games, like what can I clean up in the 3 minutes my water is heating up in the microwave for making coffee. Or what's the fastest shower I can take, and actually be clean? (The current record is 5 minutes!) 😅

    I'm a 🐞 LADYBUG.
Marie Kondo is HORRIBLE FOR ADHD!
Timer is one of my best ideas.
Clear containers but not for everything, LABELS🤩, large bins to THROW things in like panties, bras etc. for lady bugs. I am NOT folding things with ADHD.

I love the konmari folding for my clothes. I can see everything at once.

@@malindarayallen I now fold in half lengthways then roll my clothes. You don't get to see the graphics on most tshirts, but it's super quick and is the same idea of having everything in visible in one layer.

Can you share how to make your storage visually appealing while still functional? I use clear bins and need to keep things out as well (out of sight out of mind.) But my IKEA shelf looks like a dumping ground and yours looks like art.

Honestly, bookshelves and those little carts. If your mind wants a wall to be blank, leave it blank (no shelf, storage, furniture, etc). Otherwise, we need shelves so just put the shelves. Clear them out on weekly cleaning day (Saturday ams for me, pick a day for you and just keep it forever). A few solid hours where we're allowed breaks to "play" in between, get distractd to clean that other thing, move the laundry, change the playlist, etc, is huge for getting it done and happiness.
Hooks everywhere piles develop is also a game changer. All the other fancy stuff is person-specific imo. We've got this, ADHD friends!

  • @adhderhere

The interesting and cool thing about Cas is that she understands us because she is an ADHDer herself. What could be better and more ADHD friendly than a system or method created by an ADHDer?
I don't do decluttering following Marie Kondo's method, because not every useful and needed item is gonna spark joy... the thing that I find that may work about Konmari is file-folding clothes. It's so visual, but the big problem with it is that it's hard to maintain and it adds an extra step to tidying up clothes, and my brain tends to avoid that completely.
If I can hang most of my clothes and have very little to fold, I do better at keeping it organized. Plus, everything is at sight when I need to find something, and it's so easy to put clothes away

I've tried under the bed storage and that doesn't work for me. It's because I can't see it. My husband wanted a bed skirt and that hides it. So, I say we need new bedsheets, but only because they are hidden under the bed. I guess maybe if the bed skirt wasn't there. I don't know
