I don't wanna sound mean but, I really don't like listening to Nixxiom talk about the game, despite have spent so many years with it, it feels like he has absolutely bizarre and unreasonable expectations of where the game should go and what it needs, completely coloured by his nostalgia and preference for RP. He seems like a really nice dude tho.

I don't understand why they can't keep a few servers with each expansion.
Just have three versions of classic:
1. Vanilla
2. TBC
3. Wrath
Then reset the servers every 2nd year or something like that. Then the servers would be recurring, people could always jump in to play their favorite version. And the economy on the servers will be not be going crazy because the servers will only last maximum 2 years.
Literally 1 PvE and 1 PvP server on NA and EU each, for each expansion. 4 total servers. they act like it would be a big deal to support things they already have done successfully.
They could also make the classic versions f2p would kill alot of private servers and they would get some people to try retail

Classic Vanilla was a nostalgic trip of giant proportions.
Classic TBC was the best fucking Powergaming-Gear-amassing-Alt-leveling-Fiesta. Somy many people played all the way trough to WOTLK without getting bored. Gear progression was awesome.
this is such an L take, I don’t think you remember when everyone quit WOTLK in ph1 because we only had Naxx for 4 damn months, and shitty VOA and Sarth 3D and EOE, don’t even get me started on how bad Ulduar was when you had it on farm after 1 week and had to keep going back even in ICC to craft Valynr’s for the DPS classes on the raid team, and most guilds got absolutely GUTTED in togc then fell apart when they couldn’t clear heroic ICC, like do you even remember WOTLK 😭😭😭

TBC and wrath had huge sub drops though compared to classic.
Tbc & wrath didn't even get their own servers, because they weren't able to hold up the subs enough to be worth it.
Your experience was probably great, thats good. But in blizz eyes they weren't very lucrative.

Liked cata more than wrath in the day, and it holds true today. Cata is like a better version of wrath. Sorry if you disagree but nah I’m not, I don’t care. Cata is great still.

Cataclysm and wrath are extremely similar. Cata feels like a more polished and complete version of wrath and isnt ruined by having a phase 1 thats not just a rehashed raid that's a snoozefest.
Ye Wrath is alot more similar to Cata, than it is to tbc. And Cata is alot more similar to wrath, than to anything that released afterwards.
Genuin take, i think Wrath players just hate Cata so much, they wanna call it retail or anythign else, like "non classic" because they wanna distanc themselves from it.
While Cata is just an upgrade gameplay wise.
I always thought Blizzard would stop at WotLK, then restart at Vanilla and loop them every 2 years in a compact release schedule.

@@holyflygon Because Cata and beyond is WoW 2, not classic. I quit early Cata, only came back for first tier of MoP then left forever. Wouldn't call those the glory days, as they actively drove me away from the game.
People are still on cooldown from playing vanilla. We aren’t ready yet. We had classic, hardcore, som, era and SoD… just give it a rest for a while or it won’t feel special.

I definitely enjoyed Cata more then Wrath, but enjoyed the story more in Wrath. That's up until that fight on Deathwings back broke me and I had to take a break until WoD.
Ya the deathwing fight was horrible , just let us fight a dragon, and not have to fight 20 tentacles and blood slimes.

End game for Blizz needs to be 3 categories of WoW. 1) Classic Vanilla (includes Hardcore/SSF) 0-60 unchanged with fresh server resets every year or so and possibly events semi regularly. 2) Classic + being something in-between Retail and Vanilla, think Cata but if it was the first expansion instead of 3rd. No Outlands/Northrend, no flying, but updated Kalimdor/Eastern Kingdoms. Updated talent trees/abilities, flex raid system, Normal and Heroic Dungeons/Raids, Arena/RBG's and Cata/MoP BG pool. Not necessarily exactly like Cata, but it's a good base to start with. 3) Retail...just how it is (or plans to be).

I don't get people trying to figure out whats "Classic". Classic just means re-release in Blizzard's terminology. "Cataclysm has never been considered Classic" - by whom? You can open your WoW folder, Cata folder is literally called "classic". Classic only means it's an old expansion launched again.

I agree. Having to pay for Zygor should already be against TOS in my opinion, and now they are blatantly advertising through content creators. Its obnoxious, and the addon itself is not necessary. I have no problem with addon creators being supported through stuff like donations, but I feel like this has gone beyond that. Nixxiom's ad makes it seem like more of a business than a fan made addon.

@@hellboy19991 I doubt having a demo/free version will over ride the fact that you still have to pay for the addon. I think when you pay for it under the terms of the addon it's considered a donations to support the project and that's how they get away with it. Same with restedxp, though I don't see no problems with people selling their addons for WoW, they put in the time and expertise to make it and keep it updated so it doesn't break.

The Idea of a Fresh Classic or TBC Server is great. I tried to play on a Classic Server, only GDKPS, Boosts. You want to buy t1 Items? no problem 400g Buy, how should i do this when just start on the Realm.
I think the ‘classic debate’ is semantic and a bit boring. Blizzard are using the ‘classic’ suffix just like Everquest used Legacy as a prefix/suffix.
Its just a way to try out previous expansions.
What the video says could work if theres enough players.

Cata has always been the cutoff because you no longer have the classic world in it. How different the game is is another question, but removing the classic world was just cutting content out.

So just go to ur era servers and they are just as dead as in wrath and u wont even feel a diffrence, the chance that u find a player is probably even higher on classic era

I moved back to private servers BECAUSE blizzard took away TBC servers. Blizzard lost my patronage.
I find it enjoyable to level through the RDF. I know my class better by the time I got to 85, verses leveling from 1-80 in Wrath only doing 4 dungeons, took a little longer to get a feel for my class in a dungeon group setting.
Feel like you called this correctly Guzu. It's not negative to question if this would work, if there would be enough interest, and Nixx saying "so many people want this"... well of course people want everything, but would they play it? No.
Also you have to admire his take... "Give us a free server", but "remove any opportunity for Blizzard to make money". While I don't enjoy the cash grabs, he certainly doesn't make it attractive for Blizzard to release servers with limited player appeal.
I feel like I am going in harder that Guzu here, but I also wanted to question other parts of this video. "Classic is vanilla, tbc, wrath" stated as a fact. I can say that most people who played original Vanilla consider anything over level 60 as no longer Classic, his opinion might be that Classic is 60 to 80, but it's far from fact.
Let's say that there is significant demand for tbc and wrath servers. Let's stretch it further and say that even with no profit opportunities for Blizzard, there might be players who only sub to these servers and otherwise would not be on WoW... that's a big stretch... but even if that was true, let's look at the bigger picture. Season of Discovery is crashing at the minute because the devs are simply too busy with Cata. Cata itself has had problems, and let's not even mention retail. Blizzard have slashed more and more staff from all areas of the business, and all areas of WoW. It's blatant that devs are overstretched and are struggling to manage the current workload. Nixx wants to increase that work load and has the audacity to say "it's a big mistake" to not do... I get he has to attract clicks, but he has thrown up a brick with every aspect of this video.
I played Cata only really to do the hard heroics and the glory of the hero achievement, but the heroics are way undertuned and the glory meta achievement have half the achievements bugged and unobtainable, what a mess.
Id like to see a vanilla thru cata cycle tbh. After cata there wasn't much change to the world so Mists and beyond can still be experienced in its entirety. Would be neat if blizz would merge the classic database with retail, merge the characters, and then start us fresh vanilla again
Simple way to have best of both worlds. Have a feature like plunderstorm where there's different game versions on character selection for each of the expansions. Then once you reach 60 you can copy, not transfer but copy to the next xpac and so on. That way you can do endgame on whatever xpac you want. Sure some may be more dead than others, but classic era is basically already dead, this just allows more variety. It'd be all of "classic" I one package. Imagine being in a guild that raids in all eras, I'm sure they'd exist
i understood the classic vanilla scene because so many missed it the first time but if you have multiple classics and HC and SOD then that says a lot about your current product, which is not good.
Classic was up to TBC, WOTLK killed wow with the overpowered DK's.
Addons, wow token, and in game stores are the issues with wow across all versions. And making more legacy servers would be terrible by spreading the community out even more.
I think a fresh vanilla server that wipes once a year would be better honestly, the community is so much faster paced and this would keep things fresh constantly
Ascension spends like 9 months on vanilla then 9 months on TBC and repeats. They're working on WOTLK too. Private servers are the future tbh.

It would be a good idea, but in implementation, not so much. There is a lot of upkeep for server-switching code, and it could potentially break every time they release a patch for Cata. It's a nice idea in theory, but it's definitely far too gamer-pilled. And then demanding no microtransactions? Like yeah, I get it - microtransactions suck ass. But you expect Blizzard to do all this special coding and extra work with no way to monetize it? Yeah, okay buddy.
For me I got pretty burnt out playing classic vanilla raiding up to Naxx on several characters, little bit of ranking etc. So when TBC came I just wasn't in the mood to play. But I might want to play that expansion at some point. I think they should eventually do a couple of fresh TBC and Wrath servers, let people play their fill and then move onto the next expansion when they're ready. It seems off that they don't have at least one server for each expansion.
I somewhat agree that cataclysm isn’t “classic”, but the idea that it is in the same group as retail is also wrong. I think wow expansions are a spectrum. I think, for example, WOTLK is way more like cataclysm than it is vanilla. The idea that suddenly after WOTLK it becomes like retail is just a bit silly. Cataclysm is kind of a weird in-between stage.
What's a classic car? It needs to be a particular amount of years old. Essentially, anything old would be classic. People might not agree on what is old now but almost anything becomes classic in time. Classic is not original. It's older.

Private servers have been running with vanilla, tbc, wotlk, cata, mop at the same time and still been somewhat populated.
Just having atleast 1 server running for each expansion is not alot at all.
If anything, completely removing the possibility of tbc and wotlk when going over to the next is insanity.

SOD is dead because blizzard released cata and pandaria remix and split the ppl. If they add classic tbc and wotlk they will split it even more and we will have even more dead server. Not to mention pvp servers will a nightmare, imagine you transfer at 58 and someone destroy you with SL gear. Nah, i will pass.
It was the same at the tbc time... if you started to level up late or was leveling an alt after entering outland you had to face some strong lvl 70's for pvp

Having TBC and Wrath era servers is a net positive. It'll disrupt the entire system (aka, split the populations) for a brief moment until it finds its new equilibrium again after 2-3 months. I'm not currently paying for a subscription, but tbc era servers would bring me back. The thing is, we don't have reliable data on how many people genuinely want tbc (or wrath) era servers. There is no official poll for it, nor has any poll reached most of the player base, yet it really seems like there is a resurgence of tbc being wanted, much like how the dead classic era servers came back to life after being empty for a while. From what I've seen, any people who publicly want tbc era server gets attacked by people saying how they are somehow wrong in wanting them (as if that's any of their fucking business) - and that only serves to obfuscate the real picture. All of the era servers (pve, pvp, rp, rp-pvp, even hc) would have enough players to keep them alive in an official realm setting, even though you some of the might remain in the low pop bracket. It makes zero business sense not to have those realms up and running. In the end, what counts is subscription revenue, and having era servers will only net increase that.
Blizzard is a multi billion dollar company they can afford 2 more era realms and some people to cover it. I doesn’t matter how many versions there are everyone is just raiding logging after a couple weeks anyway. Giving people more options to play the version of wow they most enjoy is always a huge W
I'm not sure if having servers for each expansion is a lot or not. Only the Dev's can answer that. I think as long as their are players that will populate those servers, maybe it's worth it. I doubt I would play on those servers. I do have some SoD toons, but honestly I am more into retail WoW. I've experienced all those stories...

I lost all respect for Nixxiom when he made a video about how no one cares about Cata Classic. He includes footage of the announcement at Blizzcon but edits it in a way so that it appears the crowd is dead silent when the initial announcement was made on stage (if you watched the event, it was met with thunderous applause). Straight up deceit to support his own laughably wrong opinion.
Classic dev team is having tons of problems keeping up with SoD and Cata at the same time, don't think we should be asking them for TBC and Wotlk too. Thats just asking for trouble
I think it could work if there was only 1 realm on each or maybe 1 pve realm 1 PvP realm because there will still be people playing them but by keeping the amounts of realms minimal you'd still have people to play with and it's a cool concept, I'd do it once or twice for sure
No it won't, blizzard don't have the funding. The classic team is not able to do SoD and Cata at the same time why do we think they can do 2 more expansions. They had to completely abandon sod for a month because of the troubled Cata launch. I'd rather they focus on what they have going atm and make that actually good instead of spreading out more

There will never be tbc or wrath servers not enough population would stay to make it worthwhile. Funding the servers would be a sinkhole, also it would be a ghost town and even if it would work blizzard would never take away from their current creation. (cata)

Before classic the "community" swore things like the dungeon finder tool ruined the game and more then half way through wrath and even early TBC ppl had conversations on a LFD tool for leveling. @@holyflygon I've only been playing for a few years, SOD drew me back in so truthfully I'm not sure but I would hate to see this game fall apart. Coming from RuneScape, OSRS, SWTOR, Retail Shadowlands(which was confusing since I arrived to Azeroth kinda late), ESO and FF14, I played Classic and fell in love. I just want the game to not fall apart. It's my favorite MMORPG now 🥲

Bliz would be smart to emulate the Eq TLP template. Roll out fresh servers, beinging with vanilla and progressing through each expansion along a time locked rate. It has been a Very profitable model to date
There are people who want to play these versions and y'all are acting like "sPL1t ThUh plAyeR BaySE", rather than forcing people into expacs or versions they would rather not play, and then those people drop their subs and go to private servers anyway. Blizzard could provide 4 servers per expac, 1 PvE and 1 PvP on NA and EU, they have already done them successfully, and just run the cadence every three years and then flush them fresh or something. Minimal management resources, and people would get to play what they want to play. Don't sit there and talk about "NoBoDy pLayEd wRatH" because there WERE people playing it, they just might not have been raiders. Simply because they didn't meet your definition doesn't mean they are not people playing it. Not to mention they were spread thin across many servers, and this would be a couple of servers to bring them all together.

Multibillion dollar company stretched too thin. These words just don't compute with me. There's more than enough subs for each era to have at least 1 dedicated server to each expansion. They just want ppl to play retail and it obvious.
I would say NO to everything Nixx said. If they bring back another classic server should only be the Vanilla version with plus content added through 1-60 content. Something like Turtle_wow has done.

Man, if you're so stuck on classic like this you really need to find another hobby. Blizzard doesn't care about your comfort game, they care about making more money than they spend.
I'm already fatigued from WoW again. SoD P3 basically ended all interest I have in WoW. Personally I like TBC expac best, but even if they announced TBC era servers I probably wouldn't come back for that, at least not for a year or 2.
As a sysadmin who deploys and maintains servers professionally, and who also develops on open source wow servers in my free time I can tell you: opening any number of era servers does not put any strain at all on blizzard personnel. Blizzard, despite their many failings, have basically perfected in-house cloud infrastructure. It takes 2-3 hours to set up an era server and then 2 hours per year to keep it running. The larger problem would be the launcher and the clients, because they probably have some interest in keeping the code base unified, so that would be the point where they'd have costs.
The server side is incredibly easy.
This guy talked about this for 15 minutes without an argument. He doesn’t consider for a second that maybe Blizzard thought about it and decided it was a bad idea. Because it IS a bad idea. Dividing a community in 3 is bad. People’s in game friends are a big reason why they stick around and play. You’ll remove these bonds by having different people choose different expos. You got your nostalgia…now you can move on or go to a custom server.
Personally, I think to be able to get transmog gear from older content you should have to group up to raid it level sync you and lower your stats to pre raid bis. Edit* also in order to do the dungeons and raids to get the content you should have to actually travel there and enter the dungeon and raid on "exploratory" mode or something like that to get more people out in the world even create achievements and mounts that can drop in the dungeons and raids that are new.
You could even do this for retail and just delete all transmog files for characters and have them collect it this way.
cata holds still the ''classic'' feeling tbh. Sure, the world changed, but the system is still the same. From Legion( Artifact system and traits etc) and onward is the Retail

I played wow in the classic launch because I'm a nostalgic and when vanilla came out I didn't have the opportunity to play it. I have played before the Pandarian and BFA expansions no more than 7 months, I am not a hardcore player, I just wanted to play a good game at that time. So I subscribe again to classic and I made a troll hunter (Procto) and I get the opportunity to join a guild 'La familia', cool discord, nices talks, cool people, At that time, when TBC came, I has to chose to stay in classic or to migrate to TBC. I don't like TBC but I like WOTLK, I've play it in a private server back in the days, but all the guild migrated, and a couple of month later I quit the game. I remember blizzard closed those Vanilla servers because not enough population. But if you like 'Vanilla' play with those who want to play Vanilla, but if those that who did not want to pay a subscription to play it, then is become a 10 or something players in a server, and blizzard will shut down that thing. Vanilla privates servers became popular after TBC because people wanted to play the game for free. Maybe that is the answer. If not, they are trying to figure it out witch expansion deserve a server.

I guess I'm on the opposite side of this. I liked Vanilla and Wrath the most. TBC was ok...to me it wasn't as fun as the other two. But, I quit playing in Cata because I disliked the changes. It wasn't the same fun game I enjoyed. Cata was the beginning of the end of the game for me. Wrath is still my most favorite version of the game.
I just can't play Cataclysm. Even the first time around I hated it, I think it's a good idea to have one or two servers of each.

bruv just close on of the few cata servers that have less than 500 pop and give a tbc and wotlk era server for each of the "main" regions, 1 EU 1 NA and we all gucci . thoseservers will explode

Seems like all the comments are from Johnny come lately players. BC was the pinnacle of classic, some think it was wrath. Anything after that isn’t classic.
It is dumb that Blizzard isn't keeping Wrath up. Wrath is the most popular version of WoW with the most private servers hosting it. Servers like Warmane and ChromieCraft probably got a massive spike in players after Blizzard shutting down Wrath servers.

The split at cata is the perfect time for them to add time-walking for questing and dungeons. And then they could share an end-game at level 60? 70? Don’t know the best option but it’s not to continue to make era servers over and over.

I agree Classic = Vanilla everything else was just blizzard adding extra stuff lol they never made it better they always just added other stuff vanilla is goated in my opinion. I think we have plenty of versions of the game to play and dividing the player base any further would be too much and just make things worse.
TBC Private server and WOTLK Private servers are still huuuuge, so think there would be an market, just maybe not a 100 servers

During ICC the servers were almost dead. Cata has sparked interested for many people, even among those who yelled it's the worst expansion.
MoP will do the same for even broader audience.
TBC SoD sounds interesting enough though. Fresh characters need to be lvl 58 from the get-go, and something would needed to be done to the amount of grind.

I feel like "Classic" is the No changes wow. I loved the Wrath changes though. And calling SOD Classic... is super Bs level up raids and having new abilities and things from future wow in post 60 wow.
Cata is more classic than tbc, because its the old world again. It also massively improved story telling.

All they need to do is make fresh classic and add a gimmick like Diablo 3 seasons. Have fast(er- ish) levelling, have some unique mechanic. Fast phases, ie 6 weeks of MC, BWL, AQ40, quadruple drops - and then reset it every year. EASY
technically.... 80 versions of wow could easily be obtained. u only need 160k active players for this. thats 2k players for every version and that is enough. right now they say between 7-8 million people are playing wow again. if this is true, its easily enough for only 10 versions by over 500 times. just dont use 20 servers per version. 1 or 2 is where its at
After Classic was announced and came out Nixxiom has had so many bad takes in his videos I've lost count. WoW is killing itself with too many versions at this point. Hardcore should've been seasonal only. SoD is not classic+ but classic-, scrap it. Keep it to Era, Classic and Retail.
classic vanilla wasn't truly classic. It was more different than tbc and wotlk. tbh when it comes to nixxiom and crendor's mind set on this game I ignore it, they haven't truly been a part of the community for almost a decade now. It is what it is, I like them and their videos but yea that's just about it.
