Romans 14 tells us to embrace fellow brides of Christ that are not like minded.

A good example to look to is Bishop Robert Baron. His weekly sermon is on you tube.

Removing the distinction between preaching and teaching is absolutely spot on. My mentor taught me the importance of doing both. It allows the sermon a time to not only be a moment of proclamation but also you are teaching people how to read the Bible in a christological and sacramental way.

Read in prayer and read in the context of the church meaning not in isolation from those who have gone before.

    Hello Father Petersen !!

Good analysis, Dave. I have a particular bug about this whole "for you" enterprise. It fully discounts the church's normal and normative work. Her worship wherein people are "evangelized" from baptism on.
Its assumptions are borne of Reformed thought, which includes decision theology, and instant conversion. All this apart from the sacraments.
As puritanism always has "for you-ism" runs alongside the church, and competes with it, but is not the church. It is experience dependent.

Could you please elaborate on your point here?

I was in a public university in a different state at the same time as Dr. Petersen and I do remember the gay club just starting on our campus and attacks against the ROTC there as well. This collective horror apparently began nation-wide in the mid to late ‘80s.

If Luther never taught a Bible class (12:55), what are his lectures on the Psalms, Romans, Galatians, Genesis, and Deuteronomy?

      University lectures to theological students.

53:00 thanks for answering Corzine’s question; university lectures on books of the Bible certainly can fall within the genre of a Bible study

@@theLutheran1 That's not what is meant by the term "Bible study". Everyone is going to think "Bible study" means going through Romans on Sunday morning or Wednesday evening with Pastor Schmidt. Luther inherited no such custom of simply teaching the Bible to farmers and tailors and craftsmen outside of the context of a liturgical service. That's what Rev. Petersen means here.

@@HighWideandHandsome why not read through Luther’s lectures on books of the Bible on Sunday mornings and/or Wednesday evenings with farmers and tailors and craftsmen and mechanics?

He’s saying that WHAT Luther did rather than sermon vs Bible study. He always preached as a Bible study
