coming from a 2016 CS 5010 I tried out the new HT (CS) and the TB (CS). Both felt great. TB a bit more pop, felt slightly faster. HT felt more planted & forgiving. Both climbed great much better than my old 5010.

I’ve owned a lot of bikes and the YT Jeffsy is a great bike but heavier and small water bottle, the components that you get with the YT masks the YT bike itself everybody looks at components but don’t look at the actual bike and what engineering went behind it, I recently got the Megatower and for how big the bike feels truly pedals well. Great video but in the long run you get what you pay for and I understand direct brands are cheaper but VPP I think is a lot better then Horst-Link super planted better small bump and better feeling IMO

Biggest bummer with the 2020’s is that throughout the model range they all weight at least 3 lbs more than the 2019’s. A 10% weight penalty over an older design is hard to swallow with today’s tech.

bitumen83 29x2.6 or 27.5x2.8 is the max. With a 29x 2.4 their is plenty of width clearance, but it’s tucked in there.

Secondly, great, detailed information to help me make a decision on a new bike. In my 60's and desire stability without losing the fun factor of riding Boise's and other Western/SW trails. That lower link setup is a mud and stone magnet, and it also requires heavier sections in the frame. Also having the bottom bracket hanging outside the frame triangulation in no mans land also requires heavier sections in the frame to make up for its inherent lower strength. You would find it hard to keep up with xc bike on this because of the 30T granny chainring. Going to larger ones will probably have an adverse effect on pedaling efficiency.

Just sold my 2019’ Stumpjumper Expert Carbon and am looking at the Hightower/Tallboy, SB 130, Pivot Trail 429, and Ibis Ripley/Ripmo. I’m in the Hudson Valley of NY (Across the Hudson from HPN)so same kind of trails you ride. Do you think a ST bike like the Ripley , Trail 429, or Tallboy is all I need? My Stumpjumper was the standard 29’er with 150F/140R, and it was a little sluggish in the tight stuff, but not bad. Will the other mid travel (SB130, Hightower, and Ripmo)bikes pedal and handle quicker than the Stumpjumper or am I better off just going Tallboy, Trail 429, or the Ripley route?

Your comments on the climbing ability were really helpful - I demo'd the Django and loved the way it climbed, the Scott Genius was fantastic but way too pricey. I hesitate between the Bronson and the Hightower, I want a multi-purpose bike, which climbs rather well but with which I can have fun jumping on local spots on weekends, and can make rather enduro and saggy outings. I think the Bronson is more playful, even if I have never tested, but is it also versatile, for climbing it for example

If the geometry fits, have fun and ignore the haters. I’m 6’1” 185lbs and ride a HT C S 29er just fine. I watched you review the XX01 orange HT way back, and same thing with MTByumyum... no one started talking bad till the 2020 came out with the lower link DPS and 10mil more travel, which in my mind pushes the bike more toward DH... next year I’m sure millenials will have found something new to hate about the 2020
