      Ik that’d be my dream to just be able to go out and bike on trails like this, my local trails are trails carved on the side of a coulee that pulls you off the edge and isn’t wide enough to fit your bike so you always hit your pedal on the side

    I remember getting on the Mega and having this weird "way more nimble than it looks" moment. With that signature "feels very small even tho its my size" thing that most Santa Cruz bikes have. I choose the Bronson for the 27.5 and i love it; but on a rewind and having had the change to try before, i'd probably've gone with the 29er Mega. Dope bike. Super fun to ride.

    You now have an S works Enduro - an incredible bike. Specialized showed you that they have amazing customer service, I think either way it's pretty much the same.

    • @RockyPondProductions
      @RockyPondProductions 4 роки тому +5

      That was pretty much luck though and not specialized being nice. It was cheaper for them to give an S works cause they had it on hand vs getting/ordering another version of the other enduro. It's all money based they did not upgrade cause they felt bad.

    • @gregorypatzelt6964
      @gregorypatzelt6964 4 роки тому +4

      @@RockyPondProductions Regardless, in his specific situation - it panned out to have gone with specialized. Perhaps not everyone will get so lucky. For me, I'm debating between a GT Sensor Carbon Pro (lifetime warranty), Specialized Stumpjumper Evo Comp Alloy 29 (lifetime warranty), Santa Cruz 5010 or Tallboy (lifetime warranty), & Evil The Offering MB (3 year warranty). Performance wise I'd love to go with the Evil, but how can you beat lifetime?

    • @RockyPondProductions
      @RockyPondProductions 4 роки тому +1

      @@skeet7244 They will give you an old model or a new model or anything they have lying around that works and it's not cause they feel bad. If they had other frames in house that fit the same specs they would not rush to give the s works out.
      Think of it business wise if they just sent out top of the line frames every time something went wrong they would have a loosing business strategy. It's all based on what the sales rep and the bike shop can get their hands on. Don't go believing that any of these corporations have anything but profit and cost cutting in mind. It was luck to upgrade and from specialized's standpoint they have to regtably eat the cost.

    • @RockyPondProductions
      @RockyPondProductions 4 роки тому +4

      @@gregorypatzelt6964 In my experience be careful with a life time warranty. Depending on the brand and the situation they might have a stipulation where they say life time warranty but "life time of a bike is 3 years". So you effectively get a 3 year warranty.
      Or on the other hand you get this sort of palnned obsolescence where they know they will be changing models and bike styles before your bike is likely to break and then they just say "sorry we would help but we just don't have parts or can't make it work with our current design schemes"
      But realistically most modern bikes are good and you can't go too wrong no matter what.

    • @robmullins1427
      @robmullins1427 4 роки тому +6

      I had to warranty a cracked 2 year old Stumpy frame-received current year and upgraded model. You both may be right to some degree, but what most manufacturers will not do is provide you with a lesser bike or frame when you make a claim. Spesh does a fantastic job on customer service...they have to.

    Nice video. I got the 19 hightower lt. Feels stiff to me too, but fast, and makes gravel out of boulders and big chunk.
    I usually ride a mid travel bike, (130) but wanted something more capable in steeper, rougher trails.
    Evil the offering is next I'd like to demo.

      @@vojtaondrousek2830 I've only ridden the hightower lt. So no experience on nomad. My other bike is a Cannondale bad habit II +. Smooth, quiet , bike. Corners great. Maxxis recon 27.5 x 2.8 . Size XL weighs 31.5 lbs. It jumps great, and all round fun bike.

    • @gr8fulride
      @gr8fulride 4 роки тому +2

      @@deanallan48 sure- my bad habit II was @32 lbs aluminum. 27.5+ x2.8 maxxis recons 34 tooth with 11-46 cassette. 130 mm fork and rear shock. It always feels stable and holds it's line exceptionally well. Is more maneuverable in tighter twisty trails. The cons of bad habit are brakes are not great for long steeps. And the 130 rock shock is pretty easy to overwhelm going down multiple 18 " drops. I am 6'4" 222lbs.
      The hightower lt 150 mm front and back. 30 tooth and a 11x50 . Cassette. Handles speed, drops, chunk, and may not be any faster in climbs, but I've been able to climb a lot more places than the + bike, or my hardtail, with seemingly less effort. It's right at 30 lbs. The bike seems stiffer . It also is a huge confidence booster . I find myself looking for obstacles to see if it will plow over, and mostly it breezes through . Seems to like to go fast and holds speed well.The cons. Rock shock reverb . Takes more energy to get the 29ers rolling even though they are santa cruz reserve. It bucks at lower speeds. So I have to adjust my riding style and back the rebound way down.. I got it from Mike's bikes online and overall a good experience. I bought a bleed kit for the reverb stealth dropper, and a pnw dropper in case I get sick of bleeding the reverb . I put a brand x accend on the Cannondale and it works perfectly everytime even if the trigger is poor quality. I've got a 9.8 dropper on my Marin nail trail 6, and it works excellent also, but needs a small pump if air every few months.

    Seems as expected, north shore stuff seems to favor a trail bike with decent travel, nimble but can still take the drops. Something like a SC Hightower, Trek Remedy, Giant Trance (27.5) or Canyon Spectral would do really well there.

    Wow that $100 rental that goes towards a new bike is amazing.

    I don't know about the bikes man, not in my wheelhouse to compare bikes. I love what I got. But that was some good POV.
    ...However, I did have to Google the Mega Tower.

    I just got a Canyon Torque CF 7.0, Straight of it rides incredible on the downhill, it honestly feels comparable to my DH bike just a lot lighter. But one thing, and it's a massive thing, is that the quality isn't the best from the frame department (yes I get they cut costs somewhere) but the manufacturing of the hardware such as linkage bolts etc just doesn't feel as clean or well made as on my Norco. The bearings they use aren't enduro bearings or a well known quality manufacturer either. All in it's a great bike and feels good, but little flaws like that need addressing to increase longevity, I wish reviewers would talk about things like this.

    I think Santa Cruz should spec the Megatiwer with a 170 Fork and steepen the seat tube angle and this thing would be an enduro machine.

    Do you ride your Enduro in the High or Low setting? I recently switched mine to the High position an find it makes the bike so much more playful and poppy. It also help the steering in tight areas be faster.

    Bikes just get more numb and better at plowing when they get bigger. Guess thats why the megatower is more poppy and fun than the Enduro. Just less fast probably. Don’t get carried away with more travel is always better ;)

      doesn't make sense since it is an 27.5 and cannot be exactly compared.

    • @john-oscaraaserud7653
      @john-oscaraaserud7653 4 роки тому

      yes, that is fair but, he said he didn't focus on the climbing that much but, the Nomad climbs like a monkey and descends like a meteor. and yes it is a 27.5 which makes it more playful, or if you're more about the tech you can make it mullet, if you just have a 29 inch wheel just laying around. like this comment for vancan to see it
