This is one of those "imagine how strong it would be fully grown" scenarios
The orphan is about as old as gherman (so about 100-200 years old)
It continued to stay in its mother's belly even after her death for he was sad,angry and terrified.this raw emotion from the orphan created the nightmare..a place were hunters can suffer for eternity.
Thus it looks like and aged and deformed man once it is finally "born"
Killing the orphan you free not only the hunters and beasts,but also the orphan itself from an eternal torture that can't even be called life.

I'm surprised no one freaked out about how the lightning came from the body on the beach, that was one of the biggest thing that just made me lose my mind, how it seemed to call upon the power of a dead body to fight you...
Arctic the lightning didn't come from the body it came from the sky, it just struck the body and then exploded chaining all over the ground
It starts from the shore.The body doesn't do anything
It does emanate from Kos' body, and spreads in circles around it. You can see that if you stand between the corpse and the sea when the Orphan starts casting.
I'm assuming that the Orphan calls out to its dead mother for help and she rains down lightning to help it.
He wont do the lightning attack if you stay close enough to him or are in the water
I really respect this thing for what it is: the one uncontrollable boss in Bloodborne. In every other bossfight, even in its first phase, once you learn the fight, you can control it, since that's kind of how combat in Bloodborne works. But his second phase is uncontrollable. He's more agile, more damaging, and has greater reach than the player and can't be reliably staggered. His agility and reach makes it very hard to safely parry him. His moveset is massive enough, and contains enough mixups, that predicting his attacks is unreliable at best. And that's why I love fighting him. Overcoming him feels like an achievement every single time, no matter how many times I fight him.
Exactly my experience with him too.
It really does feel like fighting something that's gone berserk, like from this things perspective its essentially existed in stillbirth limbo, and when it finally crawls out to see the horrors of the world for the first time some asshole(us) immediately runs up and starts attacking it. The first phase is the Orphan trying desperately to figure out how to move and attack, while defending itself against a fast and cunning adversary, after sustaining enough damage it's already fragile grip on things snaps. It calls upon whatever strength the Great One's posses, maybe Kos' curse itself, and transforms into a raging atrocity hellbent on killing the player. The entire fight is allegorical to metamorphosis, weak and vulnerable in the early stages, only to emerge as a vastly more capable and hardened organism ready to retaliate against life's hardships.
Fun fact:
Beast Claw. Beast Embrace Rune. Rally potential Runes. Leaping Attack. It has an insane hitbox and can stagger the Orphan if it manages to clip his behind.
tpool94 Teag I am fully aware of the insanity of the Beast's Embrace leaping attack, and I used that strategy against him (kinda) when I fought him on my Beast Claws character. I only jumped when I had a clear shot at his back, but even then the backstabs added up. At least in the first phase.
Thesaurus Rex You can chain backstab in 2nd phase with enough practice. But I see what you're saying tho, I only got the strats down in my 5th fight with him

Bergonath poor bricky, took him some thing like 50 tries and 2 episodes.
Bricky was not only underleveled but using shit weapons, put so much points on skill and streng and used weapons that only benefited of one (like the pimp cane)
The bossfight is broken, because the frame rate sucks (the only boss that when it's attacks the fps drops to 15)and you can't understand nothing.And the hitbox are strange

3boodiman 98 True. But i fought her in NG+ and my damage was low
Maria isn't that hard once you discover that only a few of her attacks have hyper armor, so you can R1 spam for days and she can't do anything unless she decides to do one of her hyper armor moves, which have enough windup that you can parry them pretty effectively. Also, the DLC bosses, interestingly, have only marginally more health in NG+ compared to NG. They only really start to scale in NG++ (probably because they're NG+ difficulty on NG).

Beating this boss was literally the hardest thing I’ve done, in fact it was so hard that when it was close to death I was losing feeling in my legs cause I was so scared about dying. But when I beat him I was so incredibly happy

@Dylan Ashley I find Gael harder then nameless too but I have replayed all of these games a number of time that Nameless is really nothing and that it’s just a test if you can dodge when the attack is gonna hit not when the tell comes. Gael is just straight up harder in all other ways. He also always seems to suck me dry of Estus. So no shame I struggle on Gael more than nameless

Do what you want with your money but you can't bitch about not getting to play amazing exclusives if you're the one that doesn't own the best console (not counting PC). You always have the option of buying a used PS4 and copy of the game if you don't want to support the company. Took me about 9 hours in total the first time around, since I did the dlc blind on NG+6. Nowadays I can beat the boss without taking any damage casually. I think I have Stockholm Syndrome.

After Life Dysfunction That’s easier than you think. Trying to do it at BL4...now THAT is hard. Pretty much every attack one shots you. Lenny uses terrible weapons but he levels himself up so it isn’t too bad.
Everyone else has Maria as their favorite boss, but the Orphan is mine. I've never gotten so pissed, and then been so vindicated by a boss in all my days playing video games.

Kaiyn of Akkad in meh for orphan since he has a tilt on you (for one the fucking lightning) i liked maria because of the premise of hunter vs hunter, i liked ludwig because he blessed me with rng and his cool sword.
Maria is kind of boring after the first few times you fight her, but this guy remains an asshole forever. It's great.
I liked Orphan of Kos too. His design is grossly cool, and I just kept thinking of how cool it'd be to fight like him. Just scream and throw a retractable placenta at people's faces. :-D
Yeah me either. Maria is so Damn easy and her second phase starts waaay too early. I even started the dlc grossly underleveled first time going in. I was level 40. And I still destroyed Maria instantly...
Man I still remember how much trouble this guy gave me, took me days of attempts to finally beat him, one of the most brutally aggressive and unpredictable bosses I've ever fought. I ended up looking up a guide Vaati made on him, which was basically: "Parry all his attacks in the first phase, then when he transforms immediately sprint out into the water, and just pray."
I think about it in my nightmares.... dying in one hit from across the map
Kos was my last trophy before 100%, I spent around 6 hours straight on the placenta swinging bastard. fml

Anyone else here feel bad that the creature? I mean, you are born just after your mom dies, you wanna grieve in peace and some guy covered in blood starts walking toward you. You get mad and try to make him run away, only for him to start fighting back. And no matter how many times they die, they just keep coming back until you die. That is a very very bad day.

Agreed, he's just widely seen as the hardest boss. Gael is similar to Orphan where he becomes really easy once you memorize his attacks. Midir still takes me at least 10 tries though.

cjkone978 oh really? I've always thought Midir was one of the hardest bosses, but I guess that just comes down to my playstyle. To be fair, I beat Gael on my first try and now can beat Orphan every time on NG+ cycles just because I know Orphan like the back of my hand at this point

The Soulsborne is infamous for having it's hardest and best fights in the dlcs (Artorias of the Abyss, Crown of the Old Iron King, The Old Hunters, and The Ringed City).

Probably one of my favorite fights just before Slave Knight Gael. I do have to say that I tackled the Dark Souls games before revisiting Bloodborne so learning Slave Knight Garl really helped me overcome Orphan of Kos. Took me only 7 tries to beat OOK. That last attempt was such an incredible feeling. When its all coming together, your instincts are on point, you realize you have plenty of blood viles, plenty of health, OOK is down to the last 4 hits or so and you enter a zone. Amazing fight!

This is what the hunters kept secret. I believe that the hunters somehow tried to create a being to assist them in their fighting, that had the power of a great one. I say this because 1. It is said that the great ones cannot produce their own offspring and use immaculate conception to reproduce. 2. The Orphan is humanoid and human size unlike any of the other Great ones, possibly because he is an amalgamation of mankind and a great one. This could be the final product of the fishing villages experiments. Some people say that the secret is that they killed Kos, but killing great ones is no big issue for the Hunters as seen by the players actions. An abomination made from the blood of humanity and The Great ones could be the Hunter's secret. However I cannot explain any of the post death quotes or much else. I can see that this theory is flawed but I think it's pretty cool.

Wonderful. I love the slow descent into hopelessness and eventual triumph. The Orphan will always be the most challenged I have been in a Soulsborne fight. Only Gael comes close to matching how far I had to go to overcome.
