Easily my favorite video from y’all so far 🙌🏽 I’ve been playing mtg for years but only started brewing constructed decks from scratch this year. This video was such a push to sit down and open tappedout 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Some cool tech with Willowdusk: Phyrexian mana spells synergize well, so you get discounts on the cmc and can pump beaters. For instance, Vault Skirge has Flying and Lifelink for 1Bph. For the investment of 2 life and 1 mana, you get a 3/3 beater next turn, and you can scale up from there! Persist is insane with Willowdusk. You can cheat out big beaters with reanimation spells, put a +1/+1 counter on it, and it will just keep coming back as long as you can put at least one +1/+1 counter on it. Woodfall Primus and Puppeteer Clique can end games for a small fraction of their cmc. With these two techs, you could do some weird jank with Birthing Pod + Persist for a essentially a 1 mana green TorTex (eat your heart out worldly tutor) you burn quite a bit of life in the process which feeds Willowdusk. Willowdusk is really underrated.
From your first suggestion video I was inspired to make 2 Reyhans. That deck is sooo much fun, I have really been enjoying it. I am not feeling the pull to brew from these suggestions but that doesn't matter, GREAT VIDEO love it.
I'm already well known in my playgroup as the guy that pays and otherwise loses life the fastest, and I picked up the Witherbloom commander deck earlier this year. I might as well weaponize my life loss, so it would seem that a Willowdusk build is in my future.
I love Volo and the commander idea, but there's so many humans and wizards I would want to play that I don't get to. also most Volo decks are probably going to be very similar because there are many necessary cards in each creature type
@@NitpickingNerds No I understand that there's a lot of diversity because of creature types, but a lot of the ramp, removal, and win cons will be very similar, especially if you've truly dedicated your deck to no overlapping creatures
I've been looking for inspiration for my next deck for awhile and Ben-Ben was just the inspiration I needed. The deck is built around goad and repercussion-style effects, alongside damage doublers, in order to blow opponents up for stepping on the land mines Ben-Ben sets. It's super unique and I'm so excited to try it out
A bonus point for using Golos as a commander for that black devotion deck is that you can search for nonbasic lands with his effect. Which means you can pretty much guarantee you'll get your juicy Cabal Coffers, Cabal Stronghold and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx.
Great ideas! Almost all 30 of my decks are "Planes-Locked" and will be at any opportunity. I'm always so thankful for alternate arts like those new shock lands, cause I try to keep everything on theme even down to the basic lands. Sucks when they print something sweet like Tuvasa but there's no Merfolk themes among any of the white cards on Ixalan :'(
I love that Ben Ben idea. As a finisher put stuffy doll and brash taunter in. They attack and Ben Ben dings them for a ton of damage. Essentially it lets Ben Ben be the finisher
My Gisela deck won many tournaments with the killer card 'Repercussion'... yes I like a Furnace out as well, but not necessary. Have Gisela and Repercussion, then cast 'Blasphemous Act for a disgustingly high damage win... but I love caltrops, Lightmine Field... and then be mean and have Grand Melee to force them to attack, Mana Barbs and of course War's Toll to synergise it all.... man this deck is fun...
Oh, so, I actually just made a Zendikar-themed deck! I ran 4-color Omnath as the Commander and made the limitation of not using cards from the Commander supplement so no Sol Ring/Arcane Signet/Command Tower. It came together really well! Highly recommend.
I actually did assemble one of those flavour-y 'all one plane' decks. Specifically a Niv-Mizzet all-izzet deck. So in order for a card to be included, it had to be izzet league aligned, or they at least had to be involved (this was to stretch it so that i could include a bit more fixing via Gateway Plaza, Transguild Promenade, etc. Need that when trying to cast a commander with 6 coloured symbols in the cost)
You can run tons of 3 mana ramp in Nymris, it's just not great. I think I'd want some, if only to deal with the huge MV of the Commander, 5 in Dimir is brutal, and there isn't *that* much 2 mana ramp in Dimir. I've liked Nymris from the first time I saw the card, it just happens to be clunky without a higher budget for mana rocks. If you can get Nymris out early, he becomes quite strong, but if you can only drop him on turn 5, he's coming out late enough that you might not draw enough to matter. Also, there are definitely sorcery speed cards I'd run, ramp alone will be plenty. I'd think you'd want ~50 instant speed cards, possibly even more. Nymris' ability also synergizes well with reanimation effects, and Dimir excels at that. If you run enough damage multipliers with Gisela, you probably don't need more than a couple out at once, so you probably won't need to tutor for them often. I wish W was still the Enchantment colour, it kind of is, but G stole it's lunch now. W might be able to cheat out a Serra's Sanctum for you (colourless can also help), which could generate enough mana to actually play your big clunky enchantments/replay your Commander. Again, I feel like Gisela is going to want janky 3 mana rocks, but they try to give them upsides now, so some are decent cards. Skyclave Relic is a decent 3 mana rock, especially if you run artifact wipes. Everything is a cantrip? That sounds like my Mk 1 Talrand deck. It's not actually a bad budget deck though, so I wonder if Kykar would be a good cantrip commander, since you get more diverse cantrips and a solid payoff on the card? Red ones that cost 1 can actually just dig, since you can sac your spirits, so if you can figure out a win con that draws a card, you might find it. Can you run Transmute effects in a cantrip deck? You don't 'draw', but you do put a different card into hand, so it's a lot like cycling for a mana value that you can only do at sorcery speed. If you allow that, you get a few more useful ways to find stuff. If you have access to Dimir, you're in very good shape then, because there are lots of Transmute effects out there for whatever you're looking for to win off of. Also wtf is Baleful Force doing? It's an 8 mana Phyrexian Arena... The problem with Arena is it's too slow/clunky for some metas, making it even clunkier is not helping the effect out. As effects go, it'd be much more interesting at BB to play, getting it out that early would be easy to justify, as you break even after 2 cards, rather than at 3 turns and 3 cards. I think they won't print that, but it would actually be approaching playability. Maybe UB for a 1/1 creature? or even 0/2? The US 'medical system' is a bit bigger than just politics, people are actually dying (to say nothing of suffering monumentally), and a lot of it probably isn't necessary. Most developed countries have found better solutions, and they aren't all the same as Canada, there are many variations, some that let people have private insurance even. I don't see the US liking Canada's 'nobody gets to jump the line' philosophy (which we do not keep true to btw), but I could see the US adopting a system where the government provides some competition to keep the prices on insurance down, because capitalism doesn't reward insurance companies for helping people, it rewards them for getting more and more money out of people while offering progressively less services. Late stage capitalism is nothing but price fixing between various massive competitors. I think making this a 'political issue' is the problem, because it should be an equality issue, not a 'right vs left' thing.
23:29 You can run brash taunter/stuffy doll, pariah and deflecting palm, drop red suns zenith on yourself (+ multiply dmg), prevent dmg with deflecting palm and do that dmg to its source controller (you) (multiply again because old dmg was prevented and palm does new dmg), pariah redirects dmg to brash taunter/stuffy doll and they redirect it into opponent (multiply again). You get different multiplication numbers becouse some things multiply only if you hit an opponent tho, furnace of rath works for one and all fortunately. I call it stuffy doll railgun and never actualy pulled it of, but hope dies last :D
Woah, why are you going after vampire nighthawk so hard? Vampire nighthawk is awesome. Even better when you slap a eldrazi conscription on it. Literally the secret commander of my 5 color eldrazi commander deck.
My weirdest deck to date is “Tribal Tribal” or “changeling tribal” with Reaper King at the helm, and an emphasis on manipulating your creature types with maskwood nexus. Once my creatures are every type, I get silly ETB effects with things like army of the damned or aether mutation, and I can take advantage of CT specific bonuses with things like Moog Catcher (3 mana to drop any creature from your library, since they’re all technically goblins) Rakdos Show Stopper (all your creatures are demons) and Utvara Hellkite (all my creatures are dragons that produce more dragons/scarecrows that destroy permanents) and since reaper king is an artifact I can use things that protect and reanimate artifacts to keep him and maskwood nexus around.
For the damage doubling deck, some fun includes would definitely be Jeska, Thrice Reborn and especially Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar. Triple Gisela's damage with Jeska for 15 damage which Gisela doubles again to 30. You just got someone with commander damage if unblocked, but then Kediss causes every other opponent to be smacked for 60 as well (because the 30 is now doubled again by Gisela). You could do this with other damage doublers that are more easily tutored as well, but Kediss is really nutty with Gisela.
I love the 5 color mono color devotion idea. Mono black might me the most powerful, but you could do this with any color. 5 color mono blue sounds like fun to me. I’m gonna check out what kind of cool hybrid cards are out there for each color
My new build is partners with a companion, and I call it three commander deck. I'm running vile smasher, reyhen and obosh as companion. So all odd costed with a little +1/+1 and double damage synergies.
Lol.. your "bananas" deck is very very similar to my "4 color cantrip" deck. I made it as a $50 budget deck. I did make a few exceptions to the cantrip rule. I use 2 cards with "retrace" because you end up discarding a ton of lands and a couple board wipes (I can always recover from a board wipe faster than every one else because I constantly have a full hand). It wins by overwhelming opponents with historically bad creatures, or a ton of eorm tokens (worm harvest) or beating the table with the best creature in the table by using the green blue clone spell with retrace. The commanders are Kydele, Chosen of Kruphix and Ravos, Soultender. It's hysterically fun and actually gets plenty of wins because no one takes it seriously.
i've made volo. the strongest play i've made is Junk Winder + Fairie Artisans. whenever an opponent plays a creature, tap 4 non-land permanents down and freeze them
I've been looking to build this exact idea for Nymris for like a month now! Wanted the challenge of only playing spells on my opponents turns. Keep them guessing!
I love all of these ideas! My cedh deck is nymris, and I have a Licia/Zirda companion deck with basically the same concept of the willowdusk idea though so I may be biased XD
How about a Naya Control build with X cmc spell finishers that aren't all burn spells, or a combo instead of Voltron?? Boardwipes and removal are the easy part. Counterspells not so much outside of Lapse of Uncertainty, Illuminate, Avoid Fate, Rebuff the Wicked, Veil of Summer, Heroic Intervention, Dawn Charm, R.E.B/Pyroblast, Gutteral Response, Mana Tithe, Mage's Contest, Artifact Blast, and Bind.
I built that double damage.deck a long time ago with Saskia! Can confirm it’s really fun. And I run Gisela IN that deck along withgettung 2 more colors. It runs, stuff like Wound Reflection and Final Punsihment in black 🙂 Also Fiendish Duo (can’t remember if you mentioned him) and all the extra combat stuff and double strike on creatures. My goal with that deck is to 1 shot somebody with a 2/2 from all the doubling (and anthems). It’s sounds so janky on paper but will often kills 2+ people out of no where.
My 5-Color Devotion deck is actually green, with Horde of Notions commander and an elemental subtheme (everything is still able to be played with green only, except the Horde). I've considered building all five colors in the same way, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
I once built a Ravnica deck, Niv Mizzet Reborn is an incredibly powerful and flavorful Commander for exactly this. There's also a website that lists most cards and their plane of origin, for example Hamza as Tarkir.
my willowdusk deck is one of my favorite decks I run and my play group has.learned to fear when they hear me say "pay 30 life cause they know I'm about to win... crank 30 into one of the many life pay abilities then loaded up a mrywn or anything that tapsfor mana based on its power or how many +1+1 counters on it then halifire or another big x spell
So one deck that I theory-crafted was to build a deck to be infinite combat steps. Commander: Obuun Deck theme: everything that either does someone during/at the beginning of combat or gives additional combat steps Main winning strategy: Combat damage OR Combat Celebrant + Helm of the Host combo for infinite combat steps in a single turn and infinite damage via combat.
My fav deck theme I've built is Black People Tribal Every non-land has art of a Black Person! It's dope and is acc really good. Spent over a year brewing it looking at the art of literally every card.
I considered Nymris for the all flash/instant deck for a long time, but honestly the idea of “Draw, Go” tribal being helmed by Drago is just too good to pass up.
I have a deck that includes only cards from the Golgari swarm (+ cards that are about vraska, even if they're not on Ravnica), it's super fun and even halfway decent
21:10 (Thanks marius kessel for timestamps) I actually built that deck a long time ago and took it apart for feather/aurelia but would def be a cool one to revisit with a couple of the new cards that came out. List incoming soon.
Am I crazy or is Joe wearing a yarmulke in this video? I had to go back and watch other videos to see if I am totally clueless and he’s always worn one. But then I remembered it’s Rosh Hashanah so if you are wearing one, happy holidays! We love you unconditionally Joe!!!
Ok I didn’t want anyone to think I was bashing Judaism or being anti Semitic. We are going to need to have a serious talk about your hair in this video then 😝
I've already got a vuel shapestealer infect deck built. I didn't realize all infect creatures and a couple synergistic ones like thrummingbird were all errata'd It's gonna wreak havoc on my other 60 decks for balance, but I do also have a door of destinies Gonna keep my incubator in my eldrazi tribal morophon devoid deck tho
I'm trying to make a Jeskai deck that has Imperial Recruiter and Recruiter of the Guard to tutor up Soulfire Grand Master and/or Braids, Conjuerer Adept. Then use Grozoth to tutor for Blasphemous Act which will now have lifelink, and tutor up other 9 mana goodies. Not sure where else to go with it though.
You could also cheese Volo by having graveyard self-hate. So long as you cast a creature that doesn't share a creature type with one on the BATTLEFIELD or your GRAVEYARD, so if you run some sort of sacrifice and/or delve pieces you can whisk those problems away and just play Simic Value.
I got a raff capashen deck which only plays smothering tithe as a non flashable card with raff out. I also have an izzet golos deck with only the world tree for the activation
I have an orzhov pay life tribal deck around Vona, Butcher of Magan that has villis, font of agonies, ad nauseum and a bunch of fun stuff. My restriction was I specifically had to avoid ALL aristocrat cards. I've always hated black white decks for just feeling like every one has blood artist as their secret commander. Building a black white deck without a single death payoff was really fun and I've got good reviews from opponents. If anyone knows of more "pay life" matters cards, I'd LOVE suggestions on includes cause I'm trying to lean more into abusing Vona's pay life ability to keep the board stalled. ALSO really interesting since you can kind of go light on removal, which orzhov doesn't usually get to do either. 100% would recommend
1:12 Volo: no creature overlaps

here we go again but for real what did you guys smoke this time ,sniffed to much blex? XD
I appreciate this series so much. I built my Jund Primal Surge Tana/Nadier deck from the same series.
Innistrad Humans with Kyler as the commander
Thats some pretty unfortunate timing for a Golos deck tech
I have a "Mono" black Golos deck and didn't think I would see that talked about anywhere else.

Stool tribal is one of my favorite decks
So funny that you made this video, I started making an Atraxa infect deck literally 2 days ago!
I built that double damage.deck a long time ago with Saskia! Can confirm it’s really fun. And I run Gisela IN that deck along withgettung 2 more colors. It runs, stuff like Wound Reflection and Final Punsihment in black 🙂
Also Fiendish Duo (can’t remember if you mentioned him) and all the extra combat stuff and double strike on creatures. My goal with that deck is to 1 shot somebody with a 2/2 from all the doubling (and anthems).
It’s sounds so janky on paper but will often kills 2+ people out of no where.
This just popped into my feed and I only had one thought. "Man this video is only a week old and the golos ban has already screwed it."
My 5-Color Devotion deck is actually green, with Horde of Notions commander and an elemental subtheme (everything is still able to be played with green only, except the Horde). I've considered building all five colors in the same way, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
You can also put Fiendish Duo in that Gisela deck.
I used to have a Tolsimir Wolfsblood Anthem tribal, just jam all the anthem cards and beat your opponent's with small guys that are suddenly 10/10
Love this series
We love your comments lol
Your Gisella, damage deck also needs Kindred Charge. When you double Angrath's Marauders, you also double it's doubling effect.
I actually built 5 color mono black devotion a few years ago, was really neat
I once built a Ravnica deck, Niv Mizzet Reborn is an incredibly powerful and flavorful Commander for exactly this. There's also a website that lists most cards and their plane of origin, for example Hamza as Tarkir.
I think it's called the multiverse project
Nymris is one of the best decks for Spellstutter Sprite/Venser with Riptide Laboratory.
with the gisela card you could also add a helm of the host to create copies of your commander so you can double like crazy
HECK YES
I have a Volo deck. Can confirm, is fun.
my willowdusk deck is one of my favorite decks I run and my play group has.learned to fear when they hear me say "pay 30 life cause they know I'm about to win... crank 30 into one of the many life pay abilities then loaded up a mrywn or anything that tapsfor mana based on its power or how many +1+1 counters on it then halifire or another big x spell
So one deck that I theory-crafted was to build a deck to be infinite combat steps.
Commander: Obuun
Deck theme: everything that either does someone during/at the beginning of combat or gives additional combat steps
Main winning strategy: Combat damage OR Combat Celebrant + Helm of the Host combo for infinite combat steps in a single turn and infinite damage via combat.
Honestly, mono-plane decks are awesome, I use them when I face weaker opponents and the flavor points are great
My fav deck theme I've built is Black People Tribal Every non-land has art of a Black Person! It's dope and is acc really good. Spent over a year brewing it looking at the art of literally every card.
Yeah, this is the real content. Building at least one of these sooner or later.
For awhile my Golos decks were just set draft chaff decks. I only use cards I opened from drafting the set. Had 4 different decks for him.
I considered Nymris for the all flash/instant deck for a long time, but honestly the idea of “Draw, Go” tribal being helmed by Drago is just too good to pass up.
Also for Gisela you can add Fiendish Duo even though it was only printed once and is probably pricey.
This is true lots of doublers
Heartless hidetsugu in the gisela deck 🧐
Hornet queen should be an auto include in Volo
Seems meh
@@NitpickingNerds I thought it had the hornet creature type🙁
@@NitpickingNerds EDHREC has it at +34% synergy for Volo so that's something...
More videos like this. This was such a cool video. Thanks for making it!
Yes you are crazy I am Agnostic :)
Ok I didn’t want anyone to think I was bashing Judaism or being anti Semitic. We are going to need to have a serious talk about your hair in this video then 😝
I've already got a vuel shapestealer infect deck built. I didn't realize all infect creatures and a couple synergistic ones like thrummingbird were all errata'd
It's gonna wreak havoc on my other 60 decks for balance, but I do also have a door of destinies
Gonna keep my incubator in my eldrazi tribal morophon devoid deck tho
Well, that's awkward. Sorry Golos, you were a real trip.
Love this series. Who would be the commander for the no land deck?
You could also cheese Volo by having graveyard self-hate. So long as you cast a creature that doesn't share a creature type with one on the BATTLEFIELD or your GRAVEYARD, so if you run some sort of sacrifice and/or delve pieces you can whisk those problems away and just play Simic Value.
My most creative deck is a vannifar affinity deck so I can pod affinity creatures into eldrazi
That’s really cool 😎
I got a raff capashen deck which only plays smothering tithe as a non flashable card with raff out. I also have an izzet golos deck with only the world tree for the activation
I already have an All Flash deck with Chromium the Mutable as the commander, built before Nymris came out.
I literally just built a 0 overlap volo deck last night, that’s hilarious
Share the list!
I started mine a few days ago too! I'm in the K's right now for creature types atm
@@NitpickingNerds you could definitely make some swaps to make it more budget friendly, cheers

The flash tribal reminds me of my Raff Capashen only historics which is probably my favorite deck I have.
That is pretty cool to go 100% historic!
for the damage doubling you guys forgot about Fiendish Duo + Goblin Goliath (gotta love game night cards)
Currently brewing something similar to the Gisela one but its Ravos/Vial Smasher with obosh companion so only all the odd doublers
Best elf for Volo. Beast whisperer. No other choice really. It’s too good here.
Yawgmoth is another fun powerful include that Joe and Beezy introduced me too!
mindstone and commander sphere in the cycle deck for mana rocks
I love the channel......great stuff guys
Nice ideas here, very intriguing. Hard for the average player to follow at times. Can you print some staple cards from each deck to give details?
Actually strike that. Most of these are explained really well. Love the Golls and Gisela decks
I was going to do some thing similar to your all spells deck but I was going to do it by using victimize to bring back balustrade spy and trenchgorger
I build a vial smasher sakashima flash tribal deck and it was awesomeness
Vampire Nighthawk is one of the best 3 drops around! Well he used to be but still.
I play old gnawbone hurricane so that way no one wins since it kills me as well. Ties are fun!
