If you're still unsure about how long you'll be in New York for, I would suggest you take advantage of every time you fly to visit your parents and swap out your closet for the next season. That way you don't have to deal with the logistics of moving everything.

Make sure you give the outer boroughs a chance (mainly Brooklyn, don’t go to Staten Island ever) there are great boutique stores to shop at. If you’re willing to take a drive, there are some luxury shopping centers in New Jersey and a little bit further upstate at Woodbury Commons.

I'm very late commenting on this. When I moved to Australia, I shipped via a very reputable shipping company. When my shipment arrived, many items were missing. The big clue was a boot print on the back of a white shirt where my items had obviously been hauled out of the boxes, rifled through & cherry picked. Completely get where you are coming from with taking it on the plane with you.

Insurance, insurance, insurance. Be sure to travel with that to protect your luggage, and contents. Be sure to lock up everything. Use hand luggage for most valuables. Use non descriptive brands for hold luggage.

I’ve shipped the contents of a house 📦 numerous times over the world never had any problems during those moves, but that comes down to the company you use, and how you pack yourself. So don’t be worried if you decide to go down that route 🚢
Very exciting! Reminds me of when I moved (in the opposite direction!) to the UK briefly for my career and I would not trade that memory for the world. I left the US to move to Japan when I was in my 20s, and it was one of the best (and hardest) decisions I've ever made! 11 years later and I'm still here! If it's something you want to do, you really just have to go for it. The first 1-2 years are the hardest, but after that it really starts to feel like your new home. 😊

My 15 year old daughter is not well right now, she has ADD and severe anxiety and she hasn’t been able to go to school for 3 months. She stays at home in her room. I’m so worried she’ll never come out and have a life- I wish for her to get out in the world like you do and live her life.

I recently moved to a different country and I couldn't trust sending my bags with a shipping company either! I don't have nearly as many bags as you but I put all my bags in my carry on. I was afraid to check them in because we had a layover and I didn't want to risk them getting lost somewhere. If it was a straight flight I would have felt more comfortable checking them in, but I digress. I'm excited for your new adventure overseas!! 🎉

I used to take the train or the bus to NYC, it was so convenient. I loved going to this cute British tea place called Tea and Sympathy….the tea and the food there is so delicious. They do require that each person that dines there orders an entree….I read their rules before I went. They had a small snack shop too and I bought plenty of chocolates and digestives there. I miss that place. ♥️

Very exciting! Reminds me of when I moved (in the opposite direction!) to the UK briefly for my career and I would not trade that memory for the world. I left the US to move to Japan when I was in my 20s, and it was one of the best (and hardest) decisions I've ever made! 11 years later and I'm still here! If it's something you want to do, you really just have to go for it. The first 1-2 years are the hardest, but after that it really starts to feel like your new home. 😊

I am happy for you. You are so sweet and I will be following your endeavors. My 15 year old daughter is not well right now, she has ADD and severe anxiety and she hasn’t been able to go to school for 3 months. She stays at home in her room. I’m so worried she’ll never come out and have a life- I wish for her to get out in the world like you do and live her life.
I’m so sorry to hear she’s been having a rough time, I hope she can overcome some of her anxiety though I understand how hard it must be for her. You sound like a lovely mum so I’m sure your support gives her comfort 💖💖💖

I recently moved to a different country and I couldn't trust sending my bags with a shipping company either! I don't have nearly as many bags as you but I put all my bags in my carry on. I was afraid to check them in because we had a layover and I didn't want to risk them getting lost somewhere. If it was a straight flight I would have felt more comfortable checking them in, but I digress. I'm excited for your new adventure overseas!! 🎉

I’m so excited for you and Nii!! You will love NYC. I have visited NYC several times in the past when I used to live in the east coast. I used to take the train or the bus to NYC, it was so convenient. I loved going to this cute British tea place called Tea and Sympathy….the tea and the food there is so delicious. They do require that each person that dines there orders an entree….I read their rules before I went. They had a small snack shop too and I bought plenty of chocolates and digestives there. I miss that place. ♥️
