I notice that you use quite a thin slip lead with the dogs you train. Does it make a big difference and if so what size do you recommend for a cocker? Thanks for your videos, they are so helpful for my first time training a dog.

Very brave of you Ben. Putting yourself in the spotlight has highlighted your inexperience, but so many people will watch this and think “that’s me and my dog”. We all had to start from this point and although you have made mistakes you have many positives. And you have done the right thing in seeking good advice. If you follow Charlie’s instructions you will improve Narla and you will learn loads yourself. Good luck with your dog buddy.

Quit while you’re ahead is a good recommendation for all training, I think sometimes we just need reminding, and to mix it up. Great seeing an owner with problems we may all have.

Ben has made a great decision in asking for coaching, learning what to do is important but learning what not to do is more important. I’m sure with Charlie’s help he’ll make excellent progress, perhaps there could be a follow up video later on showing Bens progress. Just my opinion.

Very helpful. Thanks. I’ve been letting my 20 month old dog play too much during our training sessions. He need to master the come back first.

Thank you for this. I find your instructional videos invaluable. A special shout to Ben for agreeing to be filmed, an ordeal I suspect that I would try to avoid but which makes these videos so very very helpful. I really cannot get enough of these videos. I now watch them and take notes as your ‘information stream’ sometimes overwhelms my elderly brain 😂

Great advice about how to build up the retrieve! After another of your videos about retrieving (I believe it was about Harris’ problems with retrieving), I realised I was going to fast practising retrieving with my young dog. She has the talent (carries things all the time, brings me her stuff and never damaged a ball or dummy), but not so much the drive. I made it more of a fun game and figured out she’ll bring her dummy back without messing about if I move away from her. As long as she enjoys it, I’m happy with any level.

@@shelleypatterson4397 as soon as possible if you have the room to put it on a lead at home then great at 8 weeks if not wait until they have had their vaccinations and straight on the lead. Don’t compare a show cocker to a working cocker 2 totally different strains and temperament.

Why do you think I went for training. I’m a bricklayer that can build a house with my eyes closed. I haven’t got a clue about gun dogs or working dogs you’re right. But this is me learning… assuming like you did once upon a time. As for assuming me and my dog have no bond is a joke 🤣 how very narrow minded of you from a clipped up 30 minute video….
