Learning Colourlock with Lars Pickhardt & Ram Iyer - Part 2

- Опубліковано 8 вер 2019
- Now moving on from the discussion we had about ColourLock products and different types of leather we start using the actual products we talked about in the first part of this video. The M5 had every product shown used somewhere in the car. The steering wheel was the worst piece of leather and needed to be cleaned with ColourLock Leather Cleaner, dyed with Leather Fresh & later protected with Leather Shield & Leather Protect. I really appreciate having Lars & Ram come out & hope to have them here again for something in the future!

Thanks for the videos from Lars and Ram, super informative and these products are great. To summarize:
Strong leather cleaner - For leather older than 3 years old or heavily soiled leather
Mild leather cleaner - For leather newer than 3 years old or recently cleaned leather
Leather protector - Conditioner
Leather shield - UV protector
Step 1 - Apply leather cleaner to brush and clean one section at a time not pressing down on the brush
Step 2 - Wipe up with microfiber towel
Step 3 - Apply leather protector using towel
Step 4 - Wait 48 hours to apply leather shield with sponge. Wipe down with wet side and then level it out with dry side
*If you don’t have time to wait, use leather shield first and dry with heat gun/hair dryer and then apply protector
Aside from the wash and chat/rants, these are my favorite type of videos you put out for us Matt. Being able to get the information and watch the procedures right from the source is invaluable, thank you.
ColourLock at Obsessed Garage❤.
This is how you deal with leather.
These guys know their stuff. Steering wheel looked amazing!
Excited to try their products, just learning as we all right now 👍🏼
Great Learning Experience all around!! Thank-You!!
Thanks so much matt. Videos like these really help those of us trying to make a living to cater to a more affluent clientele
Awesome look at the process Matt, definitely great learning information. 👍👌
That steering wheel looked brand new after he finished cleaning it. I'm definitely going to have to try out their products on the Oyster coloured leather in my 1 Series. It's definitely in need of a clean.
Did you try the colourlock cleaner out ?
Even though I have used this product for quite some time, I still learnt lots. Thanks Mat👍
Haha, I just spent an hour watching someone clean an interior. So relaxing.
i have a love of both interior and exterior but as i get older i find myself loving leather and interiors more. just a great video thank you
Excellent video , great guys. Thanks for doing this Matt. Will help me in the next few days, using the GLD and Leather Cleaning spirit solvent based cleaners as well on the Porsche.
Their gear is the best for leather hands down guys ! Been using it for a few years now and the shield works a treat. 👍🏼👌🏼
Thanks for doing this, great video and great info! From one car guy to another, thank you!
very informative, thank you
I am thinking about getting a leather care kit from them and this video is great. Thanks a lot!!
That steering wheel was the epitome of #janky ! Wow. Gotta say, that alone impressed me with their products. This is great content...so thank you.
Very impressed with how much that steering wheel transformed.
Anyone else cringe when the leather was pinched repeatedly? Haha...I know it’s fine but still
Robert Wojcicki yeah I was like stop stretching the leather (bro). If I was Matt I would have asked so is there a leather shrink mix? Stop stretching the leathers bro! Lol
Same! I was saying “enough already!” Out loud!
Robert Wojcicki yea he destroyed it!! I dont know why people say oh the steering wheel got 200% time better i dont see that
@@bmwsincekid agreed, looks the same or worse
I think a simple go pro overhead where the sunroof is would have made Bryce's job a lot easier, or Matt needs to get a tripod that allows for a top down view.
These products look very promising, the Recaros in my focus st are very difficult to keep clean. Hopefully in your shop soon!
I’ll certainly be trying this in my cars. I have to say I’m a bit surprised that Matt didnt remove the seats for a more complete, all-around cleaning... plus its a-lot easier to maneuver
I finally made my own vis review of Colourlock and wanted to thank you for such an informative couple of videos with these guys. I tried to link your video in mine, but not sure how it turned up yet
Just in time, I've recently been thinking that my 991 seats and interior should get a good cleaning and protection applied.
Looking forward to see an interior cleaning/protection kit in the OG store.
Also surprised to see so much crap on the steering wheel in a car with only 15K miles. Cleaned up good though!
I like the idea of using that foam cleaner everywhere.
The look ram got when he said life time guarantee 😂😂
Wow so much info in these 2 parts .. but I got to admit, it made my leather cleaning way more complicated. I'm now confused lol
Wow Matt, I can’t believe the freaking steering wheel was that dirty and oily ! Jenkee😝
I didn’t find the product going a long way. I burned through a small tube in one interior cleaning. Maybe I used too much but the foam seems to dry and evaporate of the brush quickly.
Matt lol I know you don’t like the BMW F8X’s Gen’s I picked up an 2020 BMW M4 with full Marino leather packaging every inch of a car covered. Looking forward to using this on my new inventory
Did COLOURLOCK LEATHER CLEANER strip the pigment off the steering wheel?
Like you brought up, my interior was coated with Gyeon leather shield 3 years go. Given it says it last a year, and has not been reapplied would you say I’m fine to proceed with applying this as normal, or like you did if it’s not removed fully should I not be using colourlock leather shield?
I learned more about leather in 1 hour than 23 years of my mom telling me how to take care of leather lmao
Quick tip: If you can't find your color match go to Home Depot or Lowes and get a bunch of paint color card samples and find your exact match(es) and send them the card. I've done that a few times with another company and it worked out great although I'm not sure their products are as good as ColourLock's ;-)
What would you use that’s the same standard as this but for synthetic?
I also find, if as you clean, the leather will be sticky until it is fully clean because the oils get sticky when wet. When it's truly clean its not sticky after you wipe off the cleaner. Never tried the tape test. Good to know.
I used Colourlock Leather Shield on my new black leather seats. Do you have to buff off the excess after it is applied?
Yes, you do want to level it and wipe of excess gently.
Matt, at 38:00 you mentioned how to maintain the interior. What did you end up deciding on? Because with leather shield they say you should apply between 3-12 months (on their website), but if I want to just maintain the interior every month what should I do? Since in this video they say to reapply shield every time you clean the interior. That seems like too frequent of use.
That’s not how I understood it
@@caseG80 great! So what is your understanding?
Won’t the methyl alcohol in COLOURLOCK LEATHER SHIELD damage the leather?
Stuff seems exactly like the gyeon leather quartz cleaner and coat they sell.
Did he completely strip your steering wheel?
My question is after you apply the protectant, can you still drive the car or does it have to sit for 48 hours?
You can still drive. Be the first few hours just a bit careful.
Lars Pickhardt I can let it sit over night, so sounds like that’ll be sufficient...?
scrubbing that one section of steering wheel then the heat gun that close to the wheel 💀
33:10 Corvette? 🤔😎
Okay, i am sold! When will it be in the store? Dont want to give amazon anymore $$$
Soon...
What do you do for regular cleanings between applications without removing the product?
I use a basic interior cleaner like P&S or Griot's.
@@ObsessedGarage they indicated even their mild cleaner would remove the shield product…. I assume a car pro inside would do the same. Diluting would be the way to go?
I thought leather was coated and you could use water or Simple Green to clean them. Auto Fetish has a few videos about this subject.
No, that's a bad idea.
1:20 he destroyed that seat 😂
Heat gun makes me nervous. I'm sure you too lol
Are the results really as good as they look? Does the ColourLock Kit really restore the BMW M Sport leather steering wheel to its factory/showroom matte finish?
I wouldn't say it looks factory new, but it's much better.
How was he spinning the wheel so freely with the engine switched off?
The car was on the lift.
@@ObsessedGarage thanks for clarifying was messing with my head 🤣 that leather fresh is magic stuff 👌
I feel like he just ruined that side bolster
Does that make sense?
How many cars do you have in total? Obsessed Garage by name and by nature 🤣
Right now I have 5.
People say steering wheels are dirtier than toilet seats. Meh 😝
Guess Swissvax has gone out the window?
is Lars rinsing the brush as he cleans each section or is there no need ?
Depending on how dirty the brush is, I rinse it with clear water, in the video I did not do that.
Ahh i see. Thank you. Looking forward to do a full training with you guys
He rinsed it a few times.
definitely worth having a bucket of water near by or in your case a sink.
for the M5 hope many foam applicators did Lars go through ?
He wipes the brush with the towel when doing steering wheel
So for articial just the artificial cleaner plus protector? No shield? Its for tesla. The tesla kit hahha
Leather after colourlock looks like used.. Its shining and in touch feels like oiled material.. Matt products are better for cars like this.

do not use this product, it will eat your leathers paint
No
The dipstick really stretched the heck out of your seat. Surprised you didn't punch him in the face. Sorry met many many many leather experts and not one of them found the need to stretch leather like that, ever.
American and European experts have different quality tastes
0:52 compared to 2:14, the guy really pulled/stretched the leather. Look how loose it became.....
It will go back to how it was. It's leather. It has stretchable properties.
43:06 back to the same :)
Petsku333 its not the same G There are still Marks on it check
That's how you know it's leather.
Obsessed Garage with all the respect i dont want to find out if its leather or not By destroying it 😂
Please stop folding and pulling the leather.....
Cringed everytime, and when the other guy touched the car the whole time, yeezzz
After several years of experience, I think he knows where the limitations of leather are.
I'm guessing you've never owned leather interior
@@typ8723 my current 3 series is full leather,, I just personally wouldn't want someone pulling and creasing the leather like that in my car.
@@ashash7513 what do you think happens everyone your fatass sits down on it
