Supreme Court Upholds Section 6A of Citizenship Act, Grants Citizenship to Pre-1966 Assam Immigrants

In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court upheld the constitutional validity of Section 6A of the Citizenship Act, 1955, granting citizenship to immigrants who entered Assam before January 1, 1966. The five-judge bench, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, delivered a majority verdict, with Justice J B Pardiwala dissenting.
