I'm drinking an Old Forester Rye while watching this with a big smile on my face as the bottles dot the bottom of the screen. This is actually my first rye and although taken aback by the nose and palate initially, a little water made it really good. This also is the neck pour, per se, so I expect the next time it will be even better. Great review gents!
Sean I just want to say, after many recommendations for Early Times BIB, I finally got the opportunity to try it in my area. And you were so right. I don’t think you can beat that liter for $25. I went back and bought a backup. Now I’m going back to buy everything my store has (6 more). What a great daily sipper

Great video dudes. For me, the elephant in the room is Russell’s Single Barrel rye at $65 crushes almost every ‘fancy’ rye I’ve had (especially the 2018 & 2019 Russell’s bottles). Not to mention the Rare Breed Barrel proof Rye that’s about to hit the market at $60. It makes it tough for me to even consider another expensive rye, let alone paying secondary prices.
One of my favorite more easy to find rye whiskey is my Knob Creek Store Pick. It’s fantastic and is aged 5 years. Thanks for the great videos fellas! Cheers!
Came for the content stayed for the bottle flips Found a Bottle of Kentucky Owl Batch 3 today for $129.99! I almost bought two but I just picked up midwinter night dram act 8, so the bourbon budget was already blown. I can’t find a lot of the rare bourbons in MN but the Ryes seem to be on he shelf.
I agree about the Owensboro, KY area...Willet Rye is about $60 everywhere...the Pot Still Bourbon is from $38 on sale at Meier to $48 in the liquor stores...available just about everywhere. I live in Indianapolis...Rye is no where to be found...special liquor stores MIGHT have a bottle of the Pot Still. Maybe...
I would never pay 100 for Taylor. I love Willet. Bought the crap out of it back in 2015. Holey shit you dropped the Kentucky Owl! I payed 140 bucks for the Owl rye in new Jersey of all places. Shipped it home with the Confiscated I also bought. LOVE IT! Redemption Cask so good. Dont have Midwinter. Never tried it. Most I ever paid was 165 for Boss Hog Whistle Pig back in 2015 in Summerville SC. Had the booze hook up at the local liquor store. Bought a ton of stuff from them. As secondly prices rise faster than my liver enzyme count Im glad I bought and stashed prior to this madness.
Just ordered a KO Batch 3 delivered for 150... Looking forward to trying it. The cheapest I've seen it around town is 190. Thanks for the video gents!!

I don't have a lot of experience with ryes, but of the ryes I've had, and having visited the distillery and heard the story behind the distillery, I have really loved Catoctin Creek cask strength rye at about $90 retail. Great rich 100% rye grain rye whiskey. Amazing.
I get the Willett 4 year for about $65 retail down here in Texas and my favorite liquor store always has it on the shelf. It's probably my favorite non-MGP rye.
The 4 year Willet Rye is one of my favorites, and when I was working in the area of Owensboro, KY was readily available for $60. If I was choosing a true favorite though, I love the Masterson's 10 Year Straight Rye...deep, rich and full of spice. In comparison, the EH Taylor Rye taste watered down next to the Masterson's. Was lucky to get at $65, and I strongly suggest giving it a shot.
Love Rye and will jump through hoops to get the good stuff but have never paid secondary. Michter's BS Rye-3 bottles at $97 Cad, EHT Rye retails for $89-$99 Cad in most provinces but is allocated or gone in a blink. Would pay $100 Cad for the WFE Rye, have an old 2014 WFE MGP 4 year that is not opened. Have batch 1 and 2 KO, traded for both Paid retail for the MWND's. that blind tasting spot is hilarious.
So interesting to see Willet 4yr keep popping up on random videos I watch. Also, again, distribution is crazy. This stuff is available all over the place where I'm at. Pretty much every liquor store you walk into it is just sitting on the shelf for $50 - $60, but others say they can't get it.
I tried a sample of EHT Rye and to me, it's worth half its MSRP. Also, for future "How Much Should You Pay for X Bourbon?" you should do what you did with OF Rye, but do it with WT101.
Willet 4 Yr is my favorite regularly obtainable rye. I can get it multiple times a year for $60 and I always have a few bottles on hand. I got lucky and found a Michters BP rye for msrp and it is fantastic. I would probably pay $150 if I had the chance to purchase again. I have only had KO batch 2, but love it. I want to buy batch 3. My favorite rye that I’ve tried is the PH heavy char rye. I would pay secondary for a second bottle.
Of course...finally sit down to watch today's BJ video only to see the Willet 4 year...after passing up a bottle at the store today for 70 because I thought it might be overpriced. smh
@@BourbonJunkies oh, I opened that bottle right away. I get sticky toffee pudding on the nose as well as fig newtons. For me, the port comes through well on the palate. I can not compare to previous bottlings, but I would definitely buy this one again at MSRP.
The proof varies quite a bit from batch to batch, so it only makes sense that the flavor will vary as well. I never had one that I didn't like though, and they always seem to have that spicy Willett flavor at the base.
Finally drinking out of real glasses. I just can't get behind Glencairn..... I have done the same blind tasting with rocks glasses and Glencairn's. Any guesses ? Same results.
I haven’t tried many ryes just yet but I’d pay about $110 for wellers special reserve and that’s because I can’t find any wellers right now and I have to say there’s something so good about it.
As of right now.......WhistlePig 10 year is my favorite and I’d pay $99.99 for it. I found WP 12 at a reasonable price at $100 and I’ll be trying that soon.
About 25-30 years ago I tried a few different Rye's. None were any good; tasted like the water came from a swimming pool at the end of the season 😂. About a year ago, a friend gave me a glass and it was decent. So, I've bought a few low priced bottles since then and have developed a bit of a taste for Rye now. Not enough to spend more than $50 on one yet. Last week I found a steal of a deal. I was grocery shopping and came across a bottle of Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Rye on sale for $35 (normally $45-60 in Phoenix). It was bottled the day after my wife's birthday in November 2018. So far, that is the best Rye I've bought. Rye has definitely improved over the last couple decades 😎👍

I think any of the KO ryes offer more, Parker's heritage rye wrecks it, and lot 40 cask is well above it. The 15 is a special treat, and if it was 75 cheaper it would be amazing.

Agreed, some of their store picks are closer to 14 yrs for the same price as Retail Single Barrel and much better overall. Small batch is nice for around $65-75 range
My local boozemonger has about 6 bottles of Willett 4 yr for $62. Every time I go in there I'm about THAT CLOSE to cleaning them out, but on the other hand, they haven't gone anywhere yet...
Blasphemy I know, but rye is not my jam, and just something I have around for mixed drinks. Therefore, Baby Saz and New Riff are all inkeep. In my bar.
That seems tame by most CA Secondary standards, but honestly would rather pay that price for any Stagg Jr Batch (they don't disappoint) or some other limited allocated Bottles. Try to hit some perimeter locations down there you might stumble on retail price.

The best rye I have ever had was a 2013 VWFRR C series. It was killer. I paid 60 for it in 2013 😅. It was well worth it lol. It could have used some more abv though. How much would you guys pay for some really rare ryes like Red Hook, Rathskeller, Iron Fist, or Velvet Glove 🤔?

Thus far OF Rye is my go to. Bulliet is fantastic and super affordable. I think Saz is trash. Still exploring ryes.

That seems tame by most CA Secondary standards, but honestly would rather pay that price for any Stagg Jr Batch (they don't disappoint) or some other limited allocated Bottles. Try to hit some perimeter locations down there you might stumble on retail price.

The best rye I have ever had was a 2013 VWFRR C series. It was killer. I paid 60 for it in 2013 😅. It was well worth it lol. It could have used some more abv though. How much would you guys pay for some really rare ryes like Red Hook, Rathskeller, Iron Fist, or Velvet Glove 🤔?
