Hold onto your hats my friends, they’re just getting started. This album is a masterpiece. 💚
one way out, blue sky, mountain jam, les brers...buckle up
It sure is.
50 years and still as fresh as it was in 72.
This song was the first Gregg wrote after Duane's death and was part of his healing process. It was also the first time Dickey Betts played slide on a recording. Nobody knew he could play slide before this was recorded.
I was going to say the same thing but you beat me to it
Yes, he wrote it for that specific purpose,
Dickey always played acoustic slide, but he never cared for electric slide. But he had to do it!
Betts played some sweet slide in this tune.
I didn't appreciate this band until later in life, but I started giving them the respect they deserve.
Better late than never, been listening to these guys since I was 13, 51 years now, one of my favorite bands of all time.❤
@humpy936 I've been listening to them all my life, (62) I just didn't appreciate them until recently
Following the death of group leader and guitarist Duane Allman, the Allman Brothers Band returned to the studio to complete Eat a Peach, which was midway through production at the time of his passing. Much of the song's lyrical content deals with his death; Gregg Allman felt the subject "was the only thing I knew how to do right then." Allman had completed most of the song's music before his brother's death, but felt compelled to record it when bassist Berry Oakley and drummer Jaimoe asked about it. He proceeded to write the song's lyrics-which also concern soldiers returning home from the Vietnam War on a Steinway piano at Criteria Studios in Miami, Florida, where it was recorded in December 1971. Guitarist Dickey Betts picked up slide guitar in the aftermath of the tragedy, and took time to make sure his performance on the song would be up to par. Allman later recalled that he remembered Betts practicing the slide part for the song on the airplane down to Miam
Just send us the link to the article next time.
Props to Dickey.
@@BDJ7002 thanks for taking the time to read my post & the snarky comment ✌️
Love BLUE SKY from this album! Fantastic album.
@skydog6376 no kidding, sheesh 🙄
The way ya'll looked at each other when he Sang the lines " leave your mind alone and just get high" made my day
58 yrs old and a lifelong fan, just gotta say their music and a little herbage has sustained and helped me through all the hills and valleys life has thrown my way! This album absolutely deserve full coverage. Thanks for hitting this one and can't wait for you to react to the rest.
After Duane unexpectedly died, every member of the ban struggled. Duane had pulled them together, locked the door, and told them they’d have to fight him to get out the door. Greg wrote this song really as an ode to his struggles and to his brother. Greg stepped up with the songwriting and leadership. As did Dickey Betts, taking over lead guitar and writing songs also. A beautiful song, but in the context it WWC written, even more so
That is one of those songs that you can immediately start over and listen to again
One of the best LP’s of the era. Bittersweet, being Duane’s last. Perfect from start to finish, with songs from the Fillmore show on Live LP, including my favorite, Mountain Jam, and the most beautiful song by Dickey Betts, Blue Sky. Enjoy.✌️❤️🎶
RIP Brothers Gregg, Duane, Berry & Butch..Born & raised in Queens, outside of Macon, NYC is the Brothers second home and we get a lot of Brothers related shows, and this one always hits .. been using this song for some music therapy since I was 15 (now 54). The important part of the line isn’t the “just get high” but the “leave your mind alone” part that prefaces it, cause that’s were it all starts .. love the channel, and specifically the music and production perspective the both of you bring.. music for the head & heart ✌️
4:10 Got bong in hand........btw ..Duane Allman died in 1971 so his brother Greg had to have been feelin' the pain. And the bass player, Berry Oakley died in 1972 they same way in the same area. Motorcycle crash 3 blocks away. Macon , GA.
This song, of course the whole "Eat A Peach" album, brings a flood of memories. I was in my second year of college in San Jose, Ca. when this album came out. I couldn't get to " Tower Records " fast enough to buy it. What a fantastic album by a multi talented group of guys. This is a double album with " Mountain Jam " on the second side of both records. Great reaction guys. And thinks for reacting to the Allman Brothers. Take care.
You guys are the best. I’m 71 years old and I love this song.
The thing is when I watched this it’s not like I’m simply watching your reactions; it’s more like I’m watching it with you guys. You guys do a great job!
their music hit me like a hurricane, still love em to this day. Great reaction
My sentiment exactly!
A LOT of us took this song to heart... Glad y'all liked it, and the rest of the album is great.
The Allman Brothers are one of the greatest rock bands of all time, straight up. Unbelievable talent.
Wow ... I see a couple fellow Allman Bros fans being born! Love It!!
Was in a small, private club in Columbia, SC in the late 60s or early 70s. Around midnight, Duane, Greg and Jaimoe walked in after a concert in town. The local band quit playing and the three got on the stage and played for about 1 1/2 hours. Good times. Good memories. Very nostalgic to go back. Peace out.
I've seen the Bros in concert more times than any other band. Brothers and Sisters is my favorite album from them.
"Well, by and by, way after many years have gone
And all the war freaks die off, leavin' us alone
We'll raise our children, in the peaceful way we can
It's up to you and me brother
To try and try again"-Gregg L. Allman
They played what was an unscheduled date at the Hofstra field house on long Island, after Duane's death..It was my second concert. I was 14. I particularly remember it because it was April 9th, '72. My birthday is the 10th. When the clock struck 12 I turned 15, and they were cooking still!..The place had to be 100 deg..They thought about breaking up the band after Duane's death, briefly..Thank God they didn't, 'cause they came out looking to show the world they weren't going anywhere..It was an amazing concert, and I'm sure a very emotional one for them..They definitely had something to prove to themselves, and did they ever!..Like I said, it was unscheduled, and you won't find it anywhere..I think it was to test things out, to get ready for the tour to promote this album..It's an amazing album!..Enjoy!
Wow, that’s cool to read about your similar experience ! I also saw them that spring when I was 15 (New Haven) and my 2nd concert too. I was already a major fan and had bought the album for my first stereo system I bought used around the same time. The trajectory of the music scene was incredible back then ! Only wish I was a little older so I could made it to Watkins Glen.
@@tcanfield They came back to Hofstra the following November, and that you can find. I wonder if they played New Haven then. It drove me crazy that I could never find it because it was my birthday, and that specific birthday..I started to think I'd imagined it! Until I told that story a few years back and found someone who actually worked the show, and remembered it well..Then it all made sense. And for awhile I assumed it was their very first show after Duane passed. However, that wasn't true..They did at least one show in December, just a little more than a month after his accident. I'm not sure where now, but I think it was in Georgia. Which, again, would make sense..Either way, it made me an instant Allman's fan..Just blew me away. They played for over 3 hours, in that Gym, and the sound was unreal!..I've been to many shows in my life, and still, to this day, nothing could come close to that one..Can't touch it.
Sadly this was Duane Allman's swan song. He was killed in a motorcycle accident October 29, 1971. This was their 4th album.
And Bassist Barry Oakley died in a motorcycle crash almost a year after Duanne died. Poor Barry couldn't get over losing his buddy...
@@wc1994 I don't think Gregg ever got over the deaths of both Berry & Duane. And why he went down so far 💔
Firstly, I'm so sorry for the loss of your family members from Covid, that's devastating. I agree this is an incredible song that really touches the soul and brings joy. Thank you for doing the whole album, there's plenty Allman Brothers songs I haven't heard yet.
Gregg wrote this after his brother Duane died in a motorcycle accident.
I'm from Macon, I've been listening to the Brothers from the beginning, since I was a kid, about 50 years
I was still a teenanger, when I found myself on Peachtree Street, which was Atlanta's street scene back in the day, selling the underground newspaper to tourists who came to see the show. People Can You Feel It, another Allman Brothers anthem, filled the airwaves. It was like the Haight Ashbury of the South.
Saw the Allman brothers for the first time at the Ottawa Bluesfest on July 11, 2003. My father Rick Mayoh Sr. and I had a very important agenda- to rock out to his favourite band, and for me to learn some critically important lessons. Love that you guys are continuing to spread the word!!
1984 pop this cassette into my Walkman while watching a college baseball game. Never even listened to the allmans until that day. I sat there captivated and in amazement of the music. Seen these boys over 40 times. Mostly at the beacon theatre.
First heard this smoking a jay in the back seat of a 68 mustang while in HS... now Retired it went by like a Hurricane.
Awesome! Can’t wait until you get to Blue Sky. Incredible lead guitar work by Duane Allman (guitar #1) and Dicky Betts (guitar #2). This song is one of my favorite road trip songs - specially when the sun is shining bright (and preferably on country roads).
I bought this album on 8-track tape back in the 8th grade, soon after its release, and it was my wonderful introduction to the Allman Brothers.
“All those war freaks die off. Leaving’ us alone.” Indeed. Indeed. It’s you and me brother. Cherish and learn from one another. Be kind. Always. Out lies and evil. Always.
This was the era that they toured with The Grateful Dead......and what an event that must have been to behold.
The band I've seen live more than any other. ❤
Yes! Y'all get it! I love watching your reactions to this music! Thanks for sharing!
I just love watchin yall feel it. Its universal
Fantastic message in those words🙏❤️🙏
One of my all-time favorites. Every March the ABB would play a 2 week run at the Beacon Theater in NYC. I went 10+ years in a row. They would often open show with "Ain’t Wastin’ Time" and cloud of smoke would rise from the crowd (not tobacco). I usually had my own, but if not people would always share. Great times from a bygone era.
Allman Brothers Band were awesome great music.Enjoyed the reaction!!
Classic album.. Allman Bros. Band are absolutely legendary. Their live album “Live at the Fillmore East” is a MUST LISTEN. 👊🏼👊🏼
God bless you two brothers.
We can all use some Allman Brothers music therapy… love this album
Gregg's singing and that sweet slide by his brother Duane and Dickey Betts always shine like diamonds. Great music, soulful and meaningful lyrics. These boys know how to lay down the soulful blues down - 'Cause time goes by like hurricanes, Runnin' after the subway trains, and
Don't forget the pourin' rain'. Duane dies before they can finish this album.
This song is after Duane's death This slide is Betts'.
another band from that era where the creativity and talent level is through the roof. a very sad day losing duane so early, right up there with jimi, janis, and morrison.....over the years i saw them several times at the beacon theatre in n.y......their home away from home..
My big brother, RIP at 16, had this lp. I still have it. He and his hippie buddies loved this album
I assume you guys have reacted to Whipping Post from the Live at the Fillmore album. In my top five live songs of all time. Recorded in 1969, I believe.
Huge ABB fan here. This is my fave song of theirs. 😎
So terribly sorry for your losses. Sending love, hugs and good vibes. ❤
This album will blow. you. away.
Enjoy the ride guys!❤
My Absolute Favorite album from The Allman Brothers!!
A Masterpiece 😊
They get that beautiful laid back southern roll to their rock groove. Plus they mix in blues and jazz.
Another one in which it's been too long since I've listened to. The Allman's were the best of this southern rock/blues category. What a complete sound in every way.
It’s GABBAFEST in Macon, Ga this weekend! (Georgia ALLMAN Brothers Association) Everyone is gathered to celebrate this fantastic band. Perfect timing. I’m going to share your reaction on The GABBA page! 🍄🍑🎶
Thanks my friend!! Have an awesome weekend!!
@@AirplayBeats I wish I was there but I have a bunch of friends who are there. I’m in DC to watch the Braves.
@@perijetton9275 a ball game is just as great. Enjoy!! Go Braves!!
GABBAFest! I went to the ‘94 and ‘95 fests (or was it ‘95 and ‘96?) Such a great time! Toured the Big House before Kirk had opened it to the public, saw one of the Mule’s first shows, played in an acoustic jam on the Opera House stage, met Berry O Jr … so many great memories. Have a fabulous weekend!
@@johnhoerl7326 Kim Payne passed away today. 😢
OMG - SO GLAD to see you-guys hittin' this album!! ABB is one of my very favorites!! EVERY SONG makes you wanna MOVE!! Some: move slow - some: move faster - but, YOU MOVIN'!!! Just GOOD JAMS!!! 🔥 NOT A BAD TUNE (that I've ever heard) by THIS band!! HUGS!! ❤
You guys have reacted to Derek Trucks ( Tedeschi Trucks band) this album to me, Duane Allman is why Derek became the best slide guitarist , maybe ever.
You guys REALLY need to/should review "Live at the Filmore East"...greatest live album...EVER!
Gregg wrote this for Duane right after he died. They were in the middle of making this album when Duane passed.
In 1969 Duane Allman and a guy named Boz Skaggs did a song called "Loan me a dime" that y'all REALLY NEED TO HEAR...., Seriously. "Muscle Scholes Studio"
What a soulful voice. Thier whole collection is fire. What a fantastic band. I commented to a comment that you guys are kindred spirits. Your on point with your reactions reactions. I even watch you do reactions to music that I do not listen to. And you give me a whole perspective to it that I actually enjoy. I am going to take your advice and roll one up and sit back and enjoy your reactions. Thanks again for all that you do it is much appreciated. Look forward to a great weekend and you and that watches your channel. EVERYONE HAVE A FANTASTIC WEEKEND!
Really loving all your reactions! Keep 'em comin and thank you for the interpretation. Music can do that, and can heal, especially with that slide geetar!
Always cool, always classy, always good. The Allman Brothers Band.
You can never go wrong with an Allman Brothers song. I love them all.
Yes. This is early. And Duane is kicking ass on guitar and his lil brother is roaring with that voice!! Good Southern rock!
A truly iconic Album .... These tunes will live on forever ...
Genius band!!
Beautiful reaction and thank you for it. For me, the key lyric is just before his “…and just get high” line. He says, “…leave your mind alone and just get high” which I translate as, “Turn off your brain and live in the very moment you are in… and THEN get high.” ✌️
Sorry, i will always do this because i love this music so much. When Greg passed away in like 2017, Tedeschi Trucks covered this and the solo by Derek was transcendent. From the first note you could hear the emotion and decades of musical prowess from Duane to Greg to Derek's guitar. Will post as comment if the performance is still up.
Sorry for your losses from the pandemic. Thanks for the tune this morning!
This is by far my favorite Allman Bros Album, has been since it came out...
All timer Vibe here , gents .
Deep Well , this Record .
Absolutely love the groove on the studio version here. One of the few songs of theirs that didn't sound better live. This one has extra pep. Looking forward to y'all hearing "Les Brers in A Minor." An instrumental masterpiece.
I met Dicky Betts about 15 years ago. He came in a little store up the road from my house that is the only store in my town and right off of the Interstate. Anyhow it was a rainy morning and I was just up there drinking coffee (free coffee) with a couple other locals at about 6am when this guy in a cowboy hat camein. Almost right away I recognized him, but took me a minute to convince myself. So I said to him, "are you Dicky Betts" by his own admission he was more surprised to be recognized than I was to see him in my little hangout. But he looked at me and smiled and "yep, I am Dicky Betts" he was great, he actually came over and sat at the table with us and just basically shot the shit for the better part of an hour...he happened to be there because he had played a show in Nashville the night before with Kid Rock. We are about an hour due east of Nashville
The Allman Brothers capture the essence of the sound of the south! The soulful feeling will be revealed with this record!
Once again....Love your reaction! Great song.
Gregg Allman’s voice just got better with age.
Eat a Peach is a masterpiece album . I could put that whole album on loop and never ever tire of it.
Thank you Allman brothers band for being my Dad’s favourite band and for teaching me cool stuff- never forget the Ottawa Bluesfest July 11 2003 where we both saw them rock life to the fullest.
A fav song. Glad you guys heard it. Can you believe Greg was barely 25 when he sang on that record? All those guys were really young when they started the band.
Eat a peach is one of my favorites . This band was my late husband's favorite band besides the dead. He was an extreme dead head followed them everywhere.
Masterpiece song & lyrics. Masterful reaction, bros!
Had this album when it first came out. Great tunes but didn’t pay too much attention to the lyrics. This song totally hit home now since I recently lost my mom. Getting through some S*#T too. Thanks for sharing this pick me up tune! You guys get it how music touches all of us! 🎹🎧🎸
This whole album is awesome! It’s not their first but it was an instant classic!
Y'all picked a winner.
One of the best albums ever!
Love the Allman Brothers! Whipping Post and Statesboro Blues are masterpieces!
No better medicine than music and laughter.
My all time favorite album (can't wait till you get to Mountain Jam)
The guitarist, played in The 60's band Lemon Pipers the song was Green Tambourine.
I remember listening to this when it first came out. I’m not tired of it!
Great, great, great album! One of the 1st albums I purchased. Still have it and occasionally pull it out and listen to it on vinyl.
One of my fave albums of all time. This particular song as I recall was written after Duane Allman died.😢
I just want to say how great it is you doing full albums. Its how the serious listener experienced this music. Great move guys!
One of my absolute favorites ❤
They are one of the Best bands EVER.
Such an underrated lost gem. Great song gentleman.
Gregg wrote this right after Duane died. Duane only played on a few song on EAT A PEACH. He died while recording. And they filled the rest from tracks from the Fillmore Shows
I was in 10th grade when this was released. It changed me. Thanks for making this reaction.
Great reaction - The Allman Bothers hits just right today. I’m putting Eat a Peach on tonight after work. Thanks guys!
Such a beautiful soulful song. Words to live by.
I first heard this album in 1974 as a teenager - even then it connected with me. The older teenagers in my neighborhood had a band and would practice parts of this album in their garage. Good memories.
Praying for you brethren ...cuz I "get" what you're saying .
I saw the Allman's as much as I could back in the 90s.
