Jesse goes to the Marshall factory for the first phase of his UK adventure. A new generation of teenagers in the 60s inspired by the blues and The Beatles decided that they wanted to play their rock 'n' roll loud. Coincidentally, an unassuming genius called Jim Marshall started an amplification company in 1962 and before long had created 'The Marshall Sound' without which the 70s metal explosion would simply not have been possible. Jesse has a tour of the factory as the company's 50th anniversary approaches and sees how the legendary amps are put together with love and absolute technical perfection.
Birmingham
Jesse heads straight for the Midlands and the first stop is the fabled Birmingham studio Rich Bitch to meet Quartz, one of the great unsung metal bands from the 70s. Not only did the band tour with Sabbath back in the day and had Ozzy doing backing vocals for them, but Tony Iommi produced their debut album and in 1979, Sabbath poached Geoff Nicholls from the band and he subsequently played with them for over 20 years. They treat Jesse to some of their classic riffs and some stories from their time on the road with Sabbath.
