There is a ban on bass in Cornwall yet the commercial boys take every thing. I've had some great bass suppers this year and more to come. The new boat and Honda 15 is on its way can't wait.
We use live herring for Pacific Salmon, we call it mooching. We cut plug the herring and call it power mooching. Great video and the second I have found this morning so I think I am up to 248 maybe?
@@Trojwaterman you and I are very similar! Here we troll with a Scottie Downrigger, it has a 5 - 15 pound weight on it and a quick release because Salmon or some species of Salmon are down deep. So when any fish hits your lure or bait, the quick release triggers and you set the hook. You can hit the switch on your Downrigger and fight the fish while it winds in the weight. This is the best way to get down deep then go fight the fish with no weight.
Hi Troj,I watched your vid on using wire covering for mackerel feathers, unfortunately,I didn't note the length of outer wire covering and the size of hooks you use.Could you possibly tell me.?
I use 4/0 hooks for mackerel and 7/0 8/0 for pollock bass. length of wire covering just so it covers the hook eye and knot ua-cam.com/video/6kwNZDVcohM/v-deo.html
Through the top mouth / nose then put them in the water, let line out and let them swim about if there are bass around often wont take long. Just give them a little line when you think a bass has it before you strike.
Could you use this free lining method with horse mackerel from the shore? Would it be better to use a float or some type of controller. Or just let it swim freely? Love your videos by the way.
Thanks for the reply. It would be off a harbour wall with a rocky kelp covered bottom. No more than 25ft deep I’d say. If you recommend using a float or controller what depth would you set it at?
Hi, you are saying in the video that some of the mackerel are too big. Do you have a size for live bait that you prefer / like ? I have tried hooking Mackerel through the nose and I have never top lip hooked a mackerel as I thought it would kill them quickly, but it looks like that's not the case ? Thanks for all your interesting vids,
It was more about keeping the mackerel alive, large mackerel would have needed more aerated water. Conditions were not Ideal by using the medium size was my best option that day. I would use any size but the biggest, its more about setting the hook. The horse mackerel is tougher than the mackerel and is far less likely to die.
Impressive. Sadly we have to return all bass this year if we are lucky to catch one! Is the mark a reef or wreck, and could you get bigger Pollack instead with live bait? Hardly any mackerel around Plymouth!
We have had loads of mackerel here this year. I Fished for the bass over reef but you can find them here anywhere. The ban on non licenced boats and shore anglers is a joke its lip service to try to show that something is being done while the mass slaughter continues with huge fishing vessels and nets. I have seen very few pollock here this year.
Trojs Fishing couldn’t agree more. They ban the guy with a none licensed vessel with a couple of rods yet they let the slaughter continue with the bigger licensed trawlers, makes me so angry.
Trojs Fishing Agreed, even if a licenced rod fisherman is as prolific as you in catching them (I am always amazed with your catches) you can't imagine that makes a dent compared to boats hoovering them up via nets. Recreational anglers make an even smaller dent. Anyway hope there will be more and bigger bass for us all in the future!
large boats will catch more bass in a 1 night than I will catch in a lifetime. This is the scale some people who make these rules do not seem to understand. You can have every rod & line fisherman kill his catch and it would be a drop in the ocean compared to the large slaughtering vessels. Ontop of that there is the millions of tons of dead by-catch and damage caused to the environment using certain methods. When I fish I want to look after my area for obvious reasons. Large scale fishing dont care its only about the money, shareholders and when one species is destroyed they will move onto the next. The best place for those types is at the bottom of the ocean some of those vessels would make great fish sanctuary's.
AdrianxGill it’s the same here in Ireland all bass to be returned I wouldn’t mind that as I return all bass but I know I’m only letting them go for the French and Spanish trawlers to catch them in our waters it’s sickening the bass are getting smaller and fewer here every year it’s like we’re all protecting the bass so these guys can catch them
In England, Guernsey the Channel Islands. Check out the 'Fish Locker' He fishes in Cornwall England and he holds the record for the largest shore caught BASS 20lbs. The Fish Locker is best sea fishing channel on UA-cam imo. John catches everything from delicate and rare 'Red Band Fish' to 400 lb Blue Fin Tuna from his small boat of off the Cornish/South West English coast. I guarantee you will love his channel Kerim if you love sea fishing. 👍😊🐟🦀🐙 🎣
I'm based down the south east horse mackerel has always been a good bait down here I find small pouting deadly in autumn early winter I livebait from the pier so have to use strong line they run you under the pylons off the pier. Didn't go last year because off the ban etc loved your videos where are you based ? The coastline on your foraging video is beautifull
Im down in Guernsey, Channel Islands. I have tried pout in the past but without much success. Its probably down to the areas I fish and availability of food types as you may know bass can get focused on certain baits.
@@Trojwaterman Yes I think they focus on certain food prey items that are easy pickings where they can expend as little energy as possible to increase growth rate. Watched several off your videos loved them fished all my life. Forgot to say I've used mackerel horse mackerel herring immature garfish pout poor cod blennys live prawn peelers live softys king rag there all good and have there day from the structures piers I've fished. It's true what you said I've had bass off 4-5 lb in weight take a mackerel off nearly a pound in weight when I couldnt catch any Joey's to use. Sea angling down my way isn't as good as it use to be the cod have disappeared because off trawlers raping the seas so split myself between fresh and sea angling these days seas always been my favourite plenty off thornback rays down here at the mo do all my fishing from the shore looks like I'll have to try and visit the channel Islands one day tight lines

A great down to earth fishing personality. No nonsense....just fishing... 👍🍀🤲
I live bait off my kayak and it's my favourite type of fishing for bass, so exciting when you get that take. Great video. 👍🎣
Nice shot of the mackerel down his gob!
Goodly days fishing, brilliant no music blasting your ears, goody video
I prefer to have the natural sounds. The sea, the birds, the wind its all part of being out there fishing.
@@Trojwaterman the outboard running all the time ahh bliss, lol

I've been looking forward to seeing this video 👌🏽👌🏽

Sweet! You think you will do live baiting again this year Troy?
The bass have been so small last year but definitely if I know there are some good size fish about
super łowienie ...gratuluję !!!

Amazing
You the man
Is it best to just freeline the mackerel or use a flapper/paternosta with a weight?
Freeline is better for bass
Hi buddy i have one question how do you rig the mackreel please?
8/0 hook in the mouth up through the nose then the fish will swill freely
Great video again, do you keep the mackeral a live in a air ated tank or just sea water..
Mackerel need a lot of oxygen and die easy, horse mackerel you can keep just in seawater just change water now and again
nice bass pal, would love to see you cook it up with french musterd mixed with butter and salt and pepper :}

Hi buddy nice video you dont use lead fishing weights?
Not when fishing like this just let the mackerel swim freely the bass will find it
@@Trojwaterman thx buddy iam fishing with surfcasting i need lead i think ?
Where about is that?
@8:30 ish theres fish feeding on the surface on your left
Those are some nice sized bass! They must make good table fare since you keep them quite often. What’s your favorite way to cook them?
They do make very good table fare & are great cooked with butter and herbs in tin foil in the oven but personally I prefer pollock :)
What way do you hook the mackerel up ? Keep em live ....cast them in and hope for the best ( i just started fishing this year)
Through the top mouth / nose then put them in the water, let line out and let them swim about if there are bass around often wont take long. Just give them a little line when you think a bass has it before you strike.
Wohoo! Now that's how it's done, making a small fish big, dipp it in water! :)

I would just let it swim freely but it would depend on the ground your fishing and if it was going to swim around rocks.

@@anglerfish1001 It does not matter probably 5ft as bass will come up from underneath

Salut mon ami très belle vidéo bonne continuation à toi à bientôt
Great video, what sort of depth is it there?
It varies a lot but I fished about 30ft this time.
Fantastic video, interested to know why horse mackrel not mackrel !!!!
Well Horse mackerel are much easier to keep and once you have used a horse mackerel in a bass area you will understand why, it really is that good.
