This was such a great film. A co-worker who really loved Disney had never seen it so I recommended it to her and told her you will love this. She called m the next day "OMG! I cried!!!!"
I remember seeing this in a drive in theater back in the 1970's when I was a kid and this theater showed a lot of Disney films from the 50's, 60's, and 70's, I'm 59 now and i miss old Disney movies and drive in theaters thank you.🇺🇲📽️📺🎥🇺🇲
Jeepers, this is so sweet! The men recalling the filming in such warm, respectful ways really brings a tear to my eyes. Thanks for sharing! I bought a copy of this one because I loved the special features so much! One of my fave live-action Disneys.
I was a Scout and later an avid Scouter serving in a number of roles. One of the proudest moments of my life was seeing my son achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. This movie holds a special place in my heart for so many reasons. Chief among those reasons is the call the movie makes to each of us to make a difference in the world. Lem certainly made a difference in my life and in the lives of all the boys in our local troop here in RI...even if those boys never knew it. My fellow Scouters and I were always aware that we were following in Lem's footsteps as best as we could.
Now, here's a very good movie production from the classic Disney Studios that ought to be seen again! The cast of boys all had that Walt Disney and his trusted writers that is so uniquely Walt's "touch" of family style greatness. I think it was back in early 1966 that my parents, a sister (or two of my five) and, a very rare participantion of my dad's mother and, her three unmarried daughters, went to see this movie on a cold sunny weekend in Southport, Indiana. Famed actor, Fred McMurray was nearing the halfway point in his CBS-TV popular TV series, "My Three Sons" and, must have had some TV production time off to make Disney's "Follow Me, Boys". I'm sure glad "Uncle Walt" was still around to see some of the movie production going on.
@@scotthettrick9125 I love everything about this movie! The cast, the story, the setting…and Fred as a scoutmaster!!! A genius film that way way way more people need to know about!!!
I've known of this film for years but have never seen it, at least no recollection. Nice to see scenes from it, well-restored, too, it appears. I've always liked Fred MacMurray as well. Many of the commenters have expressed their nostalgia over the lack of such films today. Understandable, of course, especially as baby-boomers my age, who grew up on Disney movies, realize all the decades that've passed, sensing their inescapable mortality. As for wishing such films could be made again, I'm afraid there's just no market for them, certainly not for this particular subject matter. Society has changed, light-years away from the year of this film's release. Hasn't the Boy Scouts organization itself become extinct? The Disney flick showcased here would never be okayed or rereleased, as it's not pc or woke, there being a complete lack of ethnic diversity. Yes, it could be remade to reflect our current era but doubt it would contain the original innocence & charm. To appeal to kids of today, I'm sure it would be considerably vulgarized. Anyway, my point being that longing for such films to return to theaters again is a worthy dream but the world in which "Boys" first appeared no longer exists. Believe me, I sympathize.

Even the "making of" videos of that period are "make you feel good" videos. Such greatness. Let's hope it returns to cinema again ASAP.
@@TheRadioAteMyTV One of the best bonus features! I love that these relatively unknown actors are celebrated here!

It’s a shame Walt’s studio does not produce movies like this anymore
@@paboy2727 I’d hate to see the product if they did! We will always have these precious time capsules!!
Walt Disney movies and Masterpiece theatre my favorites. I also miss Danger Bay from Disney channel. 👍 💯
Cool that this is one of your favorites - mine too and I thought I was one of only ones since it never ranks among Disney's most popular

When I see how they do that rescue scene it kind of bother me because it is pretty dangerous and I think the metal parts could have hurt them
