Jim Morrison and Dennis Wilson pick up a Hitchhiking Charles Manson

- Robby Krieger: Oh, right. He picked Charles Manson up hitchhiking one day. Yeah. Him and the Beach Boys drummer Dennis. The two of them were driving down Sunset Boulevard. They picked up Charlie with his guitar and he was going up to see Terry Melcher to play his demo for Terry Melcher, who he later was trying to kill because he didn’t like it."

Two of the best bands to come out of California, The beachboys and of course The Doors.
The co-author of Robby's autobiography responded to this today in a FB group. Robby heard the story second hand from an unnamed source. He did not hear it directly from Morrison or Dennis Wilson. He acknowledged that he doesn't really know if the story is true.
Yes i showed him the vid. I think it never will be confirmed..
Same with this research, It is possible it happened, but we will never know for sure..
Canned Heat's drummer, Fito de la Parra, revealed
--in his book, Living the Blues--that Morrison was
friends with Alan Wilson, one of Canned Heat's
founding members, rhythm guitarist, harmonica
player, and vocalist.(1) On September 3, 1970,
Wilson was found dead in a sleeping bag near the
home of fellow band member, Bob "the Bear" Hite,
in Topanga Canyon, L.A.(2) Wilson was living with
Hite at the time of his death. De la Parra further
claims Hite (also deceased) boasted of "knowing
Manson family members."(3) It is quite possible
--given the location of Hite's home in Topanga
Canyon--that Hite did in fact meet members of the
Manson family at the Spiral Staircase, the Satanic
house in Topanga Canyon where Manson and his family
members once spent a lot of time. And since Morrison
was friends with Hite's house mate, Alan Wilson, it
is quite possible that Morrison and Wilson may have
accompanied Hite to the Spiral Staircase at some
point where Morrison may have met Manson. In
addition, Morrison had bought his longtime
girlfriend, Pamela Courson, a cottage in Topanga.(4)
So he was geographically close to the Spiral
Staircase through Courson as well as Bob Hite
and Alan Wilson.
- Rock journalist/author, Barney Hoskyns, revealed
in his book, Arthur Lee: Alone Again Or (2001),
that Manson family member Bobby Beausoleil played
rhythm guitar for the rock group Love briefly in
1965, when they were named The Grass Roots.(5)
(Different band than the Grass Roots that had
several hits in the late Sixties.) Beausoleil was
later convicted of murdering Gary Hinman. Morrison
was friends with Love's founder, Arthur Lee. In
fact, Lee encouraged Elektra Records' founder and
president, Jac Holzman, to sign the Doors. (6)
Beausoleil claims he remained on good terms with
Lee after leaving Love. (Beausoleil was replaced
by Bryan Maclean because Maclean had been a roadie
for the Byrds and had lots of connections in the
LA music scene through the renowned rock group.)
Beausoleil claims Lee renamed the group Love, in
honor of Beausoleil, because his nickname was
Cupid.(7) Surprisingly, Vincent Bugliosi
corroborated that Beausoleil's nickname was in
fact Cupid in Bugliosi's famous book, Helter
Skelter: The True Story of the Manson Murders.(8)
Given that Beausoleil and Lee apparently remained
friends after parting ways musically, and given
that Morrison was also friends with Lee, and given
that Beausoleil was a member of Charlie Manson's
renowned "family", it is quite possible that Manson
met Morrison through the Lee/Beausoleil connection.
- Writer Barney Hoskyns claims Jerry Hopkins and
Doug Lyon co-managed Love in 1966.(9) This is quite
odd, given that Hopkins mentioned Love in his
Morrison biography, No One Here Gets Out Alive
(co-authored with Danny Sugerman), but failed to
reveal that he managed the lesser-known LA band.
- One of Love's albums shows them standing/sitting
on a spiral staircase. During that period, Love
reportedly lived together in a Gothic mansion once
owned by actor Bela Lugosi. On May 22, 1999, Sean
Elder wrote an article about Love for Salon magazine
in San Francisco. In the article, Elder described
how the mansion's "destroyed fireplace and spiral
staircase appear in most of the Love photo shoots"
from the Sixties.(10) Could Lugosi's Gothic
mansion be the same place in Topanga Canyon that
Charlie Manson called the "Spiral Staircase," the
house of drugs, sex and depraved satanic practices?
(NOTE: Someone mentioned recently--in a discussion
group on one of Love's websites--that the Lugosi
house is not the same residence as the Satanic
Spiral Staircase, frequented by Manson et al.
Manson claims he met Bobby Beausoleil at the Spiral
Staircase, so there appears to be a common thread
surrounding this bizarre residence. Further
research is needed to determine if it is in fact
the same place.)
Based on the evidence presented herein, it is highly
possible--if not probable--that Manson and Morrison
met at some point, and perhaps saw each other
frequently at the Spiral Staircase in Topanga Canyon.

@@TheDutchGuy The spiral stairs seen in the Love album cover is in the interior of the house. The spiral staircase that Manson visited was on the exterior of the house, and was located at the foot of Topanga Canyon, very near the Malibu Feed Bin and close to the Pacific Coast highway.
3924 Topanga Lane is the address of the "Spiral Staircase" The staircase stood on the right front side of the house and gave access to the second level as the house was a duplex. The first floor was trashed and filled with sand.. It wasn’t a fancy place; ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxQzHUxQBV6AIVTpdFGjZlgDfMe3xKXySI
@@TheDutchGuy I can vouch I was hitching a ride as well but they weren't going to Venice I ended up hitching a ride with Elliott Mintz and John Lennon but yeah I saw Charlie hop in Charlie was a smart ass and called shot gun and tried to make Jim get in back and Jim said "no way man who the hell you think you are you little weasel be thankful your getting a ride" Jim was like laughing and saying "can you believe the nerve of this guy" Jim says "I'm not one of your little whores or yes men you might can get away talking to Dennis like that but I'm liable to give you a knuckle sandwich pal", and Charles giggled and shut up he was only teasing with Morrison and Jim knew he was but yeah that went down . Jim was really upset when he figured out Jay Sebring was killed they were sort friends he's the only one to allow mess with his hair
Glad to see new content from you, mate!
In regards to Robby's comment, I'd take it with a grain of salt. I do not mean he is lying or twisting the truth (as Ray often did), but we are talking about something that happened half a century ago, and Robby himself states in his memoirs how he would come up with several explanations to certain situations (his black eye, the origin of his son “Love me two times”, etc.) Or perhaps it is as he says.
Very interesting observation about Krieger and Manzarek.
I'm forming an opinion of the three who survived Morrison, simply because they are a source of direct information about Morrison. I believe that all three are decent enough people, but are informed by differing personal traits.
Manzarek - he seems to be a slick and energetic self-promoter who was keenly are that his future was closely bound to the public perception of Morrison, and so he enhances every aspect that he feels will build the myth. At the same time, he does pass useful information about details that are relatively mundane and not related to myth-building. So since I'm not interested in the myth, there is a lot that I do not give much weight to.
Krieger - he comes off as a sort of beta male, retiring in the face of the attention directed at Morrison, who is basically a decent observer, but he, too, is aware of the value of the Morrison Myth, and is not above adding to it. But his insights to Morrison's normal behavior are of value.
Densmore - in a sense he seems very competitive by nature--bear in mind this was not a trait that was in vogue in his (my) generation until the mid-80s. So I think he had sorta alpha male tussles and resentment against Morrison over Morrison being the center of attention, and also that without Morrison there was no Doors. I think it bothered him somewhat. However, I think that most of the time he is the most honest of the three, and seeks to enhance the myth the least.
Interesting, thanks!
Every knows about The Beach Boys connection with Manson. Are they saying that Jim met Manson???
Rest in powerful peace

from what I've studied, the afterlife has a lot more than just resting...
I love the doors and the magical wonderful music and singing they created
I knew Jimbo and Manson must have crossed paths at some point wandering around Hollywood.. but giving the guy a ride hits close to home. What a story!
I researched it a while, this it the first time I hear Doors members talk about it.. Jim also could have met Charles at the Spiral staircase house in Topanga (Topanga canyon lane 3924) Bob Hite lived close to the Spiral staircase and Alan Wilson stayed at Bob Hite's place. Bob Hite had connections with the Mansons, and Jim had a connection with Alan Wilson.. The three of them probably visited the Spiral Staircase once or more.
@@TheDutchGuy that's awesome.. I love reading/hearing about new Jimbo information that's not in the same books we have all consumed over the years
@@TheDutchGuy thats the first I'd heard re jim in the car w/ manson... why wasnt this mentioned long before??? that was far too big a story it seems to be overlooked .... everyones dead who could confirm it, so it sounds sketchy, like a ray hype story, esp since it wasnt mentioned before.... is this more milking of the good ship doors cow or was this ever mentioned before? .... if its true, its a spooky story indeed. I will say, morrison, as much as he was out w/ the public on the streets in LA, was actually pretty deft in not allowing fans to get too close or stalk him etc. ... riders as a mood piece & poem, did fit perfectly for that particular time period as hippie idealism was slipping into disillusionment & paranoia via events like manson & kent state.
I don’t know if it really happened, but Robby and John both look like they remember the story.. Manson recorded his records in de Beach boys studio in 1968, so there could have been a connection with Dennis already which made them stop the car.. For the setting; The interview is from Dec 2001
@@TheDutchGuy Have you ever heard the rumor about the night watchman at the Cielo Drive house? He supposedly did not hear the murders of Sharon Tate and others because he was "in the guard house, listening to The Doors album" at full volume. Might be and urban myth.
also you can see some Manson followers on verious video ca 1969 in LA, and one of thems wear the same Moroccan djellaba, Sharon Tate had purchased in Pam’s shop Themis. Given these were men djellaba; imported from Morocco, and Themis was probably one of the very few places you could get these, who knows if one of the Manson girls went into themis?
What up bro I really love your show

they would of hung out at the Topanga Corral aka the roadhouse from roadhouse blues also playing live jams with many others like neil young canned heat etc.. check out michaels backporch video on the manson/morrison link
I think they would hung out at the spiral staircase house close to Bob Hite's house, The spiral staircase was a hangout for the Mansons and was also a hangout for L.A.’s rich and famous icons of counter-culture. Bob bragged about knowing the mansons, at the same time Jim Morrisons friend Alan Wilson was living with Bob, the two visited the spiral staircase house with Bob and met the Mansons there. The spiral staircase was located close to Topanga Beach on 3924 Topanga Canyon Lane, it was a flood damaged house with only the second floor occupied, the first floor was washed out and filled with sand. To enter you needed to take a spiral staircase on the right side of the house.
@@TheDutchGuy nice, ive heard of that place too but had no idea bob hite knew manson that much! To me it seems that all these guys were ok with manson as he spoke alot of truth and philosophy but after the murders they all had to play along with the media's story of manson and not mention him or their careers would be over and copped out!
They did, when Dennis attacked Jim and Eric Burdon at the Whiskey they met each other... But is't not about the Dennis /Jim connection Its about Jim meeting Charles, which he probably did at the Spiral staircase in Topanga together with Alan Wilson and Bob Hite. Bob Hite was the connection, he lived close to the Spiral staircase and knew the Mansons, Jim's friend Alan stayed at Bob's house, the three of them visited the spiral to score and party. The Spiral Staircase was known for having the rich and famous as guests.
@@TheDutchGuy, Basically your saying both Dennis Wilson and Jim morrision got into a fight . Right or Wrong?.
@@johndoyle2429 No i'm not sayin that, Jon Stebbins friend and biographer of Dennis Wilson is saying/confirming it... Dennis Wilson, Eric Burdon and Jim Morrison in a fight at the Whiskey a Go-Go is what he confirms.
That had nothing to do with Manson though, the version I read claimed Dennis fought Jim because Jimbo was being being a dick heckling some artist at a gig they were both in the audience for.
What does John mean,
Robbie give Jim a bone?
