- Sixteen Eastern Barred Bandicoots were released this week on Churchill Island as part of a trial designed to save the species from extinction.
Thanks to the efforts by Phillip Island Nature Parks, Churchill Island is fox and feral-cat free and is considered to be ideal habitat for Eastern Barred Bandicoots. Lisa Neville, Minister for Environment, Climate Change & Water was on hand to release the first bandicoot into their new fence-free wild home.
