Just bought this bracelet too, but for a Longines Bigeye Chrono. Just in case you don’t know, Staib are such good quality that they have produced custom mesh bracelets under contract for brands like Omega and other Swiss luxury watch brands. The mesh you would have seen on the Astronaut’s Speedmasters would have been the JB / Forstner Komfit bracelet. In the last few years someone bought the rights to the name and started making modern reproductions of them, because the originals from the 60s were going for many hundreds of dollars. They are really insubstantial in build, very thin. They are an acquired taste. They were selected for use for a couple of reasons - they could be adjusted to a big enough size to fit over a spacesuit and the second is that due to them being thin, unlike an OEM bracelet, if the Komfit mesh bracelet got snagged on something, they could easily be torn away. The thinness proved to be a safety measure!
Was your watch originally the strap version? I've seen some stuff about it being difficult finding a bracelet that fits the strap version because of a difference in the lugs?
Yep, it is the version that came with the leather strap and NATO like strap. You are right, the lug width made it a bit harder to find the right size, but I found the exact size at Holben’s

Did you need any special tool aside from the pin pusher? Someone told me I needed a watch sizing device but I doubt it

I personally prefer the regular one. The regular is an awesome bracelet, even being different color to the case. This mess does mean nothing to me...
