For all Russians who are confused with the thumbnail - Russell meant "they're back" они вернулись (не там)🙃
@queenstreetsystems I think it was my "4am working on UA-cam mind" ))
I tried but didn’t find what I wanted to design my Moscow apartment some 20 years ago. The only thing I bought from them was faux doodle slippery slopes… btw, what I needed I found from Belarus manufacturers.
Да, мы делали покупки в Икее и очень любили все как организовано там. Мы выросли на ней. У других так не получится.
In Australia, we use IKEA items and furniture up to a year /sometime less/, that’s when breaks or or fades, take it to the front lawn and call the rubbish centre to collect /we can use that offer for free twice a wear/. “Thanks” IKEA for changing our interiors so often😅
I am impressed that Russia regrouped and created their own future. They are actually better off, no longer depending on some other country. This store is so well stocked!
Talk about unintended consequences 😅
Infact there are a lot of furniture manufacturers, but they are very bad at representing their products and preparing instructions for them
@@10klass5доказательства?
They are a very strong and resilient people, as history has shown time and time again.
@@10klass5 Ikea has a lot of money an reputation it's like a monopoly, ppl often goes there on autopilot just because they know that ikea means furniture. So Russian companies could not compete. The are also Hoff a big russian furniture shop with clever management who made it self independent from the West in 2014, so even during corona it made good. But Russia still have to work on small details, more service control, for example you could have 1 stud less or one stud more in complect which don't happen in ikea.
Perfect picture Russell hugs two sharks😂❤
Russia did not waste any time in installing new business in stores where old businesses moved out of the country.
This is good. Russia is prospering and not allowing small things like sanctions to drag the country down.
🤝👍🔥
I agree. Sanctions never work and are, imho, performative. What I mean by that is when a country like the US gives out sanctions, they do so to make it look like they're doing something meaningful. But in reality, sanctions hurt the citizens only and not the government that America targets - i.e. Russia, Iran, North Korea etc.
The chair at 9:18 is only about $25USD cheaper than the original bought in the US, better off buying from a local manufacturer and brand
In my opinion, items at this store are better than IKEA’s ones. The selection looks great as well.

Who needs IKEA .See how seriously good those Lakk Russian furniture's and home decorations were ?
Apparently, it's much more expensive than IKEA.
@@MargaritaMagdalena The quality of the furniture and decorations are much better also .
@@MargaritaMagdalena it's more expensive because it's not wholesale big shop like ikea and because prices are changed everywhere. Even if ikea stayed the prices would be higher as well.
@@leozackdestron1574 I live in Western Europe and even IKEA is too expensive for me 😅 Virtually all the big things in my house are second hand, except for the curtains, small writing desk, small oven and electric cooker with just 2 plates. I'm so poor. 🤪 So I'm really grateful to have IKEA in case I do need something that I can't get second-hand.
@@MargaritaMagdalena i live in Western Europe too. When i moved to small appartment and started new life i did not have any furniture. I had to buy everything. I spent 13,000 euros on things from Ikea to simply decorate my appartement. I needed everything urgently. It is not cheap at all.
Thanks a lot, Russell, for another interesting video! It's good that such shops keep opening. I've never been to the shopping centre you're showing in this video, but I think it's definitely worth visiting. And hopefully, soon there will be a Good Lukk store selling kitchenware and household items!
Thanks for watching and commenting. I actually knew about this mall for a long time. But as this store only recently opened, I decided to make a trip back there. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the kinds words.
It would be cool if the Sanctions resulted in new and better versions of the stores that abandoned Russia
competing against the original stores.
Hopefully over time more stores will open. There are so many local furniture stores in Russia long before IKEA came along.

Hello Russell from little country in Europe - Slovak republic, it is very interesting for me how it's look in Russia because in our MSM is very different information. Thanks a lot.
Thanks for watching. It's the same when you watch the news in Australia, it shows a different side to Russia.
When was the last time you vacationed on the white sand sea? Russians spend a lot of time in Thailand, Vietnam, Dubai, Maldives, Egypt, all 5-star hotels are packed with Russian tourists in Turkey, the Philippines, and Sanya. That's a win - win situation for Russia's economy, its workers and the public in general. Now, the Russian people need to support and buy from those new stores, so Russia continuous to grow and expand its economy. If IKEA ever comes back into the country, the Russian people should NOT patronize them, since they tried in vain to ruined Russia's economy and leave thousands of Russian workers unemployed to fend for themselves.
👍🤝🔥
@@user-nj1zh9kh7t Good for you! The best thing that happened to Russia were all these sanctions, this is going to make Russia stronger, self-sufficient and less reliable on the west. It is also going to expand internal production and create ore Russian brands and companies because they have now realized that the West are not reliable trade partners. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. As far as I see it all these companies that left the Russian market are obedient sheep who were part of a collective effort by the west to destroy Russia. Their intentions were to cause the worst damage possible to the Russian economy and leave thousands of Russian unemployed, their overall aim was to cause Kaos, hardships and discontent among the Russian people so they would revolt against the present government and overthrow Putin (something the West has been dreaming off since he came to power in 2000). As a westerner I hope that if any of those companies ever come into the Russian market again, that most Russians have pride, dignity and self-worth and do not patronize any of them, so they won't have any choice but to shut down and leave the country again. You can't allow people or companies to use you, abuse you and dispose of you at will. Be strong and proud Russia, you are a great power, and, in the end, you'll come out of this victorious!
It's a great opportunity to develop our own companies. I suppose if ikea come back he won't be a monopolist anymore.

An interesting review.
Still, go to the original Ascona furniture and interior items hypermarket at Columbus Mall.

In structure and design, it is similar to Ikea.
This store is worth a review on it.
It is wonderful to see so many people shopping in the stores! I’ve never envisioned Russian markets being full of shoppers because of the sanctions. As Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin said, “Bring on MORE sanctions”!
It's hard to see what they are selling in these malls with all the customers in the way.

In a normal functioning country, the economy uses something called “Economies of Scale” where they view the actual cost versus the “opportunity costs” of goods and services. If you recall your history, even under communism/socialism, it’s not good for a country to be entirely self sufficient as it will only lead to an actual downfall of its society, kinda of like 1991.
Ikea won't be in russia for 50 years. Hi Russell please don't delete this comment.
Brilliant!
Bunnings may have wallpaper but I don't remember seeing any.
Wallpaper is a huge thing here in Russia.
Ordering furniture with assembly online is easy. Does Ikea provide it?
Thanks!
Welcome!
So this is all that is left from Ikea in Russia. Interesting.
"They're" not There.
Sorry about that.
I wish they would open a store in Greece.
It would be pretty cool if they did open in other countries.
IKEA is cheap assemblage furniture and marked up assessories. Most of the products are made in China. Aside from the Swedish meatballs and affordable cafeterias, there isn't much to rave about. So anything would be better
I remember one time I saw a Swedish Winter apparel brand . The knit hat made of %100 wool. I said I got to have it! Sweden must have lots of sheep so it must be good quality. I got the knit hat in the mail I look at the tag and it said Made in China!
*they're back (not "there back", as the thumbnail says).
I was looking for this. It's like fingernails on an old chalkboard. 😖
I've since updated it.
Russell you should show the prices of furniture so we can compare it to Ikea. I used to buy lots of Ikea stuff because it was cheap and acceptable quality, but mostly becuase it was cheap. Now here in California, after 2020 Ikea has jacked up the price so much that Ikea now costs the same as regular furniture from regular stores that you do not have to assemble yourself. I have not bought a single item from Ikea since.
Well, for example, 13:13 here, what is standing on a pink background: a large cabinet is about 11k (~120$), a small one is 7.8k (~86$), a shelf is 1.5k (~16.5$), a table is 16.5k (~181.5$). Further racks from 6k to 16k (66$ to 176$). Idk if it's expensive or not, but it's something like that. Google translate.
Большое спасибо за обзор! Живу в Москве и не знала про эти магазины. Но цены, конечно, печаль
Good Evening Professor! Wall paper is something I haven’t seen since about 1989!
the interesting thing here is the price labels are typeset just like the ones at ikea. curious if they kept the same SKU system too (the white on black background part of the label)
its possible its just using different company name and branding to keep operating in russia because of the sanction, like the mcd russia
It would be great if they could steal new designs from IKEA and introduce them into their manufacturing
Steal ?
@@lauren6889 yes, you've got it right - stealing is a pure russian style. During the soviet era they were stealing technologies and design from the West. From small appliances to cars and heavy machinery. The same as China nowadays. They keep doing this and are very proud of it.

This IKEA episode that you have presented brings to mind a question: How does one obtain unemployment payments after you have been terminated for a store such as IKEA, when they close down and lay off the employees. Also, how long do the unemployment payments go on, and how much support is there to obtain another position, and are there any guarantees to obtain comparable employment in the next position one obtains?
There are three types of dismissal in Russia.
1. at the employee's own request or by agreement of the parties
2. at the request of the employer (in fact, there is a difficult name to translate, but now it is not very important)
3. due to violation of the law or company rules by an employee.
The payouts will vary
1. the money earned but not received by the employee is paid, as well as for all vacation days that the employee earned.
2. the amount equivalent to the employee's salary for 3 months + vacation pay is paid
3. Lots of options. (Much depends on the severity of the offense. If there's constant absenteeism, that's one thing. If stealing or drug addiction in the workplace is something else entirely. However, both must first be proved, otherwise the employee can sue and win the case) For an employee, dismissal "according to the article of the law" is the most terrible thing, since then it will be extremely difficult for him to get a job anywhere. Therefore, as a rule, if the violations are not very severe, the person leaves "of his own free will."
when IKEA left the Russian market, all employees of the company received a 3-month salary + unpaid vacation pay as a severance package
Unemployment benefits are paid by the state within a year after the dismissed employee submits an application.
The amount of payments depends on the previous salary, but cannot exceed the limit set by the state.
I could be wrong. (So I used this option 1 time in my life during a lockdown.), but for the first 6 months 100% of the benefit amount is paid, and then the amount of payments decreases every month.

That's GREAT NEWS! I'm so happy that the Russian people can come up with ways from being hurt with sanctions. The FACTORIES are in Russia, the staff have rhe knowledge and experience to keep the FACTORIES running and they can remain employed.❤👍👏👏👏
