We don't have genetic sequencing for all people throughout all time, as we find more mummies and such we gain better understanding but ancient peoples in Africa would have to deal with the wide range of ecological features that would degrade a corpse (Mummification came from inner Africa btw). My brother had his DNA test and it showed he shared a paternal lineage with Ramses III. I noticed that the men who carried the E-V38 were mostly men of African (black) descent and it seems mostly from African Americans and Caribbean men. I’m not sure why this is a debate when the Egyptians left hieroglyphs and statues which show they are obviously of an African phenotype. When we look at the statues of Ancient Rome and Greece, black people aren’t claiming they are black when you can clearly see they are not. Of course it’s racism. I think Gates is well aware that all the Egyptians were black but he is asking whether there was some form of colourism like what existed in parts of black America especially former French Colonies were “ Mulattos” or light skinned blacks had a higher status than dark skinned blacks. Also the issue of different shades of black and brown in Egypt have been used by white supremacists to claim tow different races. As far as the skin color of Nubians being represented as black, there were also brown skinned Nubians represented. There were Egyptians and Egyptian gods who were painted black as the Nubians. Any black family in the US would be able to identify very light skin to very black skin and every shade in between. They are all the same race, however. There is a group of very black people in the Sudan today, (Old Nubia) and there are those with lighter brown skin. Gates is confusing the issue and seems too affected by American racial distinctions. Black people in general are not "black" in actual color, however a minority are. Would Gates be considered a different race than Wesley Snipes? Don't think so. In a drawing, Gates would be depicted light brown and Snipes black, but still the same race.

If you look at Egyptian iconography they depicted some nubians as having jet black, dark brown and even lighter skin. I would also be lenient in agreeing that they may have had various skin tones just like any race but def had black features as we know it. There was def major cultural differences as moses did anger some jews due to him taking an Ethiopian wife but I think that's mostly due to the fact that Jews have had very strict rules to keep the bloodline separate but on the flip moses wouldn't disobey gods laws so it was within reason for the jews to allow it and not make much of a huge fuss. Jews have been spread across the world so they really don't have a color per se but I strongly believe even Jews had predominantly black features at the start with say Abraham and more lighter features later due to Roman rule. I'm a bit obsessed with this history especially since I found out my father is a direct descendant of Ramsees III. He is a Yoruba Nigerian descendant on his father's side from a man brought to Cuba on a slave ship. Apparently DNA revealed deeper back on that male line was Ramsees III. The haplogroup I found out is E1B1A. Racism is such a malignant culture, thwarting our understanding of humanity's truth. Our Afro Cuban religion is called IFA which is an ancient Youruba religion. The Yoruba origin story states the high priests and others left ancient Egypt, fleeing foreign invaders who didn't understand the spiritual practices and were polluting the religion. Folklore says these Nile Valley people brought their religion to Nigeria. Much of the concepts of the ancient Egyptian religion is present in my own tradition today in Cuba and Nigeria. Every time I hear stuff about Egypt and Israel and the claim they were white, I laugh and feel sad same time. I wanna point out something: language is the blood of any society. Mind y'all, there are numerous languages and the ways they're used to communicate by their users. Having said all of the above, lemme point out that some of the languages (as I know) carry evidence of the fact that Egypt was BLACK. And I want to start with the word PHARAOH itself: it is a corruption of the Ewe (the Hebrew language spoken in Ghana, Togo, Benin and parts of Nigeria. Pharaoh is from the word FIA WO. FIA means KING. WO means THEM. Therefore FIA WO or FIAWO means THE KINGS. The word EWE (the language I'm talking about) itself is a corruption of EWOE or YEWOE, which means HE CREATED IT, which became (got corrupted into) YAHWEH, and became YEHOWAH and finally has become JEHOVAH. The English word GIGANTIC which came from the Greek GIGANTIKOS, came from the Ewe DZI GA TOR WO. DZI means above; GA means BIG; TOR means OWNER or IS or WHO IS LIKE or BEARER or OWNER; WO means THEM. DZIGATORWO means THOSE WHO ARE BIG AND TALL where TALL is DZI or ABOVE. DZIGATORWO referred to the giants who walked the Earth once upon a time. This led me to a place of extensive research about my tribe, which proves your point about the Hebrew origins of the Ewe language. The young King Tut as the Europeans call him in short for the false name Tutankhamen they gave him, was of Akan descent. His real name was Tutu Ankhomah also spelled Ankomah or Ankomah in the Akan tribe of Ghana to this day. Truth be told, we simply don't know 95% of humanity's story. Think of it this way... We believe that our species of humanoid has been around for about 200,000 years. Divide that be 25 (an average generation) and that means there have been 8000 generations of humans. Only in the last 4/5 generations have we gone from horse power to space travel. Who knows how many times there could have been a reset. There could have been several advanced civilisations in the past only for their to be an event that caused a reset. Another issue is the reliability of what we think we know. We can only really be 100% sure for about the past 125 years as that's how long we have had video technology for. Once you go beyond that, you are relaying on the written word and that's not an accurate source at all. Using DNA as the basis for all evidence is fault also. We don't have genetic sequencing for all people throughout all time, as we find more mummies and such we gain better understanding but ancient peoples in Africa would have to deal with the wide range of ecological features that would degrade a corpse (Mummification came from inner Africa btw). Language, religion, food, tradition, music etc also connect a people.
Native Americans are a good example. If they didn't have bodies in the ground (American climate is better at preserving) and white folks wanted to lay claim to their heritage all they would have to do I pay $5 and sign up. My brother had his DNA test and it showed he shared a paternal lineage with Ramses III. I noticed that the men who carried the E-V38 were mostly men of African (black) descent and it seems mostly from African Americans and Caribbean men. I’m not sure why this is a debate when the Egyptians left hieroglyphs and statues which show they are obviously of an African phenotype.

Henry Louis Gates is sadly missing the point. The point isn't the specific coloration the AE used in their art for various African ethnic groups in the Nile Valley. The point is the hypocrisy of Europeans to claim that African populations in America with any amount of "black" blood are black people, while claiming that full blooded Africans in Africa are somehow not black. This is all about the power to define terms in ways that are useful for imperialists and racists and has nothing to do with observable facts on the ground. Morton was making up all sorts of pseudoscience to basically claim African skeletons as somehow European in origin.
But instead of starting with that, as he should, he actually claims that the coal black paintings of some Nile Valley Africans means that this is the only kind of "true black" African in the Nile Valley. If that is true, then that means Henry Louis Gates and his very light brown skin isn't black then. I mean this is the kind of discussion you would expect at a cocktail party with no facts and reference versus a serious scholarly discussion. Most of the portraits that the people of KMT left of themselves and the other populations of the Nile Valley are all MUCH DARKER than Henry Louis Gates. Not to mention that among all Africans, Sudanese are some of the darkest Africans on the continent. But of course that would only come up if this was a serious scholarly discussion.

I think Gates is well aware that all the Egyptians were black but he is asking whether there was some form of colourism like what existed in parts of black America especially former French Colonies were “ Mulattos” or light skinned blacks had a higher status than dark skinned blacks. Also the issue of different shades of black and brown in Egypt have been used by white supremacists to claim tow different races. My theory is that this is the “ elephant in the room” and Gates wanted it tackled.

As far as the skin color of Nubians being represented as black, there were also brown skinned Nubians represented. There were Egyptians and Egyptian gods who were painted black as the Nubians. Any black family in the US would be able to identify very light skin to very black skin and every shade in between. They are all the same race, however. There is a group of very black people in the Sudan today, (Old Nubia) and there are those with lighter brown skin. Gates is confusing the issue and seems too affected by American racial distinctions. Black people in general are not "black" in actual color, however a minority are. Would Gates be considered a different race than Wesley Snipes? Don't think so. In a drawing, Gates would be depicted light brown and Snipes black, but still the same race.

If you look at Egyptian iconography they depicted some nubians as having jet black, dark brown and even lighter skin. I would also be lenient in agreeing that they may have had various skin tones just like any race but def had black features as we know it. There was def major cultural differences as moses did anger some jews due to him taking an Ethiopian wife but I think that's mostly due to the fact that Jews have had very strict rules to keep the bloodline separate but on the flip moses wouldn't disobey gods laws so it was within reason for the jews to allow it and not make much of a huge fuss. Jews have been spread across the world so they really don't have a color per se but I strongly believe even Jews had predominantly black features at the start with say Abraham and more lighter features later due to Roman rule. We use Egyptian names and words in our languages especially in South Africa, from maati to Ra and Rre etc. Many royal families in South Africa know our actual history before slavery and colonization. Queen Modjadji is testament to this. Anta Diop a physicist and Egyptologist wrote extensively about this anti Blackness and anti Women tendencies projected unto an African civilization in Africa. Same as the love for whiteness from those of mixed races. Skin complexion and being black seems to have never been an issue during apartheid etc, blacks dont have the same complexion all over Africa hell even in one neighborhood theres different complexions. i am egyptian. Im living in egypt and as far as i know and my people know, we knew our ancestors were dark. The fact that others care more about it than us and are just finding it out is absurd.Whats more absurd is when people start claiming egyptian origins simply for being "black". The ancient egyptians never died and just disappeared in thin air. They admixed with western asian cultures way before pre islamic times. Its wrong for "black" people to start claiming egyptian origins simply because they are black. A sudani cannot claim somalian origins same way a person from cameroon cannot claim ethiopian origins.

Every time I hear stuff about Egypt and Israel and the claim they were white, I laugh and feel sad same time.
I wanna point out something: language is the blood of any society. Mind y'all, there are numerous languages and the ways they're used to communicate by their users. And just as what mankind has come to know as blood serves many purposes and carries many vital and essential possessions, from the physical, metaphysical, spiritual and numerous other dimensions known and hitherto unknown to man, so does language.
The past is not never lost. The past is borne and persists in numerous containers hitherto known and unknown to man, and one of those containers is language.
Having said all of the above, lemme point out that some of the languages (as I know) carry evidence of the fact that Egypt was BLACK. And I want to start with the word PHARAOH itself: it is a corruption of the Ewe (the Hebrew language spoken in Ghana, Togo, Benin and parts of Nigeria. Pharaoh is from the word FIA WO. FIA means KING. WO means THEM. Therefore FIA WO or FIAWO means THE KINGS.
The word EWE (the language I'm talking about) itself is a corruption of EWOE or YEWOE, which means HE CREATED IT, which became (got corrupted into) YAHWEH, and became YEHOWAH and finally has become JEHOVAH.
The English word GIGANTIC which came from the Greek GIGANTIKOS, came from the Ewe DZI GA TOR WO. DZI means above; GA means BIG; TOR means OWNER or IS or WHO IS LIKE or BEARER or OWNER; WO means THEM. DZIGATORWO means THOSE WHO ARE BIG AND TALL where TALL is DZI or ABOVE.
DZIGATORWO referred to the giants who walked the Earth once upon a time.
The word JUJU/VOODOO/HOODOO all comes from the Ewe word VODU, which is an idol being a deity or a god.

The young King Tut as the Europeans call him in short for the false name Tutankhamen they gave him, was of Akan descent.
His real name was Tutu Ankhomah also spelled Ankomah or Ankomah in the Akan tribe of Ghana to this day.
His elongated head also remains an Akan royal trait reserved for people born into their nobility and royal families.
The title Tutu also remains an Asante royal title as well as a family name.
There are so many credible forensically identifiable, as well as numerous cultural evidence that ties Ancient Egypt anthropologically to Afrika, but the so called White man refuses to accept truths which minimizes his claim of supremacy.

Truth be told, we simply don't know 95% of humanity's story. Think of it this way...
We believe that our species of humanoid has been around for about 200,000 years. Divide that be 25 (an average generation) and that means there have been 8000 generations of humans. Only in the last 4/5 generations have we gone from horse power to space travel. Who knows how many times there could have been a reset. There could have been several advanced civilisations in the past only for their to be an event that caused a reset.
Another issue is the reliability of what we think we know. We can only really be 100% sure for about the past 125 years as that's how long we have had video technology for. Once you go beyond that, you are relaying on the written word and that's not an accurate source at all. We simply have no idea but to admit this would be to admit we have no idea of where we are going and this is why the establishment paints a picture of our history and will not tolerate anything outside of it. To admit we don't know where we came from and where we are going would be to lose their ability to control our direction in the way that they want.
The point here is that we just don't know
The problem is pretending that we do know is not only satisfying but empowering and I mean that in the worst way possible
